1 In those dayes Ihon the Baptyst came and preached in the wildernes of Iury
1 Naqueles dias, veio João, o Batista, pregando no deserto da Judeia,
2 saynge; Repet the kyngdome of heue is at honde.
2 e dizendo: Arrependei-vos, porque o reino do céu tem-se aproximado.
3 This is he of whom it is spoken by the Prophet Esay which sayeth: The voyce of a cryer in wyldernes prepare the Lordes waye and make hys pathes strayght.
3 Porque este é o anunciado pelo profeta Isaías, dizendo: A voz de um clamando no deserto, preparai o caminho do Senhor, fazei planos seus caminhos.
4 This Ihon had hys garmet of camels heer and a gerdell of a skynne aboute his loynes. Hys meate was locustes and wylde hony.
4 E este João tinha as suas vestes de pelos de camelo, e um cinto de couro em torno de seus lombos, e o seu alimento era locustas e mel silvestre.
5 Then went oute to hym Ierusalem and all Iury and all the region roude aboute Iorda
5 Então vinham a ele Jerusalém e toda a Judeia, e toda a região ao redor do Jordão,
6 and were baptised of him in Iorda confessynge their synnes
6 e eram por ele batizados no Jordão, confessando os seus pecados.
7 When he sawe many of the Pharises and of the Saduces come to hys baptism he sayde vnto the: O generacion of vipers who hath taught you to fle from the vengeauce to come?
7 Mas ele vendo muitos dos fariseus e dos saduceus, que vinham ao seu batismo, disse-lhes: Ó geração de víboras, quem vos advertiu para fugir da ira vindoura?
8 Brynge forth therfore the frutes belongynge to repentaunce.
8 Dai, pois, frutos dignos de arrependimento.
9 And se that the ons thynke not to saye in your selues we haue Abraham to oure father. For I saye vnto you that God is able of these stones to rayse vp chyldern vnto Abraham.
9 e não pensai em dizer dentro de vós mesmos: Temos a Abraão por nosso pai, pois eu vos digo que Deus pode, destas pedras, levantar filhos a Abraão.
10 Euen nowe is the axe put vnto the rote of the trees: soo that every tree which bringeth not forthe goode frute is hewe doune and cast into the fyre.
10 E também agora está posto o machado à raiz das árvores; pois, toda árvore não produzindo fruto bom, é cortada e lançada no fogo.
11 I baptise you in water in toke of repentaunce: but he that cometh after me is myghtier then I whose shues I am not worthy to beare. He shall baptise you with the holy gost and with fyre:
11 Eu realmente vos batizo com água para o arrependimento, mas aquele que vem depois de mim é mais poderoso do que eu, cujos calçados não sou digno de carregar; ele vos batizará com o Espírito Santo e com fogo.
12 which hath also his fan in his hond and will pourge his floure and gadre the wheet into his garner and will burne the chaffe with vnquecheable fyre.
12 Cuja a joeira está em sua mão, e limpará minuciosamente a sua eira; recolherá no celeiro o seu trigo, mas queimará a palha no fogo inextinguível.
13 Then cam Iesus from Galile to Iordan vnto Ihon to be baptised of hym.
13 Então Jesus foi da Galileia ao Jordão ter com João, para ser batizado por ele.
14 But Ihon forbade hym saynge: I ought to be baptysed of the: and comest thou to me?
14 Mas João o impedia, dizendo: Eu que tenho necessidade de ser batizado por ti, e vens tu a mim?
15 Iesus answered and sayd to hym: Let it be so now. For thus it becommeth vs to fulfyll all rightwesnes. Then he suffred hym.
15 Jesus, porém, respondendo, disse-lhe: Deixa que assim seja por agora, pois nos convém cumprir toda a justiça. Então ele consentiu.
16 And Iesus assone as he was baptised came strayght out of the water. And lo heue was open over hym: and Ihon sawe the spirite of God descende lyke a doue and lyght vpon hym.
16 E Jesus, quando foi batizado, saiu logo da água, e eis que se lhe abriram os céus, e viu o Espírito de Deus descendo como pomba e vindo sobre ele.
17 And lo there came a voyce from heven sayng: Thys ys that my beloved sonne in whom is my delyte.
17 E eis que uma voz do céu dizia: Este é o meu Filho amado, em quem me comprazo.
