1 And when the people|strong="H5971" saw|strong="H7200" that Moses|strong="H4872" delayed|strong="H0954" to come down|strong="H3381" out of the mount|strong="H2022", the people|strong="H5971" gathered themselves together|strong="H6950" unto Aaron|strong="H0175", and said|strong="H0559" unto him, Up|strong="H6965", make|strong="H6213" us gods|strong="H0430", which shall go|strong="H3212" before|strong="H6440" us; for as for this Moses|strong="H4872", the man|strong="H0376" that brought|strong="H5927" us up out of the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714", we wot|strong="H3045" not what is become of him.
2 And Aaron|strong="H0175" said|strong="H0559" unto them, Break off|strong="H6561" the golden|strong="H2091" earrings|strong="H5141", which are in the ears|strong="H0241" of your wives|strong="H0802", of your sons|strong="H1121", and of your daughters|strong="H1323", and bring|strong="H0935" them unto me.
3 And all the people|strong="H5971" brake off|strong="H6561" the golden|strong="H2091" earrings|strong="H5141" which were in their ears|strong="H0241", and brought|strong="H0935" them unto Aaron|strong="H0175".
4 And he received|strong="H3947" them at their hand|strong="H3027", and fashioned|strong="H6696" it with a graving tool|strong="H2747", after he had made|strong="H6213" it a molten|strong="H4541" calf|strong="H5695": and they said|strong="H0559", These be thy gods|strong="H0430", O Israel|strong="H3478", which brought|strong="H5927" thee up out of the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714".
5 And when Aaron|strong="H0175" saw|strong="H7200" it, he built|strong="H1129" an altar|strong="H4196" before|strong="H6440" it; and Aaron|strong="H0175" made proclamation|strong="H7121", and said|strong="H0559", To morrow|strong="H4279" is a feast|strong="H2282" to the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
6 And they rose up early|strong="H7925" on the morrow|strong="H4283", and offered|strong="H5927" burnt offerings|strong="H5930", and brought|strong="H5066" peace offerings|strong="H8002"; and the people|strong="H5971" sat|strong="H3427" down to eat|strong="H0398" and to drink|strong="H8354", and rose up|strong="H6965" to play|strong="H6711".
7 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H1696" unto Moses|strong="H4872", Go|strong="H3212", get thee down|strong="H3381"; for thy people|strong="H5971", which thou broughtest|strong="H5927" out of the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714", have corrupted|strong="H7843" themselves:
8 They have turned|strong="H5493" aside quickly|strong="H4118" out of the way|strong="H1870" which I commanded|strong="H6680" them: they have made|strong="H6213" them a molten|strong="H4541" calf|strong="H5695", and have worshipped|strong="H7812" it, and have sacrificed|strong="H2076" thereunto, and said|strong="H0559", These be thy gods|strong="H0430", O Israel|strong="H3478", which have brought thee up|strong="H5927" out of the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714".
9 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto Moses|strong="H4872", I have seen|strong="H7200" this people|strong="H5971", and, behold, it is a stiffnecked|strong="H7186" people|strong="H5971":
10 Now therefore let me alone|strong="H3240", that my wrath|strong="H0639" may wax hot|strong="H2734" against them, and that I may consume|strong="H3615" them: and I will make|strong="H6213" of thee a great|strong="H1419" nation|strong="H1471".
11 And Moses|strong="H4872" besought|strong="H2470" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* his God|strong="H0430", and said|strong="H0559", \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, why doth thy wrath|strong="H0639" wax hot|strong="H2734" against thy people|strong="H5971", which thou hast brought forth|strong="H3318" out of the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714" with great|strong="H1419" power|strong="H3581", and with a mighty|strong="H2389" hand|strong="H3027"?
12 Wherefore should the Egyptians|strong="H4714" speak|strong="H0559", and say|strong="H0559", For mischief|strong="H7451" did he bring|strong="H3318" them out, to slay|strong="H2026" them in the mountains|strong="H2022", and to consume|strong="H3615" them from the face|strong="H6440" of the earth|strong="H0127"? Turn|strong="H7725" from thy fierce|strong="H2740" wrath|strong="H0639", and repent|strong="H5162" of this evil|strong="H7451" against thy people|strong="H5971".
13 Remember|strong="H2142" Abraham|strong="H0085", Isaac|strong="H3327", and Israel|strong="H3478", thy servants|strong="H5650", to whom thou swarest|strong="H7650" by thine own self, and saidst|strong="H1696" unto them, I will multiply|strong="H7235" your seed|strong="H2233" as the stars|strong="H3556" of heaven|strong="H8064", and all this land|strong="H0776" that I have spoken|strong="H0559" of will I give|strong="H5414" unto your seed|strong="H2233", and they shall inherit|strong="H5157" it for ever|strong="H5769".
14 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* repented|strong="H5162" of the evil|strong="H7451" which he thought|strong="H1696" to do|strong="H6213" unto his people|strong="H5971".
15 And Moses|strong="H4872" turned|strong="H6437", and went down|strong="H3381" from the mount|strong="H2022", and the two|strong="H8147" tables|strong="H3871" of the testimony|strong="H5715" were in his hand|strong="H3027": the tables|strong="H3871" were written|strong="H3789" on both|strong="H8147" their sides|strong="H5676"; on the one side and on the other were they written|strong="H3789".
16 And the tables|strong="H3871" were the work|strong="H4639" of God|strong="H0430", and the writing|strong="H4385" was the writing|strong="H4385" of God|strong="H0430", graven|strong="H2801" upon the tables|strong="H3871".
17 And when Joshua|strong="H3091" heard|strong="H8085" the noise|strong="H6963" of the people|strong="H5971" as they shouted|strong="H7452", he said|strong="H0559" unto Moses|strong="H4872", There is a noise|strong="H6963" of war|strong="H4421" in the camp|strong="H4264".
18 And he said|strong="H0559", It is not the voice|strong="H6963" of them that shout|strong="H6030" for mastery|strong="H1369", neither is it the voice|strong="H6963" of them that cry|strong="H6030" for being overcome|strong="H2476": but the noise|strong="H6963" of them that sing|strong="H6031" do I hear|strong="H8085".
19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh|strong="H7126" unto the camp|strong="H4264", that he saw|strong="H7200" the calf|strong="H5695", and the dancing|strong="H4246": and Moses’|strong="H4872" anger|strong="H0639" waxed hot|strong="H2734", and he cast|strong="H7993" the tables|strong="H3871" out of his hands|strong="H3027", and brake|strong="H7665" them beneath|strong="H8478" the mount|strong="H2022".
20 And he took|strong="H3947" the calf|strong="H5695" which they had made|strong="H6213", and burnt|strong="H8313" it in the fire|strong="H0784", and ground|strong="H2912" it to powder|strong="H1854", and strawed|strong="H2219" it upon|strong="H6440" the water|strong="H4325", and made the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" drink|strong="H8248" of it.
21 And Moses|strong="H4872" said|strong="H0559" unto Aaron|strong="H0175", What did|strong="H6213" this people|strong="H5971" unto thee, that thou hast brought|strong="H0935" so great|strong="H1419" a sin|strong="H2401" upon them?
22 And Aaron|strong="H0175" said|strong="H0559", Let not the anger|strong="H0639" of my lord|strong="H0113" wax hot|strong="H2734": thou knowest|strong="H3045" the people|strong="H5971", that they are set on mischief|strong="H7451".
23 For they said|strong="H0559" unto me, Make|strong="H6213" us gods|strong="H0430", which shall go|strong="H3212" before|strong="H6440" us: for as for this Moses|strong="H4872", the man|strong="H0376" that brought us up|strong="H5927" out of the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714", we wot|strong="H3045" not what is become of him.
24 And I said|strong="H0559" unto them, Whosoever hath any gold|strong="H2091", let them break|strong="H6561" it off. So they gave|strong="H5414" it me: then I cast|strong="H7993" it into the fire|strong="H0784", and there came out|strong="H3318" this calf|strong="H5695".
25 And when Moses|strong="H4872" saw|strong="H7200" that the people|strong="H5971" were naked|strong="H6544"; (for Aaron|strong="H0175" had made them naked|strong="H6544" unto their shame|strong="H8103" among their enemies|strong="H6965":)
26 Then Moses|strong="H4872" stood|strong="H5975" in the gate|strong="H8179" of the camp|strong="H4264", and said|strong="H0559", Who is on the \+w LORD’s|strong="H3068"\+w* side? let him come unto me. And all the sons|strong="H1121" of Levi|strong="H3878" gathered|strong="H0622" themselves together unto him.
27 And he said|strong="H0559" unto them, Thus saith|strong="H0559" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478", Put|strong="H7760" every man|strong="H0376" his sword|strong="H2719" by his side|strong="H3409", and go|strong="H5674" in and out|strong="H7725" from gate|strong="H8179" to gate|strong="H8179" throughout the camp|strong="H4264", and slay|strong="H2026" every man|strong="H0376" his brother|strong="H0251", and every man|strong="H0376" his companion|strong="H7453", and every man|strong="H0376" his neighbour|strong="H7138".
28 And the children|strong="H1121" of Levi|strong="H3878" did|strong="H6213" according to the word|strong="H1697" of Moses|strong="H4872": and there fell|strong="H5307" of the people|strong="H5971" that day|strong="H3117" about three|strong="H7969" thousand|strong="H0505" men|strong="H0376".
29 For Moses|strong="H4872" had said|strong="H0559", Consecrate yourselves|strong="H4390" to day|strong="H3117" to the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, even|strong="H3588" every man|strong="H0376" upon his son|strong="H1121", and upon his brother|strong="H0251"; that he may bestow|strong="H5414" upon you a blessing|strong="H1293" this day|strong="H3117".
30 And it came to pass on the morrow|strong="H4283", that Moses|strong="H4872" said|strong="H0559" unto the people|strong="H5971", Ye have sinned|strong="H2398" a great|strong="H1419" sin|strong="H2401": and now I will go up|strong="H5927" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; peradventure|strong="H0194" I shall make an atonement|strong="H3722" for|strong="H1157" your sin|strong="H2403".
31 And Moses|strong="H4872" returned|strong="H7725" unto the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and said|strong="H0559", Oh|strong="H0577", this people|strong="H5971" have sinned|strong="H2398" a great|strong="H1419" sin|strong="H2401", and have made|strong="H6213" them gods|strong="H0430" of gold|strong="H2091".
32 Yet now, if thou wilt forgive|strong="H5375" their sin|strong="H2403"—; and if not, blot|strong="H4229" me, I pray thee, out of thy book|strong="H5612" which thou hast written|strong="H3789".
33 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* said|strong="H0559" unto Moses|strong="H4872", Whosoever|strong="H0834" hath sinned|strong="H2398" against me, him will I blot out|strong="H4229" of my book|strong="H5612".
34 Therefore now go|strong="H3212", lead|strong="H5148" the people|strong="H5971" unto the place of which I have spoken|strong="H1696" unto thee: behold, mine Angel|strong="H4397" shall go|strong="H3212" before|strong="H6440" thee: nevertheless in the day|strong="H3117" when I visit|strong="H6485" I will visit|strong="H6485" their sin|strong="H2403" upon them.
35 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* plagued|strong="H5062" the people|strong="H5971", because|strong="H0834" they made|strong="H6213" the calf|strong="H5695", which|strong="H0834" Aaron|strong="H0175" made|strong="H6213".
