2 Reis 17

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

1 In the twelfth|strong="H8147" year|strong="H8141" of Ahaz|strong="H0271" king|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063" began Hoshea|strong="H1954" the son|strong="H1121" of Elah|strong="H0425" to reign|strong="H4427" in Samaria|strong="H8111" over Israel|strong="H3478" nine|strong="H8672" years|strong="H8141".

2 And he did|strong="H6213" that which was evil|strong="H7451" in the sight|strong="H5869" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, but not as the kings|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478" that were before|strong="H6440" him.

3 Against him came up|strong="H5927" Shalmaneser|strong="H8022" king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804"; and Hoshea|strong="H1954" became his servant|strong="H5650", and gave|strong="H7725" him presents|strong="H4503".

4 And the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" found|strong="H4672" conspiracy|strong="H7195" in Hoshea|strong="H1954": for he had sent|strong="H7971" messengers|strong="H4397" to So|strong="H5471" king|strong="H4428" of Egypt|strong="H4714", and brought|strong="H5927" no present|strong="H4503" to the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804", as he had done year|strong="H8141" by year|strong="H8141": therefore the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" shut him up|strong="H6113", and bound|strong="H0631" him in prison|strong="H1004".

5 Then the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" came up|strong="H5927" throughout all the land|strong="H0776", and went up|strong="H5927" to Samaria|strong="H8111", and besieged|strong="H6696" it three|strong="H7969" years|strong="H8141".

6 In the ninth|strong="H8671" year|strong="H8141" of Hoshea|strong="H1954" the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" took|strong="H3920" Samaria|strong="H8111", and carried|strong="H1540" Israel|strong="H3478" away|strong="H1540" into Assyria|strong="H0804", and placed|strong="H3427" them in Halah|strong="H2477" and in Habor|strong="H2249" by the river|strong="H5104" of Gozan|strong="H1470", and in the cities|strong="H5892" of the Medes|strong="H4074".

7 For so it was, that the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" had sinned|strong="H2398" against the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* their God|strong="H0430", which had brought them up|strong="H5927" out of the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714", from under the hand|strong="H3027" of Pharaoh|strong="H6547" king|strong="H4428" of Egypt|strong="H4714", and had feared|strong="H3372" other|strong="H0312" gods|strong="H0430",

8 And walked|strong="H3212" in the statutes|strong="H2708" of the heathen|strong="H1471", whom the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* cast out|strong="H3423" from before|strong="H6440" the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478", and of the kings|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478", which they had made|strong="H6213".

9 And the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" did secretly|strong="H2644" those things|strong="H1697" that were not right against the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* their God|strong="H0430", and they built|strong="H1129" them high places|strong="H1116" in all their cities|strong="H5892", from the tower|strong="H4026" of the watchmen|strong="H5341" to the fenced|strong="H4013" city|strong="H5892".

10 And they set them up|strong="H5324" images|strong="H4676" and groves|strong="H0842" in every high|strong="H1364" hill|strong="H1389", and under every green|strong="H7488" tree|strong="H6086":

11 And there they burnt incense|strong="H6999" in all the high places|strong="H1116", as did the heathen|strong="H1471" whom the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* carried away|strong="H1540" before|strong="H6440" them; and wrought|strong="H6213" wicked|strong="H7451" things|strong="H1697" to provoke the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* to anger|strong="H3707":

12 For they served|strong="H5647" idols|strong="H1544", whereof the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had said|strong="H0559" unto them, Ye shall not do|strong="H6213" this thing|strong="H1697".

13 Yet the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* testified|strong="H5749" against Israel|strong="H3478", and against Judah|strong="H3063", by|strong="H3027" all the prophets|strong="H5030", and by all the seers|strong="H2374", saying|strong="H0559", Turn|strong="H7725" ye from your evil|strong="H7451" ways|strong="H1870", and keep|strong="H8104" my commandments|strong="H4687" and my statutes|strong="H2708", according to all the law|strong="H8451" which I commanded|strong="H6680" your fathers|strong="H0001", and which I sent|strong="H7971" to you by|strong="H3027" my servants|strong="H5650" the prophets|strong="H5030".

14 Notwithstanding they would not hear|strong="H8085", but hardened|strong="H7185" their necks|strong="H6203", like to the neck|strong="H6203" of their fathers|strong="H0001", that did not believe|strong="H0539" in the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* their God|strong="H0430".

15 And they rejected|strong="H3988" his statutes|strong="H2706", and his covenant|strong="H1285" that he made|strong="H3772" with their fathers|strong="H0001", and his testimonies|strong="H5715" which he testified|strong="H5749" against them; and they followed|strong="H3212" vanity|strong="H1892", and became vain|strong="H1891", and went after|strong="H0310" the heathen|strong="H1471" that were round about|strong="H5439" them, concerning whom the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had charged|strong="H6680" them, that they should not do|strong="H6213" like them.

16 And they left|strong="H5800" all the commandments|strong="H4687" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* their God|strong="H0430", and made|strong="H6213" them molten images|strong="H4541", even two|strong="H8147" calves|strong="H5695", and made|strong="H6213" a grove|strong="H0842", and worshipped|strong="H7812" all the host|strong="H6635" of heaven|strong="H8064", and served|strong="H5647" Baal|strong="H1168".

17 And they caused their sons|strong="H1121" and their daughters|strong="H1323" to pass|strong="H5674" through the fire|strong="H0784", and used|strong="H7080" divination|strong="H7081" and enchantments|strong="H5172", and sold|strong="H4376" themselves to do|strong="H6213" evil|strong="H7451" in the sight|strong="H5869" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, to provoke him to anger|strong="H3707".

18 Therefore the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* was very|strong="H3966" angry|strong="H0599" with Israel|strong="H3478", and removed|strong="H5493" them out of his sight|strong="H6440": there was none left|strong="H7604" but the tribe|strong="H7626" of Judah|strong="H3063" only.

19 Also Judah|strong="H3063" kept|strong="H8104" not the commandments|strong="H4687" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* their God|strong="H0430", but walked|strong="H3212" in the statutes|strong="H2708" of Israel|strong="H3478" which they made|strong="H6213".

20 And the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* rejected|strong="H3988" all the seed|strong="H2233" of Israel|strong="H3478", and afflicted|strong="H6031" them, and delivered|strong="H5414" them into the hand|strong="H3027" of spoilers|strong="H8154", until he had cast|strong="H7993" them out of his sight|strong="H6440".

21 For he rent|strong="H7167" Israel|strong="H3478" from the house|strong="H1004" of David|strong="H1732"; and they made Jeroboam|strong="H3379" the son|strong="H1121" of Nebat|strong="H5028" king|strong="H4427": and Jeroboam|strong="H3379" drave|strong="H5080" Israel|strong="H3478" from following|strong="H0310" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and made them sin|strong="H2398" a great|strong="H1419" sin|strong="H2401".

22 For the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" walked|strong="H3212" in all the sins|strong="H2403" of Jeroboam|strong="H3379" which he did|strong="H6213"; they departed|strong="H5493" not from them;

23 Until the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* removed|strong="H5493" Israel|strong="H3478" out of his sight|strong="H6440", as he had said|strong="H1696" by|strong="H3027" all his servants|strong="H5650" the prophets|strong="H5030". So was Israel|strong="H3478" carried away|strong="H1540" out of their own land|strong="H0127" to Assyria|strong="H0804" unto this day|strong="H3117".

24 And the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" brought|strong="H0935" men from Babylon|strong="H0894", and from Cuthah|strong="H3575", and from Ava|strong="H5755", and from Hamath|strong="H2574", and from Sepharvaim|strong="H5617", and placed|strong="H3427" them in the cities|strong="H5892" of Samaria|strong="H8111" instead of the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478": and they possessed|strong="H3423" Samaria|strong="H8111", and dwelt|strong="H3427" in the cities|strong="H5892" thereof.

25 And so it was at the beginning|strong="H8462" of their dwelling|strong="H3427" there, that they feared|strong="H3372" not the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: therefore the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* sent|strong="H7971" lions|strong="H0738" among them, which slew|strong="H2026" some of them.

26 Wherefore they spake|strong="H0559" to the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804", saying|strong="H0559", The nations|strong="H1471" which thou hast removed|strong="H1540", and placed|strong="H3427" in the cities|strong="H5892" of Samaria|strong="H8111", know|strong="H3045" not the manner|strong="H4941" of the God|strong="H0430" of the land|strong="H0776": therefore he hath sent|strong="H7971" lions|strong="H0738" among them, and, behold, they slay|strong="H4191" them, because they know|strong="H3045" not the manner|strong="H4941" of the God|strong="H0430" of the land|strong="H0776".

27 Then the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" commanded|strong="H6680", saying|strong="H0559", Carry|strong="H3212" thither one|strong="H0259" of the priests|strong="H3548" whom ye brought|strong="H1540" from thence; and let them go|strong="H3212" and dwell|strong="H3427" there, and let him teach|strong="H3384" them the manner|strong="H4941" of the God|strong="H0430" of the land|strong="H0776".

28 Then one|strong="H0259" of the priests|strong="H3548" whom they had carried away|strong="H1540" from Samaria|strong="H8111" came|strong="H0935" and dwelt|strong="H3427" in Beth-el|strong="H1008", and taught|strong="H3384" them how they should fear|strong="H3372" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.

29 Howbeit every nation|strong="H1471" made|strong="H6213" gods|strong="H0430" of their own, and put|strong="H3240" them in the houses|strong="H1004" of the high places|strong="H1116" which the Samaritans|strong="H8118" had made|strong="H6213", every nation|strong="H1471" in their cities|strong="H5892" wherein they dwelt|strong="H3427".

30 And the men|strong="H0582" of Babylon|strong="H0894" made|strong="H6213" Succoth-benoth|strong="H5524", and the men|strong="H0582" of Cuth|strong="H3575" made|strong="H6213" Nergal|strong="H5370", and the men|strong="H0582" of Hamath|strong="H2574" made|strong="H6213" Ashima|strong="H0807",

31 And the Avites|strong="H5757" made|strong="H6213" Nibhaz|strong="H5026" and Tartak|strong="H8662", and the Sepharvites|strong="H5616" burnt|strong="H8313" their children|strong="H1121" in fire|strong="H0784" to Adrammelech|strong="H0152" and Anammelech|strong="H6048", the gods|strong="H0430" of Sepharvaim|strong="H5617".

32 So they feared|strong="H3373" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and made|strong="H6213" unto themselves of the lowest|strong="H7098" of them priests|strong="H3548" of the high places|strong="H1116", which sacrificed|strong="H6213" for them in the houses|strong="H1004" of the high places|strong="H1116".

33 They feared|strong="H3373" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and served|strong="H5647" their own gods|strong="H0430", after the manner|strong="H4941" of the nations|strong="H1471" whom they carried away|strong="H1540" from thence.

34 Unto this day|strong="H3117" they do|strong="H6213" after the former|strong="H7223" manners|strong="H4941": they fear|strong="H3373" not the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, neither do|strong="H6213" they after their statutes|strong="H2708", or after their ordinances|strong="H4941", or after the law|strong="H8451" and commandment|strong="H4687" which the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* commanded|strong="H6680" the children|strong="H1121" of Jacob|strong="H3290", whom he named|strong="H7760" Israel|strong="H3478";

35 With whom the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had made|strong="H3772" a covenant|strong="H1285", and charged|strong="H6680" them, saying|strong="H0559", Ye shall not fear|strong="H3372" other|strong="H0312" gods|strong="H0430", nor bow|strong="H7812" yourselves to them, nor serve|strong="H5647" them, nor sacrifice|strong="H2076" to them:

36 But the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, who brought you up|strong="H5927" out of the land|strong="H0776" of Egypt|strong="H4714" with great|strong="H1419" power|strong="H3581" and a stretched out|strong="H5186" arm|strong="H2220", him shall ye fear|strong="H3372", and him shall ye worship|strong="H7812", and to him shall ye do sacrifice|strong="H2076".

37 And the statutes|strong="H2706", and the ordinances|strong="H4941", and the law|strong="H8451", and the commandment|strong="H4687", which he wrote|strong="H3789" for you, ye shall observe|strong="H8104" to do|strong="H6213" for evermore|strong="H3117"; and ye shall not fear|strong="H3372" other|strong="H0312" gods|strong="H0430".

38 And the covenant|strong="H1285" that I have made|strong="H3772" with you ye shall not forget|strong="H7911"; neither shall ye fear|strong="H3372" other|strong="H0312" gods|strong="H0430".

39 But the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* your God|strong="H0430" ye shall fear|strong="H3372"; and he shall deliver|strong="H5337" you out of the hand|strong="H3027" of all your enemies|strong="H0341".

40 Howbeit they did not hearken|strong="H8085", but they did|strong="H6213" after their former|strong="H7223" manner|strong="H4941".

41 So these nations|strong="H1471" feared|strong="H3373" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and served|strong="H5647" their graven images|strong="H6456", both their children|strong="H1121", and their children’s|strong="H1121" children|strong="H1121": as did|strong="H6213" their fathers|strong="H0001", so do|strong="H6213" they unto this day|strong="H3117".
