1 Also I in the first|strong="H0259" year|strong="H8141" of Darius|strong="H1867" the Mede|strong="H4075", even I, stood|strong="H5977" to confirm|strong="H2388" and to strengthen|strong="H4581" him.
2 And now will I shew|strong="H5046" thee the truth|strong="H0571". Behold, there shall stand up|strong="H5975" yet three|strong="H7969" kings|strong="H4428" in Persia|strong="H6539"; and the fourth|strong="H7243" shall be far|strong="H6239" richer|strong="H6238" than they all|strong="H1419": and by his strength|strong="H2393" through his riches|strong="H6239" he shall stir up|strong="H5782" all against the realm|strong="H4438" of Grecia|strong="H3120".
3 And a mighty|strong="H1368" king|strong="H4428" shall stand up|strong="H5975", that shall rule|strong="H4910" with great|strong="H7227" dominion|strong="H4474", and do|strong="H6213" according to his will|strong="H7522".
4 And when he shall stand up|strong="H5975", his kingdom|strong="H4438" shall be broken|strong="H7665", and shall be divided|strong="H2673" toward the four|strong="H0702" winds|strong="H7307" of heaven|strong="H8064"; and not to his posterity|strong="H0319", nor according to his dominion|strong="H4915" which he ruled|strong="H4910": for his kingdom|strong="H4438" shall be plucked up|strong="H5428", even for others|strong="H0312" beside those.
5 And the king|strong="H4428" of the south|strong="H5045" shall be strong|strong="H2388", and one of his princes|strong="H8269"; and he shall be strong|strong="H2388" above him, and have dominion|strong="H4910"; his dominion|strong="H4475" shall be a great|strong="H7227" dominion|strong="H4474".
6 And in the end|strong="H7093" of years|strong="H8141" they shall join themselves together|strong="H2266"; for the king’s|strong="H4428" daughter|strong="H1323" of the south|strong="H5045" shall come|strong="H0935" to the king|strong="H4428" of the north|strong="H6828" to make|strong="H6213" an agreement|strong="H4339": but she shall not retain|strong="H6113" the power|strong="H3581" of the arm|strong="H2220"; neither shall he stand|strong="H5975", nor his arm|strong="H2220": but she shall be given up|strong="H5414", and they that brought|strong="H0935" her, and he that begat|strong="H3205" her, and he that strengthened|strong="H2388" her in these times|strong="H6256".
7 But out of a branch|strong="H5342" of her roots|strong="H8328" shall one stand up|strong="H5975" in his estate|strong="H3653", which shall come|strong="H0935" with an army|strong="H2428", and shall enter|strong="H0935" into the fortress|strong="H4581" of the king|strong="H4428" of the north|strong="H6828", and shall deal|strong="H6213" against them, and shall prevail|strong="H2388":
8 And shall also carry|strong="H0935" captives|strong="H7628" into Egypt|strong="H4714" their gods|strong="H0430", with their princes|strong="H5257", and with their precious|strong="H2532" vessels|strong="H3627" of silver|strong="H3701" and of gold|strong="H2091"; and he shall continue|strong="H5975" more years|strong="H8141" than the king|strong="H4428" of the north|strong="H6828".
9 So the king|strong="H4428" of the south|strong="H5045" shall come|strong="H0935" into his kingdom|strong="H4438", and shall return|strong="H7725" into his own land|strong="H0127".
10 But his sons|strong="H1121" shall be stirred up|strong="H1624", and shall assemble|strong="H0622" a multitude|strong="H1995" of great|strong="H7227" forces|strong="H2428": and one shall certainly|strong="H0935" come|strong="H0935", and overflow|strong="H7857", and pass through|strong="H5674": then shall he return|strong="H7725", and be stirred up|strong="H1624", even to his fortress|strong="H4581".
11 And the king|strong="H4428" of the south|strong="H5045" shall be moved with choler|strong="H4843", and shall come forth|strong="H3318" and fight|strong="H3898" with him, even with the king|strong="H4428" of the north|strong="H6828": and he shall set forth|strong="H5975" a great|strong="H7227" multitude|strong="H1995"; but the multitude|strong="H1995" shall be given|strong="H5414" into his hand|strong="H3027".
12 And when he hath taken away|strong="H5375" the multitude|strong="H1995", his heart|strong="H3824" shall be lifted up|strong="H7311"; and he shall cast down|strong="H5307" many ten thousands|strong="H7239": but he shall not be strengthened|strong="H5810" by it.
13 For the king|strong="H4428" of the north|strong="H6828" shall return|strong="H7725", and shall set forth|strong="H5975" a multitude|strong="H1995" greater|strong="H7227" than the former|strong="H7223", and shall certainly|strong="H0935" come|strong="H0935" after|strong="H7093" certain|strong="H6256" years|strong="H8141" with a great|strong="H1419" army|strong="H2428" and with much|strong="H7227" riches|strong="H7399".
14 And in those times|strong="H6256" there shall many|strong="H7227" stand up|strong="H5975" against the king|strong="H4428" of the south|strong="H5045": also the robbers|strong="H1121" of thy people|strong="H5971" shall exalt|strong="H5375" themselves to establish|strong="H5975" the vision|strong="H2377"; but they shall fall|strong="H3782".
15 So the king|strong="H4428" of the north|strong="H6828" shall come|strong="H0935", and cast up|strong="H8210" a mount|strong="H5550", and take|strong="H3920" the most fenced|strong="H4013" cities|strong="H5892": and the arms|strong="H2220" of the south|strong="H5045" shall not withstand|strong="H5975", neither his chosen|strong="H4005" people|strong="H5971", neither shall there be any strength|strong="H3581" to withstand|strong="H5975".
16 But he that cometh|strong="H0935" against him shall do|strong="H6213" according to his own will|strong="H7522", and none shall stand|strong="H5975" before|strong="H6440" him: and he shall stand|strong="H5975" in the glorious|strong="H6643" land|strong="H0776", which by his hand|strong="H3027" shall be consumed|strong="H3617".
17 He shall also set|strong="H7760" his face|strong="H6440" to enter|strong="H0935" with the strength|strong="H8633" of his whole kingdom|strong="H4438", and upright ones|strong="H3477" with him; thus shall he do|strong="H6213": and he shall give|strong="H5414" him the daughter|strong="H1323" of women|strong="H0802", corrupting|strong="H7843" her: but she shall not stand|strong="H5975" on his side, neither be for him.
18 After this shall he turn|strong="H7760" his face|strong="H6440" unto the isles|strong="H0339", and shall take|strong="H3920" many|strong="H7227": but a prince|strong="H7101" for his own behalf shall cause the reproach|strong="H2781" offered by him to cease|strong="H7673"; without|strong="H1115" his own reproach|strong="H2781" he shall cause it to turn|strong="H7725" upon him.
19 Then he shall turn|strong="H7725" his face|strong="H6440" toward the fort|strong="H4581" of his own land|strong="H0776": but he shall stumble|strong="H3782" and fall|strong="H5307", and not be found|strong="H4672".
20 Then shall stand up|strong="H5975" in his estate|strong="H3653" a raiser|strong="H5674" of taxes|strong="H5065" in the glory|strong="H1925" of the kingdom|strong="H4438": but within few|strong="H0259" days|strong="H3117" he shall be destroyed|strong="H7665", neither in anger|strong="H0639", nor in battle|strong="H4421".
21 And in his estate|strong="H3653" shall stand up|strong="H5975" a vile person|strong="H0959", to whom they shall not give|strong="H5414" the honour|strong="H1935" of the kingdom|strong="H4438": but he shall come|strong="H0935" in peaceably|strong="H7962", and obtain|strong="H2388" the kingdom|strong="H4438" by flatteries|strong="H2519".
22 And with the arms|strong="H2220" of a flood|strong="H7858" shall they be overflown|strong="H7857" from before|strong="H6440" him, and shall be broken|strong="H7665"; yea, also the prince|strong="H5057" of the covenant|strong="H1285".
23 And after the league|strong="H2266" made with him he shall work|strong="H6213" deceitfully|strong="H4820": for he shall come up|strong="H5927", and shall become strong|strong="H6105" with a small|strong="H4592" people|strong="H1471".
24 He shall enter|strong="H0935" peaceably|strong="H7962" even upon the fattest places|strong="H4924" of the province|strong="H4082"; and he shall do|strong="H6213" that which his fathers|strong="H0001" have not done|strong="H6213", nor his fathers’|strong="H0001" fathers|strong="H0001"; he shall scatter|strong="H0967" among them the prey|strong="H0961", and spoil|strong="H7998", and riches|strong="H7399": yea, and he shall forecast|strong="H2803" his devices|strong="H4284" against the strong holds|strong="H4013", even for a time|strong="H6256".
25 And he shall stir up|strong="H5782" his power|strong="H3581" and his courage|strong="H3824" against the king|strong="H4428" of the south|strong="H5045" with a great|strong="H1419" army|strong="H2428"; and the king|strong="H4428" of the south|strong="H5045" shall be stirred up|strong="H1624" to battle|strong="H4421" with a very|strong="H3966" great|strong="H1419" and mighty|strong="H6099" army|strong="H2428"; but he shall not stand|strong="H5975": for they shall forecast|strong="H2803" devices|strong="H4284" against him.
26 Yea, they that feed|strong="H0398" of the portion of his meat|strong="H6598" shall destroy|strong="H7665" him, and his army|strong="H2428" shall overflow|strong="H7857": and many|strong="H7227" shall fall|strong="H5307" down slain|strong="H2491".
27 And both|strong="H8147" these kings’|strong="H4428" hearts|strong="H3824" shall be to do mischief|strong="H4827", and they shall speak|strong="H1696" lies|strong="H3577" at one|strong="H0259" table|strong="H7979"; but it shall not prosper|strong="H6743": for yet the end|strong="H7093" shall be at the time appointed|strong="H4150".
28 Then shall he return|strong="H7725" into his land|strong="H0776" with great|strong="H1419" riches|strong="H7399"; and his heart|strong="H3824" shall be against the holy|strong="H6944" covenant|strong="H1285"; and he shall do|strong="H6213" exploits, and return|strong="H7725" to his own land|strong="H0776".
29 At the time appointed|strong="H4150" he shall return|strong="H7725", and come|strong="H0935" toward the south|strong="H5045"; but it shall not be as the former|strong="H7223", or as the latter|strong="H0314".
30 For the ships|strong="H6716" of Chittim|strong="H3794" shall come|strong="H0935" against him: therefore he shall be grieved|strong="H3512", and return|strong="H7725", and have indignation|strong="H2194" against the holy|strong="H6944" covenant|strong="H1285": so shall he do|strong="H6213"; he shall even return|strong="H7725", and have intelligence|strong="H0995" with them that forsake|strong="H5800" the holy|strong="H6944" covenant|strong="H1285".
31 And arms|strong="H2220" shall stand|strong="H5975" on his part, and they shall pollute|strong="H2490" the sanctuary|strong="H4720" of strength|strong="H4581", and shall take away|strong="H5493" the daily|strong="H8548" sacrifice, and they shall place|strong="H5414" the abomination|strong="H8251" that maketh desolate|strong="H8074".
32 And such as do wickedly|strong="H7561" against the covenant|strong="H1285" shall he corrupt|strong="H2610" by flatteries|strong="H2514": but the people|strong="H5971" that do know|strong="H3045" their God|strong="H0430" shall be strong|strong="H2388", and do|strong="H6213" exploits.
33 And they that understand|strong="H7919" among the people|strong="H5971" shall instruct|strong="H0995" many|strong="H7227": yet they shall fall|strong="H3782" by the sword|strong="H2719", and by flame|strong="H3852", by captivity|strong="H7628", and by spoil|strong="H0961", many days|strong="H3117".
34 Now when they shall fall|strong="H3782", they shall be holpen|strong="H5826" with a little|strong="H4592" help|strong="H5828": but many|strong="H7227" shall cleave|strong="H3867" to them with flatteries|strong="H2519".
35 And some of them of understanding|strong="H7919" shall fall|strong="H3782", to try|strong="H6884" them, and to purge|strong="H1305", and to make them white|strong="H3835", even to the time|strong="H6256" of the end|strong="H7093": because it is yet for a time appointed|strong="H4150".
36 And the king|strong="H4428" shall do|strong="H6213" according to his will|strong="H7522"; and he shall exalt|strong="H7311" himself, and magnify|strong="H1431" himself above every god|strong="H0410", and shall speak|strong="H1696" marvellous things|strong="H6381" against the God|strong="H0410" of gods|strong="H0410", and shall prosper|strong="H6743" till the indignation|strong="H2195" be accomplished|strong="H3615": for that that is determined|strong="H2782" shall be done|strong="H6213".
37 Neither shall he regard|strong="H0995" the God|strong="H0430" of his fathers|strong="H0001", nor the desire|strong="H2532" of women|strong="H0802", nor regard|strong="H0995" any god|strong="H0433": for he shall magnify|strong="H1431" himself above all.
38 But in his estate|strong="H3653" shall he honour|strong="H3513" the God|strong="H0433" of forces|strong="H4581": and a god|strong="H0433" whom his fathers|strong="H0001" knew|strong="H3045" not shall he honour|strong="H3513" with gold|strong="H2091", and silver|strong="H3701", and with precious|strong="H3368" stones|strong="H0068", and pleasant things|strong="H2532".
39 Thus shall he do|strong="H6213" in the most strong|strong="H4581" holds|strong="H4013" with a strange|strong="H5236" god|strong="H0433", whom he shall acknowledge|strong="H5234" and increase|strong="H7235" with glory|strong="H3519": and he shall cause them to rule|strong="H4910" over many|strong="H7227", and shall divide|strong="H2505" the land|strong="H0127" for gain|strong="H4242".
40 And at the time|strong="H6256" of the end|strong="H7093" shall the king|strong="H4428" of the south|strong="H5045" push|strong="H5055" at him: and the king|strong="H4428" of the north|strong="H6828" shall come against him like a whirlwind|strong="H8175", with chariots|strong="H7393", and with horsemen|strong="H6571", and with many|strong="H7227" ships|strong="H0591"; and he shall enter|strong="H0935" into the countries|strong="H0776", and shall overflow|strong="H7857" and pass over|strong="H5674".
41 He shall enter|strong="H0935" also into the glorious|strong="H6643" land|strong="H0776", and many|strong="H7227" countries shall be overthrown|strong="H3782": but these shall escape|strong="H4422" out of his hand|strong="H3027", even Edom|strong="H0123", and Moab|strong="H4124", and the chief|strong="H7225" of the children|strong="H1121" of Ammon|strong="H5983".
42 He shall stretch forth|strong="H7971" his hand|strong="H3027" also upon the countries|strong="H0776": and the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714" shall not escape|strong="H6413".
43 But he shall have power|strong="H4910" over the treasures|strong="H4362" of gold|strong="H2091" and of silver|strong="H3701", and over all the precious|strong="H2532" things of Egypt|strong="H4714": and the Libyans|strong="H3864" and the Ethiopians|strong="H3569" shall be at his steps|strong="H4703".
44 But tidings|strong="H8052" out of the east|strong="H4217" and out of the north|strong="H6828" shall trouble|strong="H0926" him: therefore he shall go forth|strong="H3318" with great|strong="H1419" fury|strong="H2534" to destroy|strong="H8045", and utterly to make away|strong="H2763" many|strong="H7227".
45 And he shall plant|strong="H5193" the tabernacles|strong="H0168" of his palace|strong="H0643" between the seas|strong="H3220" in the glorious|strong="H6643" holy|strong="H6944" mountain|strong="H2022"; yet he shall come|strong="H0935" to his end|strong="H7093", and none shall help|strong="H5826" him.
