GOD'S WORD (ENGGW) vs NVT
1 Rehoboam went to Shechem because all Israel had gone to Shechem to make him king.
1 Roboão foi a Siquém, onde todo o Israel havia se reunido para proclamá-lo rei.
2 Jeroboam (Nebat’s son) was still in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon. When he heard ⌞about Rehoboam⌟, he returned from Egypt.
2 Quando Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, soube disso, voltou do Egito, para onde havia fugido do rei Salomão.
3 ⌞Israel⌟ sent for Jeroboam and invited him back. Jeroboam and the entire assembly of Israel went to speak to Rehoboam. They said,
3 Os líderes de Israel convocaram Jeroboão, e ele e toda a comunidade de Israel foram falar com Roboão.
4 “Your father made us carry a heavy burden. Reduce the hard work and lighten the heavy burden he put on us, and we will serve you.”
4 “Seu pai foi muito duro conosco”, disseram. “Alivie a carga pesada de trabalho e de impostos altos que seu pai nos obrigou a carregar. Então seremos seus súditos leais.”
5 He said to them, “Leave and come back the day after tomorrow.” So the people left.
5 Roboão respondeu: “Deem-me três dias para pensar. Depois, voltem para saber minha resposta”. E o povo foi embora.
6 King Rehoboam sought advice from the older leaders who had served his father Solomon while he was still alive. He asked, “What do you advise? How should I respond to these people?”
6 O rei Roboão discutiu o assunto com os homens mais velhos que haviam sido conselheiros de seu pai, Salomão. “O que vocês aconselham?”, perguntou ele. “Como devo responder a este povo?”
7 They told him, “If you will serve these people today, humble yourself, and speak gently, then they will always be your servants.”
7 Eles disseram: “Se o senhor estiver disposto a servir este povo hoje e lhe der uma resposta favorável, eles serão seus súditos leais para sempre”.
8 But he ignored the advice the older leaders gave him. He sought advice from the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him.
8 Mas Roboão rejeitou o conselho dos homens mais velhos e pediu a opinião dos jovens que haviam crescido com ele e agora o acompanhavam.
9 He asked them, “What is your advice? How should we respond to these people who are asking me to lighten the burden my father put on them?”
9 “O que vocês aconselham?”, perguntou ele. “Como devo responder a este povo que deseja que eu alivie as cargas impostas por meu pai?”
10 The young men who had grown up with him answered, “This is what you should tell them: ‘My little finger is heavier than my father’s whole body.
10 Os jovens responderam: “Você deve dizer o seguinte a essa gente que diz que seu pai foi muito duro com eles e que pede alívio: ‘Meu dedo mínimo é mais grosso que a cintura de meu pai!
11 If my father put a heavy burden on you, I will add to it. If my father punished you with whips, I will punish you with scorpions.’ ”
11 Sim, meu pai lhes impôs cargas pesadas, mas eu as tornarei ainda mais pesadas! Meu pai os castigou com chicotes comuns, mas eu os castigarei com chicotes de pontas de metal!’”.
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came back to Rehoboam two days later, as the king had instructed them.
12 Três dias depois, Jeroboão e todo o povo voltaram para saber a decisão do rei, como ele havia ordenado.
13 The king answered the people harshly. He ignored the advice the older leaders gave him.
13 Roboão lhes respondeu com aspereza, pois rejeitou o conselho dos homens mais velhos
14 He spoke to them as the young men advised. He said, “If my father made your burden heavy, I will add to it. If my father punished you with whips, I will punish you with scorpions.”
14 e seguiu o conselho dos mais jovens. Disse ao povo: “Meu pai lhes impôs cargas pesadas, mas eu as tornarei ainda mais pesadas! Meu pai os castigou com chicotes comuns, mas eu os castigarei com chicotes de pontas de metal!”.
15 The king refused to listen to the people because the Lord was directing these events to carry out the promise he had made to Jeroboam (Nebat’s son) through Ahijah from Shiloh.
15 Assim, o rei não atendeu o povo. Essa mudança nos acontecimentos foi da vontade do S enhor , pois cumpriu a mensagem do S enhor a Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, por meio do profeta Aías, de Siló.
16 When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, the people answered the king,
16 Quando todo o Israel viu que o rei não iria atender a seu pedido, respondeu: “Abaixo a dinastia de Davi! O filho de Jessé nada tem a nos oferecer! Volte para casa, Israel! E você, Davi, cuide de sua própria casa!”. Então o povo de Israel voltou para casa.
17 But Rehoboam ruled the Israelites who lived in the cities of Judah.
17 Roboão, porém, continuou a governar sobre os israelitas que moravam nas cidades de Judá.
18 Then King Rehoboam sent Adoram to Israel. He was in charge of forced labor, but they stoned him to death. So King Rehoboam got on his chariot as fast as he could and fled to Jerusalem.
18 O rei Roboão enviou Adonirão, encarregado dos trabalhos forçados, para restaurar a ordem, mas o povo de Israel o apedrejou até a morte. Quando essa notícia chegou ao rei Roboão, ele subiu rapidamente em sua carruagem e fugiu para Jerusalém.
19 Israel has rebelled against David’s dynasty to this day.
19 E até hoje as tribos do norte de Israel se recusam a ser governadas por um descendente de Davi.
20 When all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they sent men to invite him to the assembly. They made him king of all Israel. Only the tribe of Judah remained loyal to David’s dynasty.
20 Quando o povo de Israel soube que Jeroboão tinha voltado do Egito, convocou uma assembleia e o proclamou rei sobre todo o Israel. Apenas a tribo de Judá permaneceu leal à família de Davi.
21 When Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he gathered all the people of Judah and the tribe of Benjamin, 180,000 of the best soldiers, to fight against the people of Israel and return the kingdom to Rehoboam, son of Solomon.
21 Quando Roboão chegou a Jerusalém, mobilizou os homens das tribos de Judá e Benjamim, 180 mil dos melhores soldados, para guerrearem contra Israel e recuperarem o reino.
22 But God spoke his word to Shemaiah, the man of God. He said,
22 Deus, porém, falou a Semaías, homem de Deus:
23 “Speak to Judah’s King Rehoboam, son of Solomon, and all the people of Judah and Benjamin, and the rest of the people.
23 “Diga a Roboão, filho de Salomão, rei de Judá, e a todo o povo de Judá e Benjamim, e ao restante do povo:
24 This is what the Lord says: Don’t wage war against your relatives from Israel. Everyone, go home. What has happened is my doing.” So they obeyed the Lord’s word. They returned ⌞home⌟, as the Lord told them.
24 ‘Assim diz o S enhor : Não lutem contra seus compatriotas, os israelitas. Voltem para casa, pois eu mesmo fiz isso acontecer!’”. Eles obedeceram à palavra do S enhor e voltaram para casa, conforme o S enhor havia ordenado.
25 Jeroboam rebuilt Shechem in the hills of Ephraim and lived there. Then he left that place and built Penuel.
25 Então Jeroboão fortificou a cidade de Siquém, na região montanhosa de Efraim, e se estabeleceu ali. Mais tarde, fortificou Peniel.
26 He said to himself, “The kingdom will probably return to David’s dynasty now.
26 Jeroboão pensou: “Se eu não tiver cuidado, o reino voltará à dinastia de Davi.
27 King Rehoboam of Judah, the former master of these people, will regain popularity if they go to sacrifice in the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem. Then they will kill me and return to King Rehoboam of Judah.”
27 Quando o povo for a Jerusalém para oferecer sacrifícios no templo do S enhor , voltará a ser leal a Roboão, rei de Judá. Eles me matarão e o proclamarão rei deles”.
28 After seeking advice, the king made two golden calves. He said, “You’ve been worshiping in Jerusalem long enough. Israel, here are your gods who brought you out of Egypt.”
28 Então, seguindo a recomendação de seus conselheiros, o rei fez dois bezerros de ouro. Disse ao povo: “É complicado demais ir a Jerusalém para adorar. Veja, Israel, estes são os deuses que tiraram vocês do Egito!”.
29 He put one in Bethel and the other in Dan.
29 Colocou um dos bezerros em Betel e o outro em Dã, nos dois extremos de seu reino.
30 Worshiping them became ⌞Israel’s⌟ sin. The people went as far as Dan to worship the one calf.
30 Isso se tornou um grande pecado, pois o povo viajava até Dã, ao norte, para adorar o ídolo que ficava ali.
31 Jeroboam built worship sites on hilltops. He appointed men who were not descended from Levi to be priests.
31 Jeroboão também construiu santuários idólatras e designou para serem sacerdotes homens do povo, que não eram da tribo sacerdotal de Levi.
32 Jeroboam appointed a festival on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, just like the festival in Judah. He went to the altar in Bethel to sacrifice to the calves he had made. He appointed priests from the illegal worship sites ⌞to serve⌟ in Bethel.
32 Instituiu uma festa religiosa em Betel, no décimo quinto dia do oitavo mês, uma imitação da festa celebrada todos os anos em Judá. Ali em Betel, Jeroboão ofereceu sacrifícios aos bezerros que havia feito e designou sacerdotes para os santuários idólatras que havia construído.
33 He went to his altar in Bethel to burn an offering on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, ⌞the festival⌟ he had invented for the Israelites.
33 No décimo quinto dia do oitavo mês, data que ele mesmo tinha definido, ofereceu sacrifícios no altar em Betel. Instituiu, desse modo, uma festa religiosa para Israel e subiu ao altar para queimar incenso.
