1 Most dear brethren, do not ye believe to each spirit, but prove ye the spirits, if they be of God, (or Most dear \+em brothers\+em*, do not believe every spirit, but rather, test the spirits, to see if they be from God); for many false prophets went out into the world.
1 Amados, não deis crédito a qualquer espírito; antes, provai os espíritos se procedem de Deus, porque muitos falsos profetas têm saído pelo mundo fora.
2 In this thing the Spirit of God is known; each spirit that acknowledgeth that Jesus Christ hath come in (the) flesh, is of God; (The Spirit of God is known by this; every spirit that acknowledgeth that Jesus Christ hath come in the flesh, is from God;)
2 Nisto reconheceis o Espírito de Deus: todo espírito que confessa que Jesus Cristo veio em carne é de Deus;
3 and each spirit that undoeth Jesus, is not of God. And this is (of the) antichrist, of whom ye have heard, that he cometh; and right now he is in the world. (and every spirit that will not acknowledge Jesus, is not from God. Rather they be from the Anti-Messiah, or the False Messiah, or the Enemy of the Messiah, of whom ye have heard, that he cometh; and right now he is in the world.)
3 e todo espírito que não confessa a Jesus não procede de Deus; pelo contrário, este é o espírito do anticristo, a respeito do qual tendes ouvido que vem e, presentemente, já está no mundo.
4 Ye, little sons, be of God, and ye have overcome him; for he that is in you is more, than he that is in the world, (or for he who is in you is greater, than he who \+em is\+em* in the world).
4 Filhinhos, vós sois de Deus e tendes vencido os falsos profetas, porque maior é aquele que está em vós do que aquele que está no mundo.
5 They be of the world, therefore they speak of the world, (or and so they speak about the world), and the world heareth them.
5 Eles procedem do mundo; por essa razão, falam da parte do mundo, e o mundo os ouve.
6 We be of God; he that knoweth God, heareth us; he that is not of God, heareth not us. In this thing we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
6 Nós somos de Deus; aquele que conhece a Deus nos ouve; aquele que não é da parte de Deus não nos ouve. Nisto reconhecemos o espírito da verdade e o espírito do erro.
7 Most dear brethren, love we together, for charity is of God; and each that loveth his brother, is born of God, and knoweth God. (Most dear \+em brothers\+em*, love one another, for love is from God; and each one who loveth his brother, is born of God, or is a child of God, and knoweth God.)
7 Amados, amemo-nos uns aos outros, porque o amor procede de Deus; e todo aquele que ama é nascido de Deus e conhece a Deus.
8 He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is charity (or for God is love).
8 Aquele que não ama não conhece a Deus, pois Deus é amor.
9 In this thing, the charity of God appeared in us, (or In this, the love of God appeared to us), for God sent his one begotten Son into the world, (so) that we live by him.
9 Nisto se manifestou o amor de Deus em nós: em haver Deus enviado o seu Filho unigênito ao mundo, para vivermos por meio dele.
10 In this thing is charity, not as we had loved God, but for he first loved us, (or And this is love, not because we had loved God, but because he first loved us), and sent his Son (as the) forgiveness [or \+sls (as the)\+sls* helping] for our sins.
10 Nisto consiste o amor: não em que nós tenhamos amado a Deus, mas em que ele nos amou e enviou o seu Filho como propiciação pelos nossos pecados.
11 Ye most dear brethren, if God loved us, we owe to love each other. (Ye most dear \+em brothers\+em*, if God loved us, we ought to love one another.)
11 Amados, se Deus de tal maneira nos amou, devemos nós também amar uns aos outros.
12 No man saw ever God; if we love together, God dwelleth in us, and the charity of him is perfect in us. (No one ever saw God; but if we love one another, God remaineth in us, and his love is perfect, or complete, in us.)
12 Ninguém jamais viu a Deus; se amarmos uns aos outros, Deus permanece em nós, e o seu amor é, em nós, aperfeiçoado.
13 In this thing we know, that we dwell in him, and he in us; for of his Spirit he gave to us (or for he gave his Spirit to us).
13 Nisto conhecemos que permanecemos nele, e ele, em nós: em que nos deu do seu Espírito.
14 And we saw, and witness (or testify), that the Father sent his Son (as the) Saviour of the world.
14 E nós temos visto e testemunhamos que o Pai enviou o seu Filho como Salvador do mundo.
15 Whoever acknowledgeth, that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
15 Aquele que confessar que Jesus é o Filho de Deus, Deus permanece nele, e ele, em Deus.
16 And we have known, and believe to the charity, that God hath in us. God is charity, and he that dwelleth in charity, dwelleth in God, and God in him. (And we have known, and believe in the love, that God hath for us. God is love, and he who remaineth in love, remaineth in God, and God in him.)
16 E nós conhecemos e cremos no amor que Deus tem por nós. Deus é amor, e aquele que permanece no amor permanece em Deus, e Deus, nele.
17 In this thing is the perfect charity of God with us [or In this thing is the perfect charity of God in us], that we have trust in the day of doom; for as he is, also we be in this world. (In this then is the perfect love of God for us, so that we can have trust on the Day of Judgement; for as he is in this world, also we be in this world.)
17 Nisto é em nós aperfeiçoado o amor, para que, no Dia do Juízo, mantenhamos confiança; pois, segundo ele é, também nós somos neste mundo.
18 Dread is not in charity, but perfect charity putteth out dread; for dread hath pain. But he that dreadeth, is not perfect in charity. (There is no fear in love, but perfect love putteth out fear; because fear hath pain, or fear cometh before pain. But he who feareth, is not perfect in love.)
18 No amor não existe medo; antes, o perfeito amor lança fora o medo. Ora, o medo produz tormento; logo, aquele que teme não é aperfeiçoado no amor.
19 Therefore love we God, for he loved us before. [Therefore love we God, for he former loved us \+sls (or for he first loved us)\+sls*.](And so let us love God, for he loved us first.)
19 Nós amamos porque ele nos amou primeiro.
20 If any man saith, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar. For he that loveth not his brother, whom he seeth, how may he love God (or how can he love God), whom he seeth not?
20 Se alguém disser: Amo a Deus, e odiar a seu irmão, é mentiroso; pois aquele que não ama a seu irmão, a quem vê, não pode amar a Deus, a quem não vê.
21 And we have this commandment of God, that he that loveth God, love also his brother.
21 Ora, temos, da parte dele, este mandamento: que aquele que ama a Deus ame também a seu irmão.
