1 BUT I Paulos beseech of you by the peacefulness and humility of the Meshiha, (I) who also in presence am humble with you, but while far off am confident over you,
1 Eu, Paulo, vos exorto pela mansidão e bondade de Cristo, eu que me mostro humilde quando estou entre vós, mas, quando longe, sou ousado convosco.
2 beseech of you, that when I come I may not be constrained with the confidence I have to be bold, as I think, over those men who imagine that we walk in the flesh.
2 Peço-vos que, quando eu estiver presente, não me veja obrigado a usar de minha autoridade de que pretendo realmente usar com certas pessoas que imaginam que nós procedemos com intenções humanas.
3 For if we walk in the flesh, yet we war not according to the flesh.
3 Porque, ainda que vivamos na carne, não militamos segundo a carne.
4 For the armour of our warfare is not of the flesh, but of the power of Aloha; and by it we cast down the strong-holds of rebels,
4 Não são carnais as armas com que lutamos. São poderosas, em Deus, capazes de arrasar fortificações.
5 and demolish reasonings and every lofty thing that is exalted against the knowledge of Aloha, and captivate all thoughts unto the obedience of the Meshiha.
5 Nós aniquilamos todo raciocínio e todo orgulho que se levanta contra o conhecimento de Deus, e cativamos todo pensamento e o reduzimos à obediência a Cristo.
6 And we are prepared to execute the punishment of those who obey not, when your obedience shall be fulfilled.
6 Estamos prontos também para castigar todos os desobedientes, assim que for perfeita a vossa obediência.
7 Do we regard persons? If any man confide in himself that he is of the Meshiha, let this one know of himself, that as he is of the Meshiha, so also are we.
7 Julgais as coisas pela aparência!... Quem se gloria de pertencer a Cristo considere que, como ele é de Cristo, assim também nós o somos.
8 For if I should boast somewhat more of the authority which our Lord hath given me, I should not blush; because for your edification he gave it to me, and not for your destruction.
8 Ainda que eu me orgulhasse um pouco em demasia da autoridade que o Senhor nos deu, para vossa edificação e não para vossa ruína, não teria de que envergonhar-me.
9 But I insist not, that I may not be considered as one who would terrify you by my epistles.
9 Não quero, porém, dar a impressão de querer aterrar-vos com minhas cartas.
10 For there are men who say, His epistles are weighty and forcible; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.
10 Suas cartas, dizem, são imperativas e fortes, mas, quando está presente, a sua pessoa é fraca e a palavra desprezível.
11 But he who after this manner speaks, shall conclude that what we are by the word of our epistle when absent, so are we in the deed when we are present.
11 Quem assim pensa, fique sabendo que quais somos por escrito nas cartas, quando estamos ausentes, tais seremos também de fato, quando estivermos presentes.
12 For we dare not value or compare ourselves with those who glorify themselves; but because they compare themselves with themselves, they do not understand.
12 Em verdade, não ousamos equiparar-nos nem comparar-nos com alguns que se preconizam a si próprios. Medindo-se eles conforme a sua própria medida e comparando-se consigo mesmos, dão provas de pouco bom senso.
13 For we do not boast beyond our measure, but in the measure of the boundary which Aloha hath apportioned to us, that we might come also unto you.
13 Nós outros não nos gloriaremos além da medida, mas permaneceremos dentro do campo de ação que Deus nos determinou, levando-nos até vós.
14 For it is not as not reaching to you we extend ourselves; for unto you we come with the gospel of the Meshiha.
14 Não passamos além dos limites. Estaríamos passando, caso não houvéssemos chegado até vós. Ora, realmente temos chegado até vós, pregando o Evangelho de Cristo.
15 Neither boast we beyond our measure in the labour of others; but we have hope, that with the increase of your faith, we shall be enlarged according to our measure;
15 Não nos ufanamos além da medida, cobrindo-nos de trabalhos alheios. Esperamos que, com o progresso de vossa fé, nossa obra cresça entre vós dentro do quadro de ação que nos foi determinado.
16 and be progressive also beyond you to evangelize. Not as within the measure of others in the things that are prepared will we glory.
16 Assim esperamos levar o Evangelho aos países que ficam além de vós, sem nos gloriarmos das obras realizadas por outros dentro do domínio reservado a eles.
17 But let him who glorieth glory in the Lord.
17 Ora, quem se gloria, glorie-se no Senhor.
18 For it is not he who glorifieth himself who is approved, but he who is glorified of the Lord.
18 Pois merece a aprovação não aquele que se recomenda a si mesmo, mas aquele que o Senhor recomenda.
