1 Thus saith Jehovah: Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, By which I dismissed her? Or who is he among my creditors To whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities are ye sold, And for your transgressions was your mother dismissed.
1 Assim diz o Senhor : Onde está a carta de divórcio de vossa mãe, pela qual eu a repudiei? Ou quem é o meu credor, a quem eu vos tenha vendido? Eis que por causa das vossas iniquidades é que fostes vendidos, e por causa das vossas transgressões vossa mãe foi repudiada.
2 Wherefore, when I came, was no man at hand? When I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand too short to redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, And make the rivers a desert. Their fish putrefy for want of water, And die with thirst.
2 Por que razão, quando eu vim, ninguém apareceu? Quando chamei, ninguém respondeu? Acaso, se encolheu tanto a minha mão, que já não pode remir ou já não há força em mim para livrar? Eis que pela minha repreensão faço secar o mar e torno os rios um deserto, até que cheirem mal os seus peixes; pois, não havendo água, morrem de sede.
3 I clothe the heavens with blackness, And make sackcloth their covering.
3 Eu visto os céus de negridão e lhes ponho pano de saco por sua coberta.
4 The Lord Jehovah hath given me the tongue of the learned, That I might know how to strengthen with my words them that are weary; He wakeneth me every morning, He wakeneth mine ear, That I may hear in the manner of the learned.
4 O Senhor Deus me deu língua de eruditos, para que eu saiba dizer boa palavra ao cansado. Ele me desperta todas as manhãs, desperta-me o ouvido para que eu ouça como os eruditos.
5 The Lord Jehovah opened mine ear, And I was not disobedient, Neither did I withdraw myself backward.
5 O Senhor Deus me abriu os ouvidos, e eu não fui rebelde, não me retraí.
6 I gave my back to the smiters, And my cheeks to them that pluck the beard; I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
6 Ofereci as costas aos que me feriam e as faces, aos que me arrancavam os cabelos; não escondi o rosto aos que me afrontavam e me cuspiam.
7 But the Lord Jehovah is my helper, Therefore shall I not be confounded; Therefore have I made my face like a flint, For I know that I shall not be put to shame.
7 Porque o Senhor Deus me ajudou, pelo que não me senti envergonhado; por isso, fiz o meu rosto como um seixo e sei que não serei envergonhado.
8 He that defendeth my cause is near; Who will contend with me? Let us stand up together! Who is my adversary? Let him come near to me!
8 Perto está o que me justifica; quem contenderá comigo? Apresentemo-nos juntamente; quem é o meu adversário? Chegue-se para mim.
9 Behold, the Lord Jehovah is my defender; Who is he that shall condemn me? Behold, they shall all waste away like a garment; The moth shall consume them.
9 Eis que o Senhor Deus me ajuda; quem há que me condene? Eis que todos eles, como um vestido, serão consumidos; a traça os comerá.
10 Who is there among you that feareth Jehovah, That hearkeneth to the voice of his servant, That walketh in darkness and hath no light? Let him trust in the name of Jehovah, And lean upon his God.
10 Quem há entre vós que tema ao Senhor e que ouça a voz do seu Servo? Aquele que andou em trevas, sem nenhuma luz, confie em o nome do Senhor e se firme sobre o seu Deus.
11 Behold, all ye who kindle a fire, Who gird yourselves with burning arrows! Walk ye in the light of your fire, And in the burning arrows which ye have kindled. This shall ye have from my hand; Ye shall lie down in sorrow.
11 Eia! Todos vós, que acendeis fogo e vos armais de setas incendiárias, andai entre as labaredas do vosso fogo e entre as setas que acendestes; de mim é que vos sobrevirá isto, e em tormentas vos deitareis.
