1 What then say we of Abraham, the chief of the fathers, that he found in the flesh?
1 Portanto, que diremos do nosso antepassado Abraão?
2 For if Abraham by works was justified, he had cause for boasting; but not with Aloha.
2 Se de fato Abraão foi justificado pelas obras, ele tem do que se gloriar, mas não diante de Deus.
3 For what saith the scripture? That Abraham believed Aloha, and he reckoned it to him for righteousness.
3 Que diz a Escritura? "Abraão creu em Deus, e isso lhe foi creditado como justiça".
4 But to him who worketh, his wages are not reckoned to him as of favour, but as that which is owing to him:
4 Ora, o salário do homem que trabalha não é considerado como favor, mas como dívida.
5 but to him who worketh not, but believeth only in him who justifieth sinners, his faith is reckoned to him for righteousness.
5 Todavia, àquele que não trabalha, mas confia em Deus que justifica o ímpio, sua fé lhe é creditada como justiça.
6 As also David hath spoken concerning the blessedness of the man to whom Aloha reckoneth righteousness without works, saying,
6 Davi diz a mesma coisa, quando fala da felicidade do homem a quem Deus credita justiça independente de obras:
7 Blessed are they whose iniquity is forgiven, And whose sins are covered.
7 "Como são felizes aqueles que têm suas transgressões perdoadas, cujos pecados são apagados.
8 Blessed is the man to whom Aloha reckoneth not his sin.
8 Como é feliz aquele a quem o Senhor não atribui culpa".
9 Is this blessedness, then, upon the circumcision (only), or upon the uncircumcision (also)? Now we have said, that his faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.
9 Destina-se esta felicidade apenas aos circuncisos ou também aos incircuncisos? Já dissemos que, no caso de Abraão, a fé lhe foi creditada como justiça.
10 When, then, was it reckoned to him? In circumcision or in uncircumcision? It was not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
10 Sob quais circunstâncias? Antes ou depois de ter sido circuncidado? Não foi depois, mas antes!
11 For he received the sign of circumcision (as) a seal of the righteousness of his faith, which (was his) in uncircumcision, that he should be the father of all them who believe of the uncircumcision; that it might be accounted also to them for righteousness:
11 Assim ele recebeu a circuncisão como sinal, como selo da justiça que ele tinha pela fé, quando ainda não fora circuncidado. Portanto, ele é o pai de todos os que crêem, sem terem sido circuncidados, a fim de que a justiça fosse creditada também a eles;
12 and the father of the circumcision, not of them who are of the circumcision only, but of them who pursue the footsteps of the faith of uncircumcision of our father Abraham.
12 e é igualmente o pai dos circuncisos que não somente são circuncisos, mas também andam nos passos da fé que teve nosso pai Abraão antes de passar pela circuncisão.
13 FOR not through the law was the promise unto Abraham and to his seed that he should be the heir of the world, but through the righteousness of faith.
13 Não foi mediante a lei que Abraão e a sua descendência receberam a promessa de que ele seria o herdeiro do mundo, mas mediante a justiça que vem da fé.
14 For if they who are of the law were heirs, faith would be vain, and the promise be abolished.
14 Pois se os que vivem pela lei são herdeiros, a fé não tem valor, e a promessa é inútil;
15 For the law is the worker of wrath. For where there is no law, there also is no transgression of the law.
15 porque a lei produz a ira. E onde não há lei, não há transgressão.
16 Therefore it is by faith, which is through grace, that we are justified, that the promise might be firm unto all his seed; not to that which is of the law only, but also to that which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all:
16 Portanto, a promessa vem pela fé, para que seja de acordo com a graça e seja assim garantida a toda a descendência de Abraão; não apenas aos que estão sob o regime da lei, mas também aos que têm a fé que Abraão teve. Ele é o pai de todos nós.
17 (as it is written, I have ordained thee the father of many nations before Aloha, in whom thou hast believed, who maketh alive the dead, and calleth those who are not as though they were:)
17 Como está escrito: "Eu o constituí pai de muitas nações". Ele é nosso pai aos olhos de Deus, em quem creu, o Deus que dá vida aos mortos e chama à existência coisas que não existem, como se existissem.
18 and who, without hope, unto hope believed that he should be the father of many nations, as it is written, that " so shall be thy seed."
18 Abraão, contra toda esperança, em esperança creu, tornando-se assim pai de muitas nações, como foi dito a seu respeito: "Assim será a sua descendência".
19 Nor was he weak in his faith, while considering his body dead, (for he was the son of an hundred years,) and the dead womb of Sara;
19 Sem se enfraquecer na fé, reconheceu que o seu corpo já estava sem vitalidade, pois já contava cerca de cem anos de idade, e que também o ventre de Sara já estava sem vitalidade.
20 and at the promise of Aloha he wavered not as deficient in faith, but was strong in faith, and gave glory to Aloha;
20 Mesmo assim não duvidou nem foi incrédulo em relação à promessa de Deus, mas foi fortalecido em sua fé e deu glória a Deus,
21 and was sure that what he had promised to him Aloha could fulfil.
21 estando plenamente convencido de que ele era poderoso para cumprir o que havia prometido.
22 Wherefore it was reckoned to him for righteousness.
22 Em conseqüência, "isso lhe foi também creditado como justiça".
23 And not for his sake only was this written, that his faith was reckoned for righteousness,
23 As palavras "lhe foi creditado" não foram escritas apenas para ele,
24 but for our sake, because it should be reckoned to us also who believe in Him who hath raised our Lord Jeshu Meshiha from among the dead;
24 mas também para nós, a quem Deus creditará justiça, para nós, que cremos naquele que ressuscitou dos mortos a Jesus, nosso Senhor.
25 who was delivered for our sins, and rose that he might justify us.
25 Ele foi entregue à morte por nossos pecados e ressuscitado para nossa justificação.
