1 And all the people|strong="H5971" gathered themselves together|strong="H0622" as one|strong="H0259" man|strong="H0376" into the street|strong="H7339" that was before|strong="H6440" the water|strong="H4325" gate|strong="H8179"; and they spake|strong="H0559" unto Ezra|strong="H5830" the scribe|strong="H5608" to bring|strong="H0935" the book|strong="H5612" of the law|strong="H8451" of Moses|strong="H4872", which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had commanded|strong="H6680" to Israel|strong="H3478".
2 And Ezra|strong="H5830" the priest|strong="H3548" brought|strong="H0935" the law|strong="H8451" before|strong="H6440" the congregation|strong="H6951" both of men|strong="H0376" and women|strong="H0802", and all that could hear|strong="H8085" with understanding|strong="H0995", upon the first|strong="H0259" day|strong="H3117" of the seventh|strong="H7637" month|strong="H2320".
3 And he read|strong="H7121" therein before|strong="H6440" the street|strong="H7339" that was before|strong="H6440" the water|strong="H4325" gate|strong="H8179" from the morning|strong="H0216" until midday|strong="H4276", before the men|strong="H0582" and the women|strong="H0802", and those that could understand|strong="H0995"; and the ears|strong="H0241" of all the people|strong="H5971" were attentive unto the book|strong="H5612" of the law|strong="H8451".
4 And Ezra|strong="H5830" the scribe|strong="H5608" stood|strong="H5975" upon a pulpit|strong="H4026" of wood|strong="H6086", which they had made|strong="H6213" for the purpose|strong="H1697"; and beside|strong="H0681" him stood|strong="H5975" Mattithiah|strong="H4993", and Shema|strong="H8087", and Anaiah|strong="H6043", and Urijah|strong="H0223", and Hilkiah|strong="H2518", and Maaseiah|strong="H4641", on his right hand|strong="H3225"; and on his left hand|strong="H8040", Pedaiah|strong="H6305", and Mishael|strong="H4332", and Malchiah|strong="H4441", and Hashum|strong="H2828", and Hashbadana|strong="H2806", Zechariah|strong="H2148", and Meshullam|strong="H4918".
5 And Ezra|strong="H5830" opened|strong="H6605" the book|strong="H5612" in the sight|strong="H5869" of all the people|strong="H5971"; (for he was above all the people|strong="H5971";) and when he opened|strong="H6605" it, all the people|strong="H5971" stood up|strong="H5975":
6 And Ezra|strong="H5830" blessed|strong="H1288" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, the great|strong="H1419" God|strong="H0430". And all the people|strong="H5971" answered|strong="H6030", Amen|strong="H0543", Amen|strong="H0543", with lifting up|strong="H4607" their hands|strong="H3027": and they bowed|strong="H6915" their heads, and worshipped|strong="H7812" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* with their faces|strong="H0639" to the ground|strong="H0776".
7 Also Jeshua|strong="H3442", and Bani|strong="H1137", and Sherebiah|strong="H8274", Jamin|strong="H3226", Akkub|strong="H6126", Shabbethai|strong="H7678", Hodijah|strong="H1941", Maaseiah|strong="H4641", Kelita|strong="H7042", Azariah|strong="H5838", Jozabad|strong="H3107", Hanan|strong="H2605", Pelaiah|strong="H6411", and the Levites|strong="H3881", caused the people|strong="H5971" to understand|strong="H0995" the law|strong="H8451": and the people|strong="H5971" stood in their place|strong="H5977".
8 So they read|strong="H7121" in the book|strong="H5612" in the law|strong="H8451" of God|strong="H0430" distinctly|strong="H6567", and gave|strong="H7760" the sense|strong="H7922", and caused them to understand|strong="H0995" the reading|strong="H4744".
9 And Nehemiah|strong="H5166", which is the Tirshatha|strong="H8660", and Ezra|strong="H5830" the priest|strong="H3548" the scribe|strong="H5608", and the Levites|strong="H3881" that taught|strong="H0995" the people|strong="H5971", said|strong="H0559" unto all the people|strong="H5971", This day|strong="H3117" is holy|strong="H6918" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* your God|strong="H0430"; mourn|strong="H0056" not, nor weep|strong="H1058". For all the people|strong="H5971" wept|strong="H1058", when they heard|strong="H8085" the words|strong="H1697" of the law|strong="H8451".
10 Then he said|strong="H0559" unto them, Go your way|strong="H3212", eat|strong="H0398" the fat|strong="H4924", and drink|strong="H8354" the sweet|strong="H4477", and send|strong="H7971" portions|strong="H4490" unto them for whom nothing is prepared|strong="H3559": for this day|strong="H3117" is holy|strong="H6918" unto our Lord|strong="H0113": neither be ye sorry|strong="H6087"; for the joy|strong="H2304" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* is your strength|strong="H4581".
11 So the Levites|strong="H3881" stilled|strong="H2814" all the people|strong="H5971", saying|strong="H0559", Hold your peace|strong="H2013", for the day|strong="H3117" is holy|strong="H6918"; neither be ye grieved|strong="H6087".
12 And all the people|strong="H5971" went their way|strong="H3212" to eat|strong="H0398", and to drink|strong="H8354", and to send|strong="H7971" portions|strong="H4490", and to make|strong="H6213" great|strong="H1419" mirth|strong="H8057", because they had understood|strong="H0995" the words|strong="H1697" that were declared|strong="H3045" unto them.
13 And on the second|strong="H8145" day|strong="H3117" were gathered together|strong="H0622" the chief|strong="H7218" of the fathers|strong="H0001" of all the people|strong="H5971", the priests|strong="H3548", and the Levites|strong="H3881", unto Ezra|strong="H5830" the scribe|strong="H5608", even to understand|strong="H7919" the words|strong="H1697" of the law|strong="H8451".
14 And they found|strong="H4672" written|strong="H3789" in the law|strong="H8451" which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had commanded|strong="H6680" by|strong="H3027" Moses|strong="H4872", that the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" should dwell|strong="H3427" in booths|strong="H5521" in the feast|strong="H2282" of the seventh|strong="H7637" month|strong="H2320":
15 And that they should publish|strong="H8085" and proclaim|strong="H5674" in all their cities|strong="H5892", and in Jerusalem|strong="H3389", saying|strong="H0559", Go forth|strong="H3318" unto the mount|strong="H2022", and fetch|strong="H0935" olive|strong="H2132" branches|strong="H5929", and pine|strong="H8081" branches|strong="H6086", and myrtle|strong="H1918" branches|strong="H5929", and palm|strong="H8558" branches|strong="H5929", and branches|strong="H5929" of thick|strong="H5687" trees|strong="H6086", to make|strong="H6213" booths|strong="H5521", as it is written|strong="H3789".
16 So the people|strong="H5971" went forth|strong="H3318", and brought|strong="H0935" them, and made|strong="H6213" themselves booths|strong="H5521", every one|strong="H0376" upon the roof of his house|strong="H1406", and in their courts|strong="H2691", and in the courts|strong="H2691" of the house|strong="H1004" of God|strong="H0430", and in the street|strong="H7339" of the water|strong="H4325" gate|strong="H8179", and in the street|strong="H7339" of the gate|strong="H8179" of Ephraim|strong="H0669".
17 And all the congregation|strong="H6951" of them that were come again|strong="H7725" out of the captivity|strong="H7628" made|strong="H6213" booths|strong="H5521", and sat|strong="H3427" under the booths|strong="H5521": for since the days|strong="H3117" of Jeshua|strong="H3442" the son|strong="H1121" of Nun|strong="H5126" unto that day|strong="H3117" had not the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" done so|strong="H6213". And there was very|strong="H3966" great|strong="H1419" gladness|strong="H8057".
18 Also day|strong="H3117" by day|strong="H3117", from the first|strong="H7223" day|strong="H3117" unto the last|strong="H0314" day|strong="H3117", he read|strong="H7121" in the book|strong="H5612" of the law|strong="H8451" of God|strong="H0430". And they kept|strong="H6213" the feast|strong="H2282" seven|strong="H7651" days|strong="H3117"; and on the eighth|strong="H8066" day|strong="H3117" was a solemn assembly|strong="H6116", according unto the manner|strong="H4941".
