1 Then Jerubbaal|strong="H3378", who is Gideon|strong="H1439", and all the people|strong="H5971" that were with him, rose up early|strong="H7925", and pitched|strong="H2583" beside the well of Harod|strong="H5878": so that the host|strong="H4264" of the Midianites|strong="H4080" were on the north side|strong="H6828" of them, by the hill|strong="H1389" of Moreh|strong="H4176", in the valley|strong="H6010".
2 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto Gideon|strong="H1439", The people|strong="H5971" that are with thee are too many|strong="H7227" for me to give|strong="H5414" the Midianites|strong="H4080" into their hands|strong="H3027", lest Israel|strong="H3478" vaunt|strong="H6286" themselves against me, saying|strong="H0559", Mine own hand|strong="H3027" hath saved|strong="H3467" me.
3 Now therefore go to|strong="H4994", proclaim|strong="H7121" in the ears|strong="H0241" of the people|strong="H5971", saying|strong="H0559", Whosoever is fearful|strong="H3373" and afraid|strong="H2730", let him return|strong="H7725" and depart early|strong="H6852" from mount|strong="H2022" Gilead|strong="H1568". And there returned|strong="H7725" of the people|strong="H5971" twenty|strong="H6242" and two|strong="H8147" thousand|strong="H0505"; and there remained|strong="H7604" ten|strong="H6235" thousand|strong="H0505".
4 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto Gideon|strong="H1439", The people|strong="H5971" are yet too many|strong="H7227"; bring them down|strong="H3381" unto the water|strong="H4325", and I will try|strong="H6884" them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say|strong="H0559" unto thee, This shall go|strong="H3212" with thee, the same shall go|strong="H3212" with thee; and of whomsoever I say|strong="H0559" unto thee, This shall not go|strong="H3212" with thee, the same shall not go|strong="H3212".
5 So he brought down|strong="H3381" the people|strong="H5971" unto the water|strong="H4325": and the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto Gideon|strong="H1439", Every one that lappeth|strong="H3952" of the water|strong="H4325" with his tongue|strong="H3956", as a dog|strong="H3611" lappeth|strong="H3952", him shalt thou set|strong="H3322" by himself; likewise every one that boweth down|strong="H3766" upon his knees|strong="H1290" to drink|strong="H8354".
6 And the number|strong="H4557" of them that lapped|strong="H3952", putting their hand|strong="H3027" to their mouth|strong="H6310", were three|strong="H7969" hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376": but all the rest|strong="H3499" of the people|strong="H5971" bowed down|strong="H3766" upon their knees|strong="H1290" to drink|strong="H8354" water|strong="H4325".
7 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto Gideon|strong="H1439", By the three|strong="H7969" hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376" that lapped|strong="H3952" will I save|strong="H3467" you, and deliver|strong="H5414" the Midianites|strong="H4080" into thine hand|strong="H3027": and let all the other people|strong="H5971" go|strong="H3212" every man|strong="H0376" unto his place|strong="H4725".
8 So the people|strong="H5971" took|strong="H3947" victuals|strong="H6720" in their hand|strong="H3027", and their trumpets|strong="H7782": and he sent|strong="H7971" all|strong="H0376" the rest of Israel|strong="H3478" every man|strong="H0376" unto his tent|strong="H0168", and retained|strong="H2388" those three|strong="H7969" hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376": and the host|strong="H4264" of Midian|strong="H4080" was beneath him in the valley|strong="H6010".
9 And it came to pass the same night|strong="H3915", that the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto him, Arise|strong="H6965", get thee down|strong="H3381" unto the host|strong="H4264"; for I have delivered|strong="H5414" it into thine hand|strong="H3027".
10 But if thou fear|strong="H3373" to go down|strong="H3381", go|strong="H3381" thou with Phurah|strong="H6513" thy servant|strong="H5288" down|strong="H3381" to the host|strong="H4264":
11 And thou shalt hear|strong="H8085" what they say|strong="H1696"; and afterward|strong="H0310" shall thine hands|strong="H3027" be strengthened|strong="H2388" to go down|strong="H3381" unto the host|strong="H4264". Then went he down|strong="H3381" with Phurah|strong="H6513" his servant|strong="H5288" unto the outside|strong="H7097" of the armed men|strong="H2571" that were in the host|strong="H4264".
12 And the Midianites|strong="H4080" and the Amalekites|strong="H6002" and all the children|strong="H1121" of the east|strong="H6924" lay|strong="H5307" along in the valley|strong="H6010" like grasshoppers|strong="H0697" for multitude|strong="H7230"; and their camels|strong="H1581" were without number|strong="H4557", as the sand|strong="H2344" by the sea|strong="H3220" side|strong="H8193" for multitude|strong="H7230".
13 And when Gideon|strong="H1439" was come|strong="H0935", behold, there was a man|strong="H0376" that told|strong="H5608" a dream|strong="H2472" unto his fellow|strong="H7453", and said|strong="H0559", Behold, I dreamed|strong="H2492" a dream|strong="H2472", and, lo, a cake|strong="H6742" of barley|strong="H8184" bread|strong="H3899" tumbled|strong="H2015" into the host|strong="H4264" of Midian|strong="H4080", and came|strong="H0935" unto a tent|strong="H0168", and smote|strong="H5221" it that it fell|strong="H5307", and overturned|strong="H2015" it, that the tent|strong="H0168" lay along|strong="H5307".
14 And his fellow|strong="H7453" answered|strong="H6030" and said|strong="H0559", This is nothing else save the sword|strong="H2719" of Gideon|strong="H1439" the son|strong="H1121" of Joash|strong="H3101", a man|strong="H0376" of Israel|strong="H3478": for into his hand|strong="H3027" hath God|strong="H0430" delivered|strong="H5414" Midian|strong="H4080", and all the host|strong="H4264".
15 And it was so, when Gideon|strong="H1439" heard|strong="H8085" the telling|strong="H4557" of the dream|strong="H2472", and the interpretation|strong="H7667" thereof, that he worshipped|strong="H7812", and returned|strong="H7725" into the host|strong="H4264" of Israel|strong="H3478", and said|strong="H0559", Arise|strong="H6965"; for the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath delivered|strong="H5414" into your hand|strong="H3027" the host|strong="H4264" of Midian|strong="H4080".
16 And he divided|strong="H2673" the three|strong="H7969" hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376" into three|strong="H7969" companies|strong="H7218", and he put|strong="H5414" a trumpet|strong="H7782" in every man’s hand|strong="H3027", with empty|strong="H7386" pitchers|strong="H3537", and lamps|strong="H3940" within|strong="H8432" the pitchers|strong="H3537".
17 And he said|strong="H0559" unto them, Look|strong="H7200" on me, and do|strong="H6213" likewise: and, behold, when I come|strong="H0935" to the outside|strong="H7097" of the camp|strong="H4264", it shall be that, as I do|strong="H6213", so shall ye do|strong="H6213".
18 When I blow|strong="H8628" with a trumpet|strong="H7782", I and all that are with me, then blow|strong="H8628" ye the trumpets|strong="H7782" also on every side|strong="H5439" of all the camp|strong="H4264", and say|strong="H0559", The sword of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and of Gideon|strong="H1439".
19 So Gideon|strong="H1439", and the hundred|strong="H3967" men|strong="H0376" that were with him, came|strong="H0935" unto the outside|strong="H7097" of the camp|strong="H4264" in the beginning|strong="H7218" of the middle|strong="H8484" watch|strong="H0821"; and they had but|strong="H0389" newly|strong="H6965" set|strong="H6965" the watch|strong="H8104": and they blew|strong="H8628" the trumpets|strong="H7782", and brake|strong="H5310" the pitchers|strong="H3537" that were in their hands|strong="H3027".
20 And the three|strong="H7969" companies|strong="H7218" blew|strong="H8628" the trumpets|strong="H7782", and brake|strong="H7665" the pitchers|strong="H3537", and held|strong="H2388" the lamps|strong="H3940" in their left|strong="H8040" hands|strong="H3027", and the trumpets|strong="H7782" in their right|strong="H3225" hands|strong="H3027" to blow|strong="H8628" withal: and they cried|strong="H7121", The sword|strong="H2719" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and of Gideon|strong="H1439".
21 And they stood|strong="H5975" every man|strong="H0376" in his place round about|strong="H5439" the camp|strong="H4264": and all the host|strong="H4264" ran|strong="H7323", and cried|strong="H7321", and fled|strong="H5127".
22 And the three|strong="H7969" hundred|strong="H3967" blew|strong="H8628" the trumpets|strong="H7782", and the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* set|strong="H7760" every man’s|strong="H0376" sword|strong="H2719" against his fellow|strong="H7453", even throughout all the host|strong="H4264": and the host|strong="H4264" fled|strong="H5127" to Beth-shittah|strong="H1029" in Zererath|strong="H6888", and to the border|strong="H8193" of Abel-meholah|strong="H0065", unto Tabbath|strong="H2888".
23 And the men|strong="H0376" of Israel|strong="H3478" gathered themselves together|strong="H6817" out of Naphtali|strong="H5321", and out of Asher|strong="H0836", and out of all Manasseh|strong="H4519", and pursued|strong="H7291" after|strong="H0310" the Midianites|strong="H4080".
24 And Gideon|strong="H1439" sent|strong="H7971" messengers|strong="H4397" throughout all mount|strong="H2022" Ephraim|strong="H0669", saying|strong="H0559", Come down|strong="H3381" against|strong="H7125" the Midianites|strong="H4080", and take|strong="H3920" before them the waters|strong="H4325" unto Beth-barah|strong="H1012" and Jordan|strong="H3383". Then all the men|strong="H0376" of Ephraim|strong="H0669" gathered themselves together|strong="H6817", and took|strong="H3920" the waters|strong="H4325" unto Beth-barah|strong="H1012" and Jordan|strong="H3383".
25 And they took|strong="H3920" two|strong="H8147" princes|strong="H8269" of the Midianites|strong="H4080", Oreb|strong="H6159" and Zeeb|strong="H2062"; and they slew|strong="H2026" Oreb|strong="H6159" upon the rock|strong="H6697" Oreb|strong="H6159", and Zeeb|strong="H2062" they slew|strong="H2026" at the winepress|strong="H3342" of Zeeb|strong="H2062", and pursued|strong="H7291" Midian|strong="H4080", and brought|strong="H0935" the heads|strong="H7218" of Oreb|strong="H6159" and Zeeb|strong="H2062" to Gideon|strong="H1439" on the other side|strong="H5676" Jordan|strong="H3383".
