1 The word which Jeremiah the prophet spake to Baruch, the son of Neriah, after he had written these words in a book from the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, saying:—
1 O profeta Jeremias transmitiu esta mensagem a Baruque, filho de Nerias, no quarto ano do reinado de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, depois que Baruque escreveu tudo que Jeremias havia ditado:
2 Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, to thee, O Baruch!
2 “Assim diz o S enhor , o Deus de Israel, a você, Baruque:
3 Thou sayest, “Woe now to me, for Jehovah hath added grief to my sorrow! I am weary with my sighing, and find no rest.”
3 Você disse: ‘Estou cercado de aflições! Será que já não sofri o suficiente? E agora o S enhor acrescentou ainda mais dor! Estou exausto de tanto gemer e não encontro descanso’.
4 Thus shalt thou say to him: Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, that which I myself have builded do I break down, and that which I myself have planted do I pluck up, even this whole land;
4 “Baruque, assim diz o S enhor : ‘Destruirei esta nação que edifiquei; arrancarei o que plantei.
5 and seekest thou great things for thyself? Seek them not; for behold, I am about to bring evil upon all flesh, saith Jehovah; but thy life will I give thee, as a prey, in all places whither thou shalt go.
5 Você procura grandes coisas para si mesmo? Não faça isso! Trarei calamidade sobre todo este povo; a você, porém, darei sua vida como recompensa aonde quer que vá. Eu, o S enhor , falei!’”.
