1 The word which Jeremiah the prophet spake to Baruch, the son of Neriah, after he had written these words in a book from the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, saying:—
1 Palavra que falou Jeremias, o profeta, a Baruque, filho de Nerias, escrevendo ele aquelas palavras num livro, ditadas por Jeremias, no ano quarto de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, dizendo:
2 Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, to thee, O Baruch!
2 Assim diz o Senhor , Deus de Israel, acerca de ti, ó Baruque:
3 Thou sayest, “Woe now to me, for Jehovah hath added grief to my sorrow! I am weary with my sighing, and find no rest.”
3 Disseste: Ai de mim agora! Porque me acrescentou o Senhor tristeza ao meu sofrimento; estou cansado do meu gemer e não acho descanso.
4 Thus shalt thou say to him: Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, that which I myself have builded do I break down, and that which I myself have planted do I pluck up, even this whole land;
4 Assim lhe dirás: Isto diz o Senhor : Eis que estou demolindo o que edifiquei e arrancando o que plantei, e isto em toda a terra.
5 and seekest thou great things for thyself? Seek them not; for behold, I am about to bring evil upon all flesh, saith Jehovah; but thy life will I give thee, as a prey, in all places whither thou shalt go.
5 E procuras tu grandezas? Não as procures; porque eis que trarei mal sobre toda carne, diz o Senhor ; a ti, porém, eu te darei a tua vida como despojo, em todo lugar para onde fores.
