1 I say then, Hath God cast off his people? Far be it I For I myself am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
1 Então eu pergunto: será que Deus rejeitou o seu próprio povo? É claro que não! Eu mesmo sou israelita, descendente de Abraão e membro da tribo de Benjamim.
2 God hath not cast off his people, which he foreknew. Do ye not know what the Scripture saith in the passage concerning Elijah? how he pleadeth to God against Israel:
2 Deus não rejeitou o seu povo, que ele havia escolhido desde o princípio. Vocês sabem muito bem o que as Escrituras Sagradas dizem naquele trecho em que Elias acusa o povo de Israel diante de Deus. Elias diz assim:
3 “Lord, they have killed thy prophets, they have dug down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they are seeking my life.”
3 “Senhor, eles mataram os teus profetas e destruíram os teus altares. Eu sou o único que sobrou, e eles estão querendo me matar!”
4 But what saith the answer of God to him? “I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”
4 O que foi que Deus disse a ele? Ele disse: “Eu guardei para mim sete mil homens que não adoraram o deus Baal .”
5 In the same way then at this present time also there is a remnant, according to the election of grace.
5 A mesma coisa também acontece agora, isto é, por causa da graça de Deus, ainda existe um pequeno número daqueles que ele escolheu.
6 And if it is by grace, it is no longer on account of works; otherwise grace ceaseth to be grace; but if it is of works, there is then no grace; otherwise work ceaseth to be work. How is it then?
6 Essa escolha se baseia na graça de Deus e não no que eles fizeram. Porque, se a escolha de Deus se baseasse no que as pessoas fazem, então a sua graça não seria a verdadeira graça.
7 What Israel seeketh after, that Israel did not obtain; but the elect obtained it, and the rest were hardened;
7 E isso quer dizer que não foi o povo de Israel que encontrou o que estava procurando. Quem encontrou foi apenas um pequeno grupo que Deus escolheu; os outros não quiseram ouvir o chamado de Deus.
8 as it is written: “God gave them a spirit of slumber, eyes that were not to see, and ears that were not to hear, unto this day.”
8 Como dizem as Escrituras Sagradas: “Deus endureceu o coração e a mente deles; deu-lhes olhos que não podem ver e ouvidos que não podem ouvir até o dia de hoje.”
9 And David saith, “Let their table become a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling-block, and a recompense to them;
9 E Davi disse: “Que nas suas festas eles sejam apanhados e enganados, que eles caiam e sejam castigados!
10 let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see; and bow down their back alway.”
10 Ó Deus, faze com que eles fiquem cegos e que fiquem sempre curvados debaixo do peso das suas dificuldades!”
11 I say then, Did they stumble in order to fall? God forbid! But by their offence salvation is come to the gentiles to excite them to emulation.
11 Agora eu pergunto: quando os judeus tropeçaram, será que eles caíram para nunca mais se levantarem? É claro que não! Mas, porque eles pecaram, a salvação veio para os não judeus, para fazer com que os judeus ficassem com ciúmes deles.
12 But if their offence is the riches of the world, and their loss the riches of the gentiles, how much more will their fullness be?
12 O pecado dos judeus trouxe grandes bênçãos para o mundo, e a sua pobreza espiritual trouxe ricas bênçãos para os não judeus. Então, quando se completar o número de judeus que voltarão para Deus, as bênçãos serão muito maiores ainda.
13 For I am speaking to you gentiles; inasmuch as I am the apostle of the gentiles, I magnify my office,
13 Agora estou falando a vocês que não são judeus. Enquanto eu for o apóstolo dos não judeus, terei orgulho do meu trabalho.
14 that I may, if possible, excite to emulation those who are my flesh, and may save some of them.
14 Talvez eu possa fazer com que os que são da minha própria raça fiquem com ciúmes, e assim seja possível salvar alguns deles.
15 For if the rejection of them is the reconciliation of the world, what will the reception of them be, but life from the dead?
15 Porque, quando os judeus foram rejeitados, o resto do mundo se tornou amigo de Deus. O que acontecerá então quando eles forem aceitos? Os que estiverem mortos receberão a vida!
16 And if the first portion of the dough is holy, so also will be the lump; and if the root is holy, so will be the branches.
16 Pois, se o primeiro pão assado depois da colheita é dedicado a Deus, isso quer dizer que todos os outros pães também são dedicados a ele. E, se as raízes de uma árvore são oferecidas a Deus, os galhos também são dele.
17 And if some of the branches have been broken off, and thou, a wild olive, hast been grafted in among them, and become a partaker with them of the root and fatness of the olive-tree,
17 Alguns galhos da oliveira cultivada foram quebrados, e um galho de oliveira brava foi enxertado nela. Pois vocês, os não judeus, são como aquela oliveira brava e agora tomam parte na força e na riqueza espiritual dos judeus.
18 boast not over the branches; for if thou boast, thou dost not bear the root, but the root thee.
18 Portanto, vocês não devem desprezar os galhos que foram quebrados. Como é que vocês podem estar orgulhosos? Vocês são somente galhos. Não são vocês que sustentam a raiz — é a raiz que sustenta vocês.
19 Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.
19 Porém vocês dirão: “Sim, mas os galhos foram quebrados a fim de darem lugar para nós.”
20 Be it so. It was for their unbelief that they were broken off, and thou standest through thy faith; be not high-minded, but fear.
20 Isso é verdade. Mas lembrem que eles foram quebrados porque não creram; no entanto vocês continuam na oliveira porque creem. E não tenham orgulho disso; pelo contrário, tenham medo.
21 For if God spared the natural branches, take care lest he spare not thee.
21 Se Deus não deixou de castigar os judeus, que são como galhos naturais, vocês acham que ele vai deixar de castigar vocês?
22 Behold then the goodness and the severity of God; toward those who fell, severity; but toward thee God's goodness, if thou continue in his goodness; otherwise thou also wilt be cut off.
22 Vejam como Deus é bom e também é duro. Ele é duro para os que caíram e bom para vocês, se continuarem sempre confiando na bondade dele. Se não, vocês também serão cortados.
23 And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in; for God is able to graft them in again.
23 E, se os judeus abandonarem a sua descrença, serão enxertados na oliveira cultivada, pois Deus pode enxertá-los de novo.
24 For if thou hast been cut off from an olive-tree wild by nature, and hast against thy nature been ingrafted into a good olive-tree, how much more shall these, the natural branches, be ingrafted into their own olive-stock?
24 Vocês, os não judeus, são como aquele galho de oliveira brava que foi cortado e enxertado, contra a natureza, na oliveira cultivada. Os judeus são como essa oliveira cultivada. Portanto, para Deus será muito mais fácil enxertar de novo, na própria árvore deles, esses galhos quebrados.
25 For I would not have you ignorant, brethren, of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits, that blindness hath to some extent come upon Israel, until the fullness of the gentiles shall have come in.
25 Meus irmãos, quero que vocês conheçam uma verdade secreta para que não pensem que são muito sábios. A verdade é esta: a teimosia do povo de Israel não durará para sempre, mas somente até que o número completo de não judeus venha para Deus.
26 And thus will all Israel be saved; as it is written, “There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer; he shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob.
26 É assim que todo o povo de Israel será salvo. Como dizem as Escrituras Sagradas : “O Redentor virá de e tirará toda a maldade dos descendentes de Jacó.
27 And this will be my covenant with them, when I shall have taken away their sins.”
27 Eu, o Senhor, farei esta aliança com eles, quando tirar os seus pecados.”
28 In regard to the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes; but in regard to God's choice, they are beloved for the fathers' sake.
28 Os judeus rejeitaram o evangelho e por isso são inimigos de Deus, para o bem de vocês, os não judeus. Mas, pela escolha de Deus, eles são amigos dele, por causa dos patriarcas .
29 For in respect to his gifts and his calling, there is no change of purpose with God.
29 Porque Deus não muda de ideia a respeito de quem ele escolhe e abençoa.
30 For as ye in times past were disobedient to God, but have now obtained mercy through their disobedience,
30 Mas no passado vocês, que não são judeus, desobedeceram a Deus. Porém agora vocês receberam a misericórdia de Deus por causa da desobediência dos judeus.
31 so they too have now become disobedient, that they also may obtain mercy through the mercy shown to you.
31 Assim, por causa da misericórdia que vocês receberam, os judeus agora desobedecem a Deus para que eles também possam receber agora a misericórdia dele.
32 For God delivered up all to disobedience, that he might have mercy upon all.
32 Pois Deus fez com que todos se tornassem prisioneiros da desobediência a fim de mostrar misericórdia a todos.
33 O the depth of the riches, and of the wisdom, and of the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his purposes, and his ways past finding out!
33 Como são grandes as riquezas de Deus! Como são profundos o seu conhecimento e a sua sabedoria! Quem pode explicar as suas decisões? Quem pode entender os seus planos?
34 For “who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been made his counselor?”
34 Como dizem as Escrituras Sagradas : “Quem pode conhecer a mente do Senhor? Quem é capaz de lhe dar conselhos?
35 or “who first gave to him, and shall receive a return?”
35 Quem já deu alguma coisa a Deus para receber dele algum pagamento?”
36 For from him, and through him, and to him are all things. To him be the glory for ever! Amen.
36 Pois todas as coisas foram criadas por ele, e tudo existe por meio dele e para ele. Glória a Deus para sempre! Amém !
