1 And Dinah|strong="H1783" the daughter|strong="H1323" of Leah|strong="H3812", which she bare|strong="H3205" unto Jacob|strong="H3290", went out|strong="H3318" to see|strong="H7200" the daughters|strong="H1323" of the land|strong="H0776".
2 And when Shechem|strong="H7927" the son|strong="H1121" of Hamor|strong="H2544" the Hivite|strong="H2340", prince|strong="H5387" of the country|strong="H0776", saw|strong="H7200" her, he took|strong="H3947" her, and lay|strong="H7901" with her, and defiled her|strong="H6031".
3 And his soul|strong="H5315" clave|strong="H1692" unto Dinah|strong="H1783" the daughter|strong="H1323" of Jacob|strong="H3290", and he loved|strong="H0157" the damsel|strong="H5291", and spake|strong="H1696" kindly|strong="H3820" unto the damsel|strong="H5291".
4 And Shechem|strong="H7927" spake|strong="H0559" unto his father|strong="H0001" Hamor|strong="H2544", saying|strong="H0559", Get|strong="H3947" me this damsel|strong="H3207" to wife|strong="H0802".
5 And Jacob|strong="H3290" heard|strong="H8085" that he had defiled|strong="H2930" Dinah|strong="H1783" his daughter|strong="H1323": now his sons|strong="H1121" were with his cattle|strong="H4735" in the field|strong="H7704": and Jacob|strong="H3290" held his peace|strong="H2790" until they were come|strong="H0935".
6 And Hamor|strong="H2544" the father|strong="H0001" of Shechem|strong="H7927" went out|strong="H3318" unto Jacob|strong="H3290" to commune|strong="H1696" with|strong="H0854" him.
7 And the sons|strong="H1121" of Jacob|strong="H3290" came|strong="H0935" out of the field|strong="H7704" when they heard|strong="H8085" it: and the men|strong="H0582" were grieved|strong="H6087", and they were very|strong="H3966" wroth|strong="H2734", because he had wrought|strong="H6213" folly|strong="H5039" in Israel|strong="H3478" in lying|strong="H7901" with Jacob’s|strong="H3290" daughter|strong="H1323"; which thing ought not to be done|strong="H6213".
8 And Hamor|strong="H2544" communed|strong="H1696" with them, saying|strong="H0559", The soul|strong="H5315" of my son|strong="H1121" Shechem|strong="H7927" longeth|strong="H2836" for your daughter|strong="H1323": I pray you give|strong="H5414" her him to wife|strong="H0802".
9 And make ye marriages|strong="H2859" with us, and give|strong="H5414" your daughters|strong="H1323" unto us, and take|strong="H3947" our daughters|strong="H1323" unto you.
10 And ye shall dwell|strong="H3427" with us: and the land|strong="H0776" shall be|strong="H1961" before you|strong="H6440"; dwell|strong="H3427" and trade|strong="H5503" ye therein, and get you possessions|strong="H0270" therein.
11 And Shechem|strong="H7927" said|strong="H0559" unto her father|strong="H0001" and unto her brethren|strong="H0251", Let me find|strong="H4672" grace|strong="H2580" in your eyes|strong="H5869", and what ye shall say|strong="H0559" unto me I will give|strong="H5414".
12 Ask|strong="H7235" me never so much|strong="H3966" dowry|strong="H4119" and gift|strong="H4976", and I will give|strong="H5414" according as ye shall say|strong="H0559" unto me: but give|strong="H5414" me the damsel|strong="H5291" to wife|strong="H0802".
13 And the sons|strong="H1121" of Jacob|strong="H3290" answered|strong="H6030" Shechem|strong="H7927" and Hamor|strong="H2544" his father|strong="H0001" deceitfully|strong="H4820", and said|strong="H1696", because he had defiled|strong="H2930" Dinah|strong="H1783" their sister|strong="H0269":
14 And they said|strong="H0559" unto them, We cannot|strong="H3808" do|strong="H6213" this thing|strong="H1697", to give|strong="H5414" our sister|strong="H0269" to one|strong="H0376" that is uncircumcised|strong="H6190"; for that were a reproach|strong="H2781" unto us:
15 But in this|strong="H2063" will we consent|strong="H0225" unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male|strong="H2145" of you be circumcised|strong="H4135";
16 Then will we give|strong="H5414" our daughters|strong="H1323" unto you, and we will take|strong="H3947" your daughters|strong="H1323" to us, and we will dwell|strong="H3427" with you, and we will become one|strong="H0259" people|strong="H5971".
17 But if ye will not hearken|strong="H8085" unto us, to be circumcised|strong="H4135"; then will we take|strong="H3947" our daughter|strong="H1323", and we will be gone|strong="H1980".
18 And their words|strong="H1697" pleased|strong="H3190" Hamor|strong="H2544", and Shechem|strong="H7927" Hamor’s|strong="H2544" son|strong="H1121".
19 And the young man|strong="H5288" deferred|strong="H0309" not to do|strong="H6213" the thing|strong="H1697", because he had delight|strong="H2654" in Jacob’s|strong="H3290" daughter|strong="H1323": and he was more honourable|strong="H3513" than all the house|strong="H1004" of his father|strong="H0001".
20 And Hamor|strong="H2544" and Shechem|strong="H7927" his son|strong="H1121" came|strong="H0935" unto the gate|strong="H8179" of their city|strong="H5892", and communed|strong="H1696" with the men|strong="H0582" of their city|strong="H5892", saying|strong="H0559",
21 These men|strong="H0582" are peaceable|strong="H8003" with|strong="H0854" us; therefore let them dwell|strong="H3427" in the land|strong="H0776", and trade|strong="H5503" therein; for the land|strong="H0776", behold, it is large|strong="H7342" enough|strong="H3027" for them|strong="H6440"; let us take|strong="H3947" their daughters|strong="H1323" to us for wives|strong="H0802", and let us give|strong="H5414" them our daughters|strong="H1323".
22 Only herein|strong="H2063" will the men|strong="H0582" consent|strong="H0225" unto us for to dwell|strong="H3427" with us, to be one|strong="H0259" people|strong="H5971", if every male|strong="H2145" among us be circumcised|strong="H4135", as they are circumcised|strong="H4135".
23 Shall not their cattle|strong="H4735" and their substance|strong="H7075" and every beast|strong="H0929" of theirs be ours? only let us consent|strong="H0225" unto them, and they will dwell|strong="H3427" with us.
24 And unto Hamor|strong="H2544" and unto Shechem|strong="H7927" his son|strong="H1121" hearkened|strong="H8085" all that went out|strong="H3318" of the gate|strong="H8179" of his city|strong="H5892"; and every male|strong="H2145" was circumcised|strong="H4135", all that went out|strong="H3318" of the gate|strong="H8179" of his city|strong="H5892".
25 And it came to pass on the third|strong="H7992" day|strong="H3117", when they were sore|strong="H3510", that two|strong="H8147" of the sons|strong="H1121" of Jacob|strong="H3290", Simeon|strong="H8095" and Levi|strong="H3878", Dinah’s|strong="H1783" brethren|strong="H0251", took|strong="H3947" each man|strong="H0376" his sword|strong="H2719", and came|strong="H0935" upon the city|strong="H5892" boldly|strong="H0983", and slew|strong="H2026" all the males|strong="H2145".
26 And they slew|strong="H2026" Hamor|strong="H2544" and Shechem|strong="H7927" his son|strong="H1121" with the edge|strong="H6310" of the sword|strong="H2719", and took|strong="H3947" Dinah|strong="H1783" out|strong="H3947" of Shechem’s|strong="H7927" house|strong="H1004", and went out|strong="H3318".
27 The sons|strong="H1121" of Jacob|strong="H3290" came|strong="H0935" upon the slain|strong="H2491", and spoiled|strong="H0962" the city|strong="H5892", because they had defiled|strong="H2930" their sister|strong="H0269".
28 They took|strong="H3947" their sheep|strong="H6629", and their oxen|strong="H1241", and their asses|strong="H2543", and that which was in the city|strong="H5892", and that which was in the field|strong="H7704",
29 And all their wealth|strong="H2428", and all their little ones|strong="H2945", and their wives|strong="H0802" took they captive|strong="H7617", and spoiled|strong="H0962" even all that was in the house|strong="H1004".
30 And Jacob|strong="H3290" said|strong="H0559" to Simeon|strong="H8095" and Levi|strong="H3878", Ye have troubled|strong="H5916" me to make me to stink|strong="H0887" among the inhabitants|strong="H3427" of the land|strong="H0776", among the Canaanites|strong="H3669" and the Perizzites|strong="H6522": and I being few|strong="H4962" in number|strong="H4557", they shall gather themselves together|strong="H0622" against me, and slay me|strong="H5221"; and I shall be destroyed|strong="H8045", I and my house|strong="H1004".
31 And they said|strong="H0559", Should he deal|strong="H6213" with our sister|strong="H0269" as with an harlot|strong="H2181"?
