And king|strong="H4428" Zedekiah|strong="H6667" the son|strong="H1121" of Josiah|strong="H2977" reigned|strong="H4427" instead of Coniah|strong="H3659" the son|strong="H1121" of Jehoiakim|strong="H3079", whom Nebuchadrezzar|strong="H5019" king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" made king|strong="H4427" in the land|strong="H0776" of Judah|strong="H3063".
But neither he, nor his servants|strong="H5650", nor the people|strong="H5971" of the land|strong="H0776", did hearken|strong="H8085" unto the words|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, which he spake|strong="H1696" by|strong="H3027" the prophet|strong="H5030" Jeremiah|strong="H3414".
And Zedekiah|strong="H6667" the king|strong="H4428" sent|strong="H7971" Jehucal|strong="H3081" the son|strong="H1121" of Shelemiah|strong="H8018" and Zephaniah|strong="H6846" the son|strong="H1121" of Maaseiah|strong="H4641" the priest|strong="H3548" to the prophet|strong="H5030" Jeremiah|strong="H3414", saying|strong="H0559", Pray|strong="H6419" now unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430" for us.
Now Jeremiah|strong="H3414" came in|strong="H0935" and went out|strong="H3318" among|strong="H8432" the people|strong="H5971": for they had not put|strong="H5414" him into prison|strong="H1004".
Then Pharaoh’s|strong="H6547" army|strong="H2428" was come forth|strong="H3318" out of Egypt|strong="H4714": and when the Chaldeans|strong="H3778" that besieged|strong="H6696" Jerusalem|strong="H3389" heard|strong="H8085" tidings|strong="H8088" of them, they departed|strong="H5927" from Jerusalem|strong="H3389".
Then came the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* unto the prophet|strong="H5030" Jeremiah|strong="H3414", saying|strong="H0559",
Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478"; Thus shall ye say|strong="H0559" to the king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", that sent|strong="H7971" you unto me to enquire|strong="H1875" of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s|strong="H6547" army|strong="H2428", which is come forth|strong="H3318" to help|strong="H5833" you, shall return|strong="H7725" to Egypt|strong="H4714" into their own land|strong="H0776".
And the Chaldeans|strong="H3778" shall come again|strong="H7725", and fight|strong="H3898" against this city|strong="H5892", and take|strong="H3920" it, and burn|strong="H8313" it with fire|strong="H0784".
Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; Deceive|strong="H5377" not yourselves|strong="H5315", saying|strong="H0559", The Chaldeans|strong="H3778" shall surely|strong="H1980" depart|strong="H3212" from us: for they shall not depart|strong="H3212".
For though ye had smitten|strong="H5221" the whole army|strong="H2428" of the Chaldeans|strong="H3778" that fight|strong="H3898" against you, and there remained|strong="H7604" but wounded|strong="H1856" men|strong="H0582" among them, yet should they rise up|strong="H6965" every man|strong="H0376" in his tent|strong="H0168", and burn|strong="H8313" this city|strong="H5892" with fire|strong="H0784".
And it came to pass, that when the army|strong="H2428" of the Chaldeans|strong="H3778" was broken up|strong="H5927" from Jerusalem|strong="H3389" for fear|strong="H6440" of Pharaoh’s|strong="H6547" army|strong="H2428",
Then Jeremiah|strong="H3414" went forth|strong="H3318" out of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" to go|strong="H3212" into the land|strong="H0776" of Benjamin|strong="H1144", to separate|strong="H2505" himself thence in the midst|strong="H8432" of the people|strong="H5971".
And when he was in the gate|strong="H8179" of Benjamin|strong="H1144", a captain|strong="H1167" of the ward|strong="H6488" was there, whose name|strong="H8034" was Irijah|strong="H3376", the son|strong="H1121" of Shelemiah|strong="H8018", the son|strong="H1121" of Hananiah|strong="H2608"; and he took|strong="H8610" Jeremiah|strong="H3414" the prophet|strong="H5030", saying|strong="H0559", Thou fallest away|strong="H5307" to the Chaldeans|strong="H3778".
Then said|strong="H0559" Jeremiah|strong="H3414", It is false|strong="H8267"; I fall not away|strong="H5307" to the Chaldeans|strong="H3778". But he hearkened|strong="H8085" not to him: so Irijah|strong="H3376" took|strong="H8610" Jeremiah|strong="H3414", and brought|strong="H0935" him to the princes|strong="H8269".
Wherefore the princes|strong="H8269" were wroth|strong="H7107" with Jeremiah|strong="H3414", and smote|strong="H5221" him, and put|strong="H5414" him in prison|strong="H0612" in the house|strong="H1004" of Jonathan|strong="H3083" the scribe|strong="H5608": for they had made|strong="H6213" that the prison|strong="H3608".
When Jeremiah|strong="H3414" was entered|strong="H0935" into the dungeon|strong="H1004", and into the cabins|strong="H2588", and Jeremiah|strong="H3414" had remained|strong="H3427" there many|strong="H7227" days|strong="H3117";
Then Zedekiah|strong="H6667" the king|strong="H4428" sent|strong="H7971", and took him out|strong="H3947": and the king|strong="H4428" asked|strong="H7592" him secretly|strong="H5643" in his house|strong="H1004", and said|strong="H0559", Is there any word|strong="H1697" from the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*? And Jeremiah|strong="H3414" said|strong="H0559", There is|strong="H3426": for, said|strong="H0559" he, thou shalt be delivered|strong="H5414" into the hand|strong="H3027" of the king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894".
Moreover Jeremiah|strong="H3414" said|strong="H0559" unto king|strong="H4428" Zedekiah|strong="H6667", What have I offended|strong="H2398" against thee, or against thy servants|strong="H5650", or against this people|strong="H5971", that ye have put|strong="H5414" me in prison|strong="H1004"?
Where are now|strong="H0346" your prophets|strong="H5030" which prophesied|strong="H5012" unto you, saying|strong="H0559", The king|strong="H4428" of Babylon|strong="H0894" shall not come|strong="H0935" against you, nor against this land|strong="H0776"?
Therefore hear|strong="H8085" now, I pray thee, O my lord|strong="H0113" the king|strong="H4428": let my supplication|strong="H8467", I pray thee, be accepted|strong="H5307" before|strong="H6440" thee; that thou cause me not to return|strong="H7725" to the house|strong="H1004" of Jonathan|strong="H3083" the scribe|strong="H5608", lest I die|strong="H4191" there.
Then Zedekiah|strong="H6667" the king|strong="H4428" commanded|strong="H6680" that they should commit|strong="H6485" Jeremiah|strong="H3414" into the court|strong="H2691" of the prison|strong="H4307", and that they should give|strong="H5414" him daily|strong="H3117" a piece|strong="H3603" of bread|strong="H3899" out of the bakers’|strong="H0644" street|strong="H2351", until all the bread|strong="H3899" in the city|strong="H5892" were spent|strong="H8552". Thus Jeremiah|strong="H3414" remained|strong="H3427" in the court|strong="H2691" of the prison|strong="H4307".
