1 Um homem chamado Lázaro estava doente. Ele era do povoado de Betânia, onde Maria e a sua irmã Marta moravam.

3 As duas irmãs mandaram dizer a Jesus: — Senhor, o seu querido amigo Lázaro está doente!

4 Quando Jesus recebeu a notícia, disse:

7 Então disse aos seus discípulos:

11 Jesus disse isso e depois continuou:

12 — Senhor, se ele está dormindo, isso quer dizer que vai ficar bom! — disseram eles.

13 Mas o que Jesus queria dizer era que Lázaro estava morto. Porém eles pensavam que ele estivesse falando do sono natural.

14 Então Jesus disse claramente:

16 Então Tomé, chamado “o Gêmeo”, disse aos outros discípulos: — Vamos nós também a fim de morrer com o Mestre!

17 Quando Jesus chegou, já fazia quatro dias que Lázaro havia sido sepultado.

18 Betânia ficava a menos de três quilômetros de Jerusalém,

19 e muitas pessoas tinham vindo visitar Marta e Maria para as consolarem por causa da morte do irmão.

20 Quando Marta soube que Jesus estava chegando, foi encontrar-se com ele. Porém Maria ficou sentada em casa.

21 Então Marta disse a Jesus: — Se o senhor estivesse aqui, o meu irmão não teria morrido!
22 But|strong="G2532" even|strong="G2532" now|strong="G3568" I|strong="G2532" know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" God|strong="G2316" will|strong="G2316" give|strong="G1325" yoʋ whatever|strong="G3745" yoʋ ask of|strong="G2316" him|strong="G3588".”
22 Mas eu sei que, mesmo assim, Deus lhe dará tudo o que o senhor pedir a ele.
23 Jesus|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" her|strong="G3588", “Yoʋr brother \+w will|strong="G3004"\+w* rise again.”
23 — O seu irmão vai ressuscitar! — disse Jesus.
24 Martha|strong="G3136" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" him|strong="G3588", “I|strong="G3754" know|strong="G1492" that|strong="G3754" he|strong="G3754" will|strong="G2250" rise|strong="G2250" again in|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" resurrection on|strong="G1722" the|strong="G1722" last|strong="G2078" day|strong="G2250".”
24 Marta respondeu: — Eu sei que ele vai ressuscitar no último dia!
25 Jesus|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G1519" her|strong="G1519", “\+w I|strong="G1473"\+w* \+w am|strong="G1510"\+w* \+w the|strong="G2532"\+w* resurrection \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w the|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w life|strong="G2222"\+w*. \+w He|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w who|strong="G3588"\+w* \+w believes|strong="G4100"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1519"\+w* \+w me|strong="G1473"\+w*, \+w though|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w he|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w may|strong="G2532"\+w* die, \+w yet|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w shall|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w he|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w live|strong="G2198"\+w*.
25 Então Jesus afirmou:
26 \+w No|strong="G3756"\+w* \+w one|strong="G3956"\+w* \+w who|strong="G3588"\+w* \+w lives|strong="G2198"\+w* \+w and|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w believes|strong="G4100"\+w* \+w in|strong="G1519"\+w* \+w me|strong="G1473"\+w* \+w will|strong="G2532"\+w* \+w ever|strong="G3756"\+w* die. \+w Do|strong="G2532"\+w* yoʋ \+w believe|strong="G4100"\+w* \+w this|strong="G3778"\+w*?”
26 e quem vive e crê em mim nunca morrerá. Você acredita nisso?

27 — Sim, senhor! — disse ela. — Eu creio que o senhor é o Messias , o Filho de Deus, que devia vir ao mundo.

28 Depois de dizer isso, Marta foi, chamou Maria, a sua irmã, e lhe disse em particular: — O Mestre chegou e está chamando você.

30 Pois ele não tinha chegado ao povoado, mas ainda estava no lugar onde Marta o havia encontrado.

31 As pessoas que estavam na casa com Maria, consolando-a, viram que ela se levantou e saiu depressa. Então foram atrás dela, pois pensavam que ela ia ao túmulo para chorar ali.

32 Maria chegou ao lugar onde Jesus estava e logo que o viu caiu aos pés dele e disse: — Se o senhor tivesse estado aqui, o meu irmão não teria morrido!

33 Jesus viu Maria chorando e viu as pessoas que estavam com ela chorando também. Então ficou muito comovido e aflito

34 e perguntou: — Venha ver, senhor! — responderam.
35 Jesus|strong="G2424" wept|strong="G1145".
35 Jesus chorou.
36 So|strong="G3767" the|strong="G3588" Jews|strong="G2453" said|strong="G3004", “See|strong="G3708" how|strong="G4459" he|strong="G3588" loved|strong="G5368" him|strong="G3588"!”
36 Então as pessoas disseram: — Vejam como ele amava Lázaro!

37 Mas algumas delas disseram: — Ele curou o cego. Será que não poderia ter feito alguma coisa para que Lázaro não morresse?

38 Jesus ficou outra vez muito comovido. Ele foi até o túmulo, que era uma gruta com uma pedra colocada na entrada,
39 Jesus|strong="G2424" said|strong="G3004", “Take away \+w the|strong="G3588"\+w* \+w stone|strong="G3037"\+w*.” Martha|strong="G3136", the|strong="G3588" sister of|strong="G2962" the|strong="G3588" man who|strong="G3588" had|strong="G2424" died|strong="G5053", said|strong="G3004" to|strong="G3004" him|strong="G3588", “Lord|strong="G2962", there|strong="G1063" is|strong="G1510" already|strong="G2235" a|strong="G1510" stench|strong="G3605", for|strong="G1063" it|strong="G1063" is|strong="G1510" the|strong="G3588" fourth day|strong="G3588".”
39 e ordenou: Marta, a irmã do morto, disse: — Senhor, ele está cheirando mal, pois já faz quatro dias que foi sepultado!

40 Jesus respondeu:
41 So|strong="G3767" they|strong="G2532" took|strong="G2532" away the|strong="G2532" stone|strong="G3037" from|strong="G2532" where the|strong="G2532" dead man was|strong="G3588" lying. Then|strong="G3767" Jesus|strong="G2424" lifted|strong="G2532" up|strong="G2532" his|strong="G2532" eyes|strong="G3788" and|strong="G2532" said|strong="G3004", “\+w Father|strong="G3962"\+w*, \+w I|strong="G1473"\+w* \+w thank|strong="G2168"\+w* yoʋ \+w that|strong="G3754"\+w* yoʋ \+w have|strong="G2532"\+w* heard \+w me|strong="G1473"\+w*.
41 Então tiraram a pedra. Jesus olhou para o céu e disse:
