Jeremias 18

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

The word|strong="H1697" which came to Jeremiah|strong="H3414" from the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, saying|strong="H0559",

Arise|strong="H6965", and go down|strong="H3381" to the potter’s|strong="H3335" house|strong="H1004", and there I will cause thee to hear|strong="H8085" my words|strong="H1697".

Then I went down|strong="H3381" to the potter’s|strong="H3335" house|strong="H1004", and, behold|strong="H2009", he wrought|strong="H6213" a work|strong="H4399" on the wheels|strong="H0070".

And the vessel|strong="H3627" that he made|strong="H6213" of clay|strong="H2563" was marred|strong="H7843" in the hand|strong="H3027" of the potter|strong="H3335": so he made|strong="H6213" it again|strong="H7725" another|strong="H0312" vessel|strong="H3627", as seemed|strong="H5869" good|strong="H3474" to the potter|strong="H3335" to make|strong="H6213" it.

Then the word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* came to me, saying|strong="H0559",

O house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478", cannot|strong="H3201" I do|strong="H6213" with you as this potter|strong="H3335"? saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*. Behold, as the clay|strong="H2563" is in the potter’s|strong="H3335" hand|strong="H3027", so are ye in mine hand|strong="H3027", O house|strong="H1004" of Israel|strong="H3478".

At what instant|strong="H7281" I shall speak|strong="H1696" concerning a nation|strong="H1471", and concerning a kingdom|strong="H4467", to pluck up|strong="H5428", and to pull down|strong="H5422", and to destroy|strong="H0006" it;

If that nation|strong="H1471", against whom I have pronounced|strong="H1696", turn|strong="H7725" from their evil|strong="H7451", I will repent|strong="H5162" of the evil|strong="H7451" that I thought|strong="H2803" to do|strong="H6213" unto them.

And at what instant|strong="H7281" I shall speak|strong="H1696" concerning a nation|strong="H1471", and concerning a kingdom|strong="H4467", to build|strong="H1129" and to plant|strong="H5193" it;

If it do|strong="H6213" evil|strong="H7451" in my sight|strong="H5869", that it obey|strong="H8085" not my voice|strong="H6963", then I will repent|strong="H5162" of the good|strong="H2896", wherewith I said|strong="H0559" I would benefit|strong="H3190" them.

Now therefore go to, speak|strong="H0559" to the men|strong="H0376" of Judah|strong="H3063", and to the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389", saying|strong="H0559", Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; Behold, I frame|strong="H3335" evil|strong="H7451" against you, and devise|strong="H2803" a device|strong="H4284" against you: return|strong="H7725" ye now every one|strong="H0376" from his evil|strong="H7451" way|strong="H1870", and make your ways|strong="H1870" and your doings|strong="H4611" good|strong="H3190".

And they said|strong="H0559", There is no hope|strong="H2976": but we will walk|strong="H3212" after|strong="H0310" our own devices|strong="H4284", and we will every one|strong="H0376" do|strong="H6213" the imagination|strong="H8307" of his evil|strong="H7451" heart|strong="H3820".

Therefore thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; Ask|strong="H7592" ye now among the heathen|strong="H1471", who hath heard|strong="H8085" such things: the virgin|strong="H1330" of Israel|strong="H3478" hath done|strong="H6213" a very|strong="H3966" horrible thing|strong="H8186".

Will a man leave|strong="H5800" the snow|strong="H7950" of Lebanon|strong="H3844" which cometh from the rock|strong="H6697" of the field|strong="H7704"? or shall the cold|strong="H7119" flowing|strong="H5140" waters|strong="H4325" that come from another place|strong="H2114" be forsaken|strong="H5428"?

Because my people|strong="H5971" hath forgotten|strong="H7911" me, they have burned incense|strong="H6999" to vanity|strong="H7723", and they have caused them to stumble|strong="H3782" in their ways|strong="H1870" from the ancient|strong="H5769" paths|strong="H7635", to walk|strong="H3212" in paths|strong="H5410", in a way|strong="H1870" not cast up|strong="H5549";

To make|strong="H7760" their land|strong="H0776" desolate|strong="H8047", and a perpetual|strong="H5769" hissing|strong="H8292"; every one that passeth|strong="H5674" thereby shall be astonished|strong="H8074", and wag|strong="H5110" his head|strong="H7218".

I will scatter|strong="H6327" them as with an east|strong="H6921" wind|strong="H7307" before|strong="H6440" the enemy|strong="H0341"; I will shew|strong="H7200" them the back|strong="H6203", and not the face|strong="H6440", in the day|strong="H3117" of their calamity|strong="H0343".

Then said|strong="H0559" they, Come|strong="H3212", and let us devise|strong="H2803" devices|strong="H4284" against Jeremiah|strong="H3414"; for the law|strong="H8451" shall not perish|strong="H0006" from the priest|strong="H3548", nor counsel|strong="H6098" from the wise|strong="H2450", nor the word|strong="H1697" from the prophet|strong="H5030". Come|strong="H3212", and let us smite|strong="H5221" him with the tongue|strong="H3956", and let us not give heed|strong="H7181" to any of his words|strong="H1697".

Give heed|strong="H7181" to me, O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and hearken|strong="H8085" to the voice|strong="H6963" of them that contend|strong="H3401" with me.

Shall evil|strong="H7451" be recompensed|strong="H7999" for good|strong="H2896"? for they have digged|strong="H3738" a pit|strong="H7745" for my soul|strong="H5315". Remember|strong="H2142" that I stood|strong="H5975" before|strong="H6440" thee to speak|strong="H1696" good|strong="H2896" for them, and to turn away|strong="H7725" thy wrath|strong="H2534" from them.

Therefore deliver up|strong="H5414" their children|strong="H1121" to the famine|strong="H7458", and pour out|strong="H5064" their blood by the force|strong="H3027" of the sword|strong="H2719"; and let their wives|strong="H0802" be bereaved|strong="H7909" of their children, and be widows|strong="H0490"; and let their men|strong="H0582" be put|strong="H2026" to death|strong="H4194"; let their young men|strong="H0970" be slain|strong="H5221" by the sword|strong="H2719" in battle|strong="H4421".

Let a cry|strong="H2201" be heard|strong="H8085" from their houses|strong="H1004", when thou shalt bring|strong="H0935" a troop|strong="H1416" suddenly|strong="H6597" upon them: for they have digged|strong="H3738" a pit|strong="H7745" to take|strong="H3920" me, and hid|strong="H2934" snares|strong="H6341" for my feet|strong="H7272".

Yet, \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, thou knowest|strong="H3045" all their counsel|strong="H6098" against me to slay|strong="H4194" me: forgive|strong="H3722" not their iniquity|strong="H5771", neither blot out|strong="H4229" their sin|strong="H2403" from thy sight|strong="H6440", but let them be overthrown|strong="H3782" before|strong="H6440" thee; deal|strong="H6213" thus with them in the time|strong="H6256" of thine anger|strong="H0639".
