Isaías 37

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

And it came to pass, when king|strong="H4428" Hezekiah|strong="H2396" heard|strong="H8085" it, that he rent|strong="H7167" his clothes|strong="H0899", and covered|strong="H3680" himself with sackcloth|strong="H8242", and went|strong="H0935" into the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

And he sent|strong="H7971" Eliakim|strong="H0471", who was over the household|strong="H1004", and Shebna|strong="H7644" the scribe|strong="H5608", and the elders|strong="H2205" of the priests|strong="H3548" covered|strong="H3680" with sackcloth|strong="H8242", unto Isaiah|strong="H3470" the prophet|strong="H5030" the son|strong="H1121" of Amoz|strong="H0531".

And they said|strong="H0559" unto him, Thus saith|strong="H0559" Hezekiah|strong="H2396", This day|strong="H3117" is a day|strong="H3117" of trouble|strong="H6869", and of rebuke|strong="H8433", and of blasphemy|strong="H5007": for the children|strong="H1121" are come|strong="H0935" to the birth|strong="H4866", and there is not strength|strong="H3581" to bring forth|strong="H3205".

It may be the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430" will hear|strong="H8085" the words|strong="H1697" of Rabshakeh|strong="H7262", whom the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" his master|strong="H0113" hath sent|strong="H7971" to reproach|strong="H2778" the living|strong="H2416" God|strong="H0430", and will reprove|strong="H3198" the words|strong="H1697" which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* thy God|strong="H0430" hath heard|strong="H8085": wherefore lift up|strong="H5375" thy prayer|strong="H8605" for the remnant|strong="H7611" that is left|strong="H4672".

So the servants|strong="H5650" of king|strong="H4428" Hezekiah|strong="H2396" came|strong="H0935" to Isaiah|strong="H3470".

And Isaiah|strong="H3470" said|strong="H0559" unto them, Thus shall ye say|strong="H0559" unto your master|strong="H0113", Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, Be not afraid|strong="H3372" of|strong="H6440" the words|strong="H1697" that thou hast heard|strong="H8085", wherewith the servants|strong="H5288" of the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" have blasphemed|strong="H1442" me.

Behold, I will send|strong="H5414" a blast|strong="H7307" upon him, and he shall hear|strong="H8085" a rumour|strong="H8052", and return|strong="H7725" to his own land|strong="H0776"; and I will cause him to fall|strong="H5307" by the sword|strong="H2719" in his own land|strong="H0776".

So Rabshakeh|strong="H7262" returned|strong="H7725", and found|strong="H4672" the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" warring|strong="H3898" against Libnah|strong="H3841": for he had heard|strong="H8085" that he was departed|strong="H5265" from Lachish|strong="H3923".

And he heard|strong="H8085" say|strong="H0559" concerning Tirhakah|strong="H8640" king|strong="H4428" of Ethiopia|strong="H3568", He is come forth|strong="H3318" to make war|strong="H3898" with thee. And when he heard|strong="H8085" it, he sent|strong="H7971" messengers|strong="H4397" to Hezekiah|strong="H2396", saying|strong="H0559",

Thus shall ye speak|strong="H0559" to Hezekiah|strong="H2396" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063", saying|strong="H0559", Let not thy God|strong="H0430", in whom thou trustest|strong="H0982", deceive|strong="H5377" thee, saying|strong="H0559", Jerusalem|strong="H3389" shall not be given|strong="H5414" into the hand|strong="H3027" of the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804".

Behold, thou hast heard|strong="H8085" what the kings|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" have done|strong="H6213" to all lands|strong="H0776" by destroying them utterly|strong="H2763"; and shalt thou be delivered|strong="H5337"?

Have the gods|strong="H0430" of the nations|strong="H1471" delivered|strong="H5337" them which my fathers|strong="H0001" have destroyed|strong="H7843", as Gozan|strong="H1470", and Haran|strong="H2771", and Rezeph|strong="H7530", and the children|strong="H1121" of Eden|strong="H5729" which were in Telassar|strong="H8515"?

Where is the king|strong="H4428" of Hamath|strong="H2574", and the king|strong="H4428" of Arphad|strong="H0774", and the king|strong="H4428" of the city|strong="H5892" of Sepharvaim|strong="H5617", Hena|strong="H2012", and Ivah|strong="H5755"?

And Hezekiah|strong="H2396" received|strong="H3947" the letter|strong="H5612" from the hand|strong="H3027" of the messengers|strong="H4397", and read|strong="H7121" it: and Hezekiah|strong="H2396" went up|strong="H5927" unto the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and spread|strong="H6566" it before|strong="H6440" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

And Hezekiah|strong="H2396" prayed|strong="H6419" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, saying|strong="H0559",

O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635", God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478", that dwellest|strong="H3427" between the cherubims|strong="H3742", thou art the God|strong="H0430", even thou alone, of all the kingdoms|strong="H4467" of the earth|strong="H0776": thou hast made|strong="H6213" heaven|strong="H8064" and earth|strong="H0776".

Incline|strong="H5186" thine ear|strong="H0241", O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and hear|strong="H8085"; open|strong="H6491" thine eyes|strong="H5869", O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and see|strong="H7200": and hear|strong="H8085" all the words|strong="H1697" of Sennacherib|strong="H5576", which hath sent|strong="H7971" to reproach|strong="H2778" the living|strong="H2416" God|strong="H0430".

Of a truth|strong="H0551", \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, the kings|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" have laid waste|strong="H2717" all the nations|strong="H0776", and their countries|strong="H0776",

And have cast|strong="H5414" their gods|strong="H0430" into the fire|strong="H0784": for they were no gods|strong="H0430", but the work|strong="H4639" of men’s|strong="H0120" hands|strong="H3027", wood|strong="H6086" and stone|strong="H0068": therefore they have destroyed|strong="H0006" them.

Now therefore, O \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* our God|strong="H0430", save|strong="H3467" us from his hand|strong="H3027", that all the kingdoms|strong="H4467" of the earth|strong="H0776" may know|strong="H3045" that thou art the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, even thou only.

Then Isaiah|strong="H3470" the son|strong="H1121" of Amoz|strong="H0531" sent|strong="H7971" unto Hezekiah|strong="H2396", saying|strong="H0559", Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478", Whereas thou hast prayed|strong="H6419" to me against Sennacherib|strong="H5576" king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804":

This is the word|strong="H1697" which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* hath spoken|strong="H1696" concerning him; The virgin|strong="H1330", the daughter|strong="H1323" of Zion|strong="H6726", hath despised|strong="H0959" thee, and laughed thee to scorn|strong="H3932"; the daughter|strong="H1323" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" hath shaken|strong="H5128" her head|strong="H7218" at thee|strong="H0310".

Whom hast thou reproached|strong="H2778" and blasphemed|strong="H1442"? and against whom hast thou exalted|strong="H7311" thy voice|strong="H6963", and lifted up|strong="H5375" thine eyes|strong="H5869" on high|strong="H4791"? even against the Holy One|strong="H6918" of Israel|strong="H3478".

By|strong="H3027" thy servants|strong="H5650" hast thou reproached|strong="H2778" the Lord|strong="H0136", and hast said|strong="H0559", By the multitude|strong="H7230" of my chariots|strong="H7393" am I come up|strong="H5927" to the height|strong="H4791" of the mountains|strong="H2022", to the sides|strong="H3411" of Lebanon|strong="H3844"; and I will cut down|strong="H3772" the tall|strong="H6967" cedars|strong="H0730" thereof, and the choice|strong="H4005" fir trees|strong="H1265" thereof: and I will enter|strong="H0935" into the height|strong="H4791" of his border|strong="H7093", and the forest|strong="H3293" of his Carmel|strong="H3760".

I have digged|strong="H6979", and drunk|strong="H8354" water|strong="H4325"; and with the sole|strong="H3709" of my feet|strong="H6471" have I dried up|strong="H2717" all the rivers|strong="H2975" of the besieged places|strong="H4693".

Hast thou not heard|strong="H8085" long ago|strong="H7350", how I have done|strong="H6213" it; and of ancient|strong="H6924" times|strong="H3117", that I have formed|strong="H3335" it? now have I brought|strong="H0935" it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste|strong="H7582" defenced|strong="H1219" cities|strong="H5892" into ruinous|strong="H5327" heaps|strong="H1530".

Therefore their inhabitants|strong="H3427" were of small|strong="H7116" power|strong="H3027", they were dismayed|strong="H2865" and confounded|strong="H0954": they were as the grass|strong="H6212" of the field|strong="H7704", and as the green|strong="H3419" herb|strong="H1877", as the grass|strong="H2682" on the housetops|strong="H1406", and as corn blasted|strong="H7709" before|strong="H6440" it be grown up|strong="H7054".

But I know|strong="H3045" thy abode|strong="H3427", and thy going out|strong="H3318", and thy coming in|strong="H0935", and thy rage|strong="H7264" against me.

Because thy rage|strong="H7264" against me, and thy tumult|strong="H7600", is come up|strong="H5927" into mine ears|strong="H0241", therefore will I put|strong="H7760" my hook|strong="H2397" in thy nose|strong="H0639", and my bridle|strong="H4964" in thy lips|strong="H8193", and I will turn thee back|strong="H7725" by the way|strong="H1870" by which thou camest|strong="H0935".

And this shall be a sign|strong="H0226" unto thee, Ye shall eat|strong="H0398" this year|strong="H8141" such as groweth|strong="H5599" of itself; and the second|strong="H8145" year|strong="H8141" that which springeth|strong="H7823" of the same: and in the third|strong="H7992" year|strong="H8141" sow|strong="H2232" ye, and reap|strong="H7114", and plant|strong="H5193" vineyards|strong="H3754", and eat|strong="H0398" the fruit|strong="H6529" thereof.

And the remnant|strong="H7604" that is escaped|strong="H6413" of the house|strong="H1004" of Judah|strong="H3063" shall again|strong="H3254" take root|strong="H8328" downward|strong="H4295", and bear|strong="H6213" fruit|strong="H6529" upward|strong="H4605":

For out of Jerusalem|strong="H3389" shall go forth|strong="H3318" a remnant|strong="H7611", and they that escape|strong="H6413" out of mount|strong="H2022" Zion|strong="H6726": the zeal|strong="H7068" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* of hosts|strong="H6635" shall do|strong="H6213" this.

Therefore thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* concerning the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804", He shall not come|strong="H0935" into this city|strong="H5892", nor shoot|strong="H3384" an arrow|strong="H2671" there, nor come before|strong="H6923" it with shields|strong="H4043", nor cast|strong="H8210" a bank|strong="H5550" against it.

By the way|strong="H1870" that he came|strong="H0935", by the same shall he return|strong="H7725", and shall not come|strong="H0935" into this city|strong="H5892", saith|strong="H5002" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

For I will defend|strong="H1598" this city|strong="H5892" to save|strong="H3467" it for mine own sake, and for my servant|strong="H5650" David’s|strong="H1732" sake.

Then the angel|strong="H4397" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* went forth|strong="H3318", and smote|strong="H5221" in the camp|strong="H4264" of the Assyrians|strong="H0804" a hundred|strong="H3967" and fourscore|strong="H8084" and five|strong="H2568" thousand|strong="H0505": and when they arose early|strong="H7925" in the morning|strong="H1242", behold, they were all dead|strong="H4191" corpses|strong="H6297".

So Sennacherib|strong="H5576" king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" departed|strong="H5265", and went|strong="H3212" and returned|strong="H7725", and dwelt|strong="H3427" at Nineveh|strong="H5210".

And it came to pass, as he was worshipping|strong="H7812" in the house|strong="H1004" of Nisroch|strong="H5268" his god|strong="H0430", that Adrammelech|strong="H0152" and Sharezer|strong="H8272" his sons|strong="H1121" smote|strong="H5221" him with the sword|strong="H2719"; and they escaped|strong="H4422" into the land|strong="H0776" of Armenia|strong="H0780": and Esar-haddon|strong="H0634" his son|strong="H1121" reigned|strong="H4427" in his stead.
