Jeremias 14

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

The word|strong="H1697" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* that came to Jeremiah|strong="H3414" concerning|strong="H1697" the dearth|strong="H1226".

Judah|strong="H3063" mourneth|strong="H0056", and the gates|strong="H8179" thereof languish|strong="H0535"; they are black|strong="H6937" unto the ground|strong="H0776"; and the cry|strong="H6682" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" is gone up|strong="H5927".

And their nobles|strong="H0117" have sent|strong="H7971" their little ones|strong="H6810" to the waters|strong="H4325": they came|strong="H0935" to the pits|strong="H1356", and found|strong="H4672" no water|strong="H4325"; they returned|strong="H7725" with their vessels|strong="H3627" empty|strong="H7387"; they were ashamed|strong="H0954" and confounded|strong="H3637", and covered|strong="H2645" their heads|strong="H7218".

Because the ground|strong="H0127" is chapt|strong="H2865", for there was no rain|strong="H1653" in the earth|strong="H0776", the plowmen|strong="H0406" were ashamed|strong="H0954", they covered|strong="H2645" their heads|strong="H7218".

Yea, the hind|strong="H0365" also calved|strong="H3205" in the field|strong="H7704", and forsook|strong="H5800" it, because there was no grass|strong="H1877".

And the wild asses|strong="H6501" did stand|strong="H5975" in the high places|strong="H8205", they snuffed up|strong="H7602" the wind|strong="H7307" like dragons|strong="H8577"; their eyes|strong="H5869" did fail|strong="H3615", because there was no grass|strong="H6212".

O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, though our iniquities|strong="H5771" testify|strong="H6030" against us, do|strong="H6213" thou it for thy name’s|strong="H8034" sake: for our backslidings|strong="H4878" are many|strong="H7231"; we have sinned|strong="H2398" against thee.

O the hope|strong="H4723" of Israel|strong="H3478", the saviour|strong="H3467" thereof in time|strong="H6256" of trouble|strong="H6869", why shouldest thou be as a stranger|strong="H1616" in the land|strong="H0776", and as a wayfaring man|strong="H0732" that turneth aside|strong="H5186" to tarry for a night|strong="H3885"?

Why shouldest thou be as a man|strong="H0376" astonied|strong="H1724", as a mighty man|strong="H1368" that cannot|strong="H3201" save|strong="H3467"? yet thou, O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, art in the midst|strong="H7130" of us, and we are called|strong="H7121" by thy name|strong="H8034"; leave|strong="H3240" us not.

Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* unto this people|strong="H5971", Thus have they loved|strong="H0157" to wander|strong="H5128", they have not refrained|strong="H2820" their feet|strong="H7272", therefore the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* doth not accept|strong="H7521" them; he will now remember|strong="H2142" their iniquity|strong="H5771", and visit|strong="H6485" their sins|strong="H2403".

Then said|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* unto me, Pray|strong="H6419" not for this people|strong="H5971" for their good|strong="H2896".

When they fast|strong="H6684", I will not hear|strong="H8085" their cry|strong="H7440"; and when they offer|strong="H5927" burnt offering|strong="H5930" and an oblation|strong="H4503", I will not accept|strong="H7521" them: but I will consume|strong="H3615" them by the sword|strong="H2719", and by the famine|strong="H7458", and by the pestilence|strong="H1698".

Then said|strong="H0559" I, Ah|strong="H0162", Lord|strong="H0136" \+w GOD|strong="H3069"\+w*! behold, the prophets|strong="H5030" say|strong="H0559" unto them, Ye shall not see|strong="H7200" the sword|strong="H2719", neither shall ye have famine|strong="H7458"; but I will give|strong="H5414" you assured|strong="H0571" peace|strong="H7965" in this place|strong="H4725".

Then the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto me, The prophets|strong="H5030" prophesy|strong="H5012" lies|strong="H8267" in my name|strong="H8034": I sent|strong="H7971" them not, neither have I commanded|strong="H6680" them, neither spake|strong="H1696" unto them: they prophesy|strong="H5012" unto you a false|strong="H8267" vision|strong="H2377" and divination|strong="H7081", and a thing of nought|strong="H0457", and the deceit|strong="H8649" of their heart|strong="H3820".

Therefore thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* concerning the prophets|strong="H5030" that prophesy|strong="H5012" in my name|strong="H8034", and I sent|strong="H7971" them not, yet they say|strong="H0559", Sword|strong="H2719" and famine|strong="H7458" shall not be in this land|strong="H0776"; By sword|strong="H2719" and famine|strong="H7458" shall those prophets|strong="H5030" be consumed|strong="H8552".

And the people|strong="H5971" to whom they prophesy|strong="H5012" shall be cast out|strong="H7993" in the streets|strong="H2351" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" because|strong="H6440" of the famine|strong="H7458" and the sword|strong="H2719"; and they shall have none to bury|strong="H6912" them|strong="H1992", them, their wives|strong="H0802", nor their sons|strong="H1121", nor their daughters|strong="H1323": for I will pour|strong="H8210" their wickedness|strong="H7451" upon them.

Therefore thou shalt say|strong="H0559" this word|strong="H1697" unto them; Let mine eyes|strong="H5869" run down|strong="H3381" with tears|strong="H1832" night|strong="H3915" and day|strong="H3119", and let them not cease|strong="H1820": for the virgin|strong="H1330" daughter|strong="H1323" of my people|strong="H5971" is broken|strong="H7665" with a great|strong="H1419" breach|strong="H7667", with a very|strong="H3966" grievous|strong="H2470" blow|strong="H4347".

If I go forth|strong="H3318" into the field|strong="H7704", then behold the slain|strong="H2491" with the sword|strong="H2719"! and if I enter|strong="H0935" into the city|strong="H5892", then behold them that are sick|strong="H8463" with famine|strong="H7458"! yea, both the prophet|strong="H5030" and the priest|strong="H3548" go about|strong="H5503" into a land|strong="H0776" that they know|strong="H3045" not.

Hast thou utterly|strong="H3988" rejected|strong="H3988" Judah|strong="H3063"? hath thy soul|strong="H5315" lothed|strong="H1602" Zion|strong="H6726"? why hast thou smitten|strong="H5221" us, and there is no healing|strong="H4832" for us? we looked|strong="H6960" for peace|strong="H7965", and there is no good|strong="H2896"; and for the time|strong="H6256" of healing|strong="H4832", and behold trouble|strong="H1205"!

We acknowledge|strong="H3045", O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, our wickedness|strong="H7562", and the iniquity|strong="H5771" of our fathers|strong="H0001": for we have sinned|strong="H2398" against thee.

Do not abhor|strong="H5006" us, for thy name’s|strong="H8034" sake, do not disgrace|strong="H5034" the throne|strong="H3678" of thy glory|strong="H3519": remember|strong="H2142", break|strong="H6565" not thy covenant|strong="H1285" with us.

Are there|strong="H3426" any among the vanities|strong="H1892" of the Gentiles|strong="H1471" that can cause rain|strong="H1652"? or can the heavens|strong="H8064" give|strong="H5414" showers|strong="H7241"? art not thou he, O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430"? therefore we will wait|strong="H6960" upon thee: for thou hast made|strong="H6213" all these things.
