1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for vs in the flesh, arme your selues likewise with the same minde, which is, that he which hath suffered in the flesh, hath ceased from sinne,
1 Ora, tendo Cristo sofrido na carne, estejam também vocês armados do mesmo pensamento. Pois aquele que sofreu na carne rompeu com o pecado,
2 That he hence forward should liue (as much time as remaineth in the flesh) not after the lusts of men, but after the will of God.
2 para que, no tempo que lhes resta na carne, vocês não vivam mais de acordo com as paixões humanas, mas segundo a vontade de Deus.
3 For it is sufficient for vs that we haue spet the time past of ye life, after the lust of the Gentiles, walking in wantonnes, lustes, drunkennes, in gluttonie, drinkings, and in abominable idolatries.
3 Porque basta que, no passado, vocês tenham feito a vontade dos gentios, tendo andado em práticas libertinas, desejos carnais, bebedeiras, orgias, embriaguez e em detestáveis idolatrias.
4 Wherein it seemeth to them strange, that yee runne not with them vnto the same excesse of riot: therefore speake they euill of you,
4 Por isso, falando mal de vocês, estranham que vocês não se juntam com eles no mesmo excesso de devassidão,
5 Which shall giue accounts to him, that is readie to iudge quicke and dead.
5 eles que terão de prestar contas àquele que é competente para julgar vivos e mortos.
6 For vnto this purpose was the Gospell preached also vnto the dead, that they might bee condemned, according to men in the flesh, but might liue according to God in the spirit.
6 Pois, para este fim, o evangelho foi pregado também a mortos, para que, mesmo julgados na carne segundo os homens, vivam em espírito segundo Deus.
7 Now the ende of all things is at hand. Be ye therefore sober, and watching in prayer.
7 O fim de todas as coisas está próximo; portanto, sejam criteriosos e sóbrios para poderem orar.
8 But aboue all thinges haue feruent loue among you: for loue shall couer the multitude of sinnes.
8 Acima de tudo, porém, tenham muito amor uns para com os outros, porque o amor cobre a multidão de pecados.
9 Be ye harberous one to another, without grudging.
9 Sejam mutuamente hospitaleiros, sem murmuração.
10 Let euery man as hee hath receiued the gift, minister the same one to another, as good disposers of the manifolde grace of God.
10 Sirvam uns aos outros, cada um conforme o dom que recebeu, como encarregados de administrar bem a multiforme graça de Deus.
11 If any man speake, let him speake as the wordes of God. If any man minister, let him do it as of the abilitie which God ministreth, that God in al things may be glorified through Iesus Christ, to whome is prayse and dominion for euer, and euer, Amen.
11 Se alguém fala, fale de acordo com os oráculos de Deus; se alguém serve, faça-o na força que Deus lhe dá, para que, em todas as coisas, Deus seja glorificado, por meio de Jesus Cristo, a quem pertence a glória e o domínio para todo o sempre. Amém!
12 Dearely beloued, thinke it not strange concerning the firie triall, which is among you to proue you, as though some strange thing were come vnto you:
12 Amados, não estranhem o fogo que surge no meio de vocês, destinado a pô-los à prova, como se alguma coisa extraordinária estivesse acontecendo.
13 But reioyce, in asmuch as ye are partakers of Christs suffrings, that when his glory shall appeare, ye may be glad and reioyce.
13 Pelo contrário, alegrem-se na medida em que são coparticipantes dos sofrimentos de Cristo, para que também, na revelação de sua glória, vocês se alegrem, exultando.
14 If yee be railed vpon for the Name of Christ, blessed are ye: for the spirit of glory, and of God resteth vpon you: which on their part is euill spoken of: but on your part is glorified.
14 Se são insultados por causa do nome de Cristo, vocês são bem-aventurados, porque o Espírito da glória, que é o Espírito de Deus, repousa sobre vocês.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murtherer, or as a thiefe, or an euil doer, or as a busibodie in other mens matters.
15 Que nenhum de vocês sofra como assassino, ou ladrão, ou malfeitor, ou como quem se mete na vida dos outros.
16 But if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not bee ashamed: but let him glorifie God in this behalfe.
16 Mas, se sofrer como cristão, não se envergonhe; pelo contrário, glorifique a Deus por causa disso.
17 For the time is come, that iudgement must beginne at the house of God. If it first beginne at vs, what shall the ende be of them which obey not the Gospel of God?
17 Porque chegou o tempo de começar o juízo pela casa de Deus; e, se começa por nós, qual será o fim daqueles que não obedecem ao evangelho de Deus?
18 And if the righteous scarcely bee saued, where shall the vngodly and the sinner appeare?
18 E, “se é com dificuldade que o justo é salvo, que será do ímpio e do pecador?”
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God, commit their soules to him in well doing, as vnto a faithfull Creator.
19 Por isso, também os que sofrem segundo a vontade de Deus entreguem a sua alma ao fiel Criador, na prática do bem.
