1 Wherefore, laying aside all maliciousnes, and all guile, and dissimulation, and enuie, and all euill speaking,
1 Livrem-se, pois, de toda maldade e de todo engano, hipocrisia, inveja e toda espécie de maledicência.
2 As newe borne babes desire that sincere milke of the woorde, that yee may growe thereby,
2 Como crianças recém-nascidas, desejem de coração o leite espiritual puro, para que por meio dele cresçam para a salvação,
3 Because yee haue tasted that the Lord is bountifull.
3 agora que provaram que o Senhor é bom.
4 To whome comming as vnto a liuing stone disallowed of men, but chosen of God and precious,
4 À medida que se aproximam dele, a pedra viva — rejeitada pelos homens, mas escolhida por Deus e preciosa para ele —
5 Yee also as liuely stones, bee made a spirituall house, an holy Priesthoode to offer vp spirituall sacrifices acceptable to God by Iesus Christ.
5 vocês também estão sendo utilizados como pedras vivas na edificação de uma casa espiritual para serem sacerdócio santo, oferecendo sacrifícios espirituais aceitáveis a Deus, por meio de Jesus Cristo.
6 Wherefore also it is conteyned in the Scripture, Beholde, I put in Sion a chiefe corner stone, elect and precious: and hee that beleeueth therein, shall not be ashamed.
6 Pois assim é dito na Escritura: "Eis que ponho em Sião uma pedra angular, escolhida e preciosa, e aquele que nela confia jamais será envergonhado".
7 Vnto you therefore which beleeue, it is precious: but vnto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
7 Portanto, para vocês, os que crêem, esta pedra é preciosa; mas para os que não crêem, "a pedra que os construtores rejeitaram tornou-se a pedra angular",
8 And a stone to stumble at, and a rocke of offence, euen to them which stumble at the woorde, being disobedient, vnto the which thing they were euen ordeined.
8 e, "pedra de tropeço e rocha que faz cair". Os que não crêem tropeçam, porque desobedecem à mensagem; para o que também foram destinados.
9 But yee are a chosen generation, a royall Priesthoode, an holy nation, a people set at libertie, that yee shoulde shewe foorth the vertues of him that hath called you out of darkenesse into his marueilous light,
9 Vocês, porém, são geração eleita, sacerdócio real, nação santa, povo exclusivo de Deus, para anunciar as grandezas daquele que os chamou das trevas para a sua maravilhosa luz.
10 Which in time past were not a people, yet are nowe the people of God: which in time past were not vnder mercie, but nowe haue obteined mercie.
10 Antes vocês nem sequer eram povo, mas agora são povo de Deus; não haviam recebido misericórdia, mas agora a receberam.
11 Dearely beloued, I beseeche you, as strangers and pilgrims, abstaine from fleshly lusts, which fight against the soule,
11 Amados, insisto em que, como estrangeiros e peregrinos no mundo, vocês se abstenham dos desejos carnais que guerreiam contra a alma.
12 And haue your conuersation honest among the Gentiles, that they which speake euill of you as of euill doers, may by your good woorkes which they shall see, glorifie God in the day of visitation.
12 Vivam entre os pagãos de maneira exemplar para que, naquilo em que eles os acusam de praticarem o mal, observem as boas obras que vocês praticam e glorifiquem a Deus no dia da sua intervenção.
13 Therefore submit your selues vnto all maner ordinance of man for the Lordes sake, whether it be vnto the King, as vnto the superiour,
13 Por causa do Senhor, sujeitem-se a toda autoridade constituída entre os homens; seja ao rei, como autoridade suprema,
14 Or vnto gouernours, as vnto them that are sent of him, for the punishment of euill doers, and for the praise of them that doe well.
14 seja aos governantes, como por ele enviados para punir os que praticam o mal e honrar os que praticam o bem.
15 For so is the will of God, that by well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of the foolish men,
15 Pois é da vontade de Deus que, praticando o bem, vocês silenciem a ignorância dos insensatos.
16 As free, and not as hauing the libertie for a cloke of maliciousnesse, but as the seruauntes of God.
16 Vivam como pessoas livres, mas não usem a liberdade como desculpa para fazer o mal; vivam como servos de Deus.
17 Honour all men: loue brotherly fellowship: feare God: honour the King.
17 Tratem a todos com o devido respeito: amem os irmãos, temam a Deus e honrem o rei.
18 Seruaunts, be subiect to your masters with all feare, not onely to the good and courteous, but also to the froward.
18 Escravos, sujeitem-se a seus senhores com todo o respeito, não apenas aos bons e amáveis, mas também aos maus.
19 For this is thanke worthie, if a man for conscience toward God endure griefe, suffering wrongfully.
19 Porque é louvável que, por motivo de sua consciência para com Deus, alguém suporte aflições sofrendo injustamente.
20 For what praise is it, if when ye be buffeted for your faultes, yee take it paciently? but and if when ye doe well, ye suffer wrong and take it paciently, this is acceptable to God.
20 Pois que vantagem há em suportar açoites recebidos por terem cometido o mal? Mas se vocês suportam o sofrimento por terem feito o bem, isso é louvável diante de Deus.
21 For hereunto ye are called: for Christ also suffred for you, leauing you an ensample that ye should follow his steppes.
21 Para isso vocês foram chamados, pois também Cristo sofreu no lugar de vocês, deixando-lhes exemplo, para que sigam os seus passos.
22 Who did no sinne, neither was there guile found in his mouth.
22 "Ele não cometeu pecado algum, e nenhum engano foi encontrado em sua boca".
23 Who when hee was reuiled, reuiled not againe: when hee suffered, hee threatned not, but comitted it to him that iudgeth righteously.
23 Quando insultado, não revidava; quando sofria, não fazia ameaças, mas entregava-se àquele que julga com justiça.
24 Who his owne selfe bare our sinnes in his body on the tree, that we being dead to sinne, should liue in righteousnesse: by whose stripes ye were healed.
24 Ele mesmo levou em seu corpo os nossos pecados sobre o madeiro, a fim de que morrêssemos para os pecados e vivêssemos para a justiça; por suas feridas vocês foram curados.
25 For ye were as sheepe going astray: but are nowe returned vnto the shepheard and Bishop of your soules.
25 Pois vocês eram como ovelhas desgarradas, mas agora se converteram ao Pastor e Bispo de suas almas.
