1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for vs in the flesh, arme your selues likewise with the same minde, which is, that he which hath suffered in the flesh, hath ceased from sinne,
1 Portanto, uma vez que Cristo sofreu corporalmente, armem-se também do mesmo pensamento, pois aquele que sofreu em seu corpo rompeu com o pecado,
2 That he hence forward should liue (as much time as remaineth in the flesh) not after the lusts of men, but after the will of God.
2 para que, no tempo que lhe resta, não viva mais para satisfazer os maus desejos humanos, mas sim para fazer a vontade de Deus.
3 For it is sufficient for vs that we haue spet the time past of ye life, after the lust of the Gentiles, walking in wantonnes, lustes, drunkennes, in gluttonie, drinkings, and in abominable idolatries.
3 No passado vocês já gastaram tempo suficiente fazendo o que agrada aos pagãos. Naquele tempo vocês viviam em libertinagem, na sensualidade, nas bebedeiras, orgias e farras, e na idolatria repugnante.
4 Wherein it seemeth to them strange, that yee runne not with them vnto the same excesse of riot: therefore speake they euill of you,
4 Eles acham estranho que vocês não se lancem com eles na mesma torrente de imoralidade, e por isso os insultam.
5 Which shall giue accounts to him, that is readie to iudge quicke and dead.
5 Contudo, eles terão que prestar contas àquele que está pronto para julgar os vivos e os mortos.
6 For vnto this purpose was the Gospell preached also vnto the dead, that they might bee condemned, according to men in the flesh, but might liue according to God in the spirit.
6 Por isso mesmo o evangelho foi pregado também a mortos, para que eles, mesmo julgados no corpo segundo os homens, vivam pelo Espírito segundo Deus.
7 Now the ende of all things is at hand. Be ye therefore sober, and watching in prayer.
7 O fim de todas as coisas está próximo. Portanto, sejam criteriosos e sóbrios; dediquem-se à oração.
8 But aboue all thinges haue feruent loue among you: for loue shall couer the multitude of sinnes.
8 Sobretudo, amem-se sinceramente uns aos outros, porque o amor perdoa muitíssimos pecados.
9 Be ye harberous one to another, without grudging.
9 Sejam mutuamente hospitaleiros, sem reclamação.
10 Let euery man as hee hath receiued the gift, minister the same one to another, as good disposers of the manifolde grace of God.
10 Cada um exerça o dom que recebeu para servir aos outros, administrando fielmente a graça de Deus em suas múltiplas formas.
11 If any man speake, let him speake as the wordes of God. If any man minister, let him do it as of the abilitie which God ministreth, that God in al things may be glorified through Iesus Christ, to whome is prayse and dominion for euer, and euer, Amen.
11 Se alguém fala, faça-o como quem transmite a palavra de Deus. Se alguém serve, faça-o com a força que Deus provê, de forma que em todas as coisas Deus seja glorificado mediante Jesus Cristo, a quem sejam a glória e o poder para todo o sempre. Amém.
12 Dearely beloued, thinke it not strange concerning the firie triall, which is among you to proue you, as though some strange thing were come vnto you:
12 Amados, não se surpreendam com o fogo que surge entre vocês para os provar, como se algo estranho lhes estivesse acontecendo.
13 But reioyce, in asmuch as ye are partakers of Christs suffrings, that when his glory shall appeare, ye may be glad and reioyce.
13 Mas alegrem-se à medida que participam dos sofrimentos de Cristo, para que também, quando a sua glória for revelada, vocês exultem com grande alegria.
14 If yee be railed vpon for the Name of Christ, blessed are ye: for the spirit of glory, and of God resteth vpon you: which on their part is euill spoken of: but on your part is glorified.
14 Se vocês são insultados por causa do nome de Cristo, felizes são vocês, pois o Espírito da glória, o Espírito de Deus, repousa sobre vocês.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murtherer, or as a thiefe, or an euil doer, or as a busibodie in other mens matters.
15 Se algum de vocês sofre, que não seja como assassino, ladrão, criminoso ou como quem se intromete em negócios alheios.
16 But if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not bee ashamed: but let him glorifie God in this behalfe.
16 Contudo, se sofre como cristão, não se envergonhe, mas glorifique a Deus por meio desse nome.
17 For the time is come, that iudgement must beginne at the house of God. If it first beginne at vs, what shall the ende be of them which obey not the Gospel of God?
17 Pois chegou a hora de começar o julgamento pela casa de Deus; e, se começa primeiro conosco, qual será o fim daqueles que não obedecem ao evangelho de Deus?
18 And if the righteous scarcely bee saued, where shall the vngodly and the sinner appeare?
18 E, "se ao justo é difícil ser salvo, que será do ímpio e pecador? "
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God, commit their soules to him in well doing, as vnto a faithfull Creator.
19 Por isso mesmo, aqueles que sofrem de acordo com a vontade de Deus devem confiar suas vidas ao seu fiel Criador e praticar o bem.
