1 Ahaz|strong="H0271" was twenty|strong="H6242" years|strong="H8141" old|strong="H1121" when he began to reign|strong="H4427", and he reigned|strong="H4427" sixteen|strong="H8337" years|strong="H8141" in Jerusalem|strong="H3389": but he did|strong="H6213" not that which was right|strong="H3477" in the sight|strong="H5869" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, like David|strong="H1732" his father|strong="H0001":
2 For he walked in|strong="H3212" the ways|strong="H1870" of the kings|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478", and made|strong="H6213" also molten images|strong="H4541" for Baalim|strong="H1168".
3 Moreover he burnt incense|strong="H6999" in the valley|strong="H1516" of the son|strong="H1121" of Hinnom|strong="H2011", and burnt|strong="H1197" his children|strong="H1121" in the fire|strong="H0784", after the abominations|strong="H8441" of the heathen|strong="H1471" whom the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* had cast out|strong="H3423" before|strong="H6440" the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478".
4 He sacrificed|strong="H2076" also and burnt incense|strong="H6999" in the high places|strong="H1116", and on the hills|strong="H1389", and under every green|strong="H7488" tree|strong="H6086".
5 Wherefore the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* his God|strong="H0430" delivered|strong="H5414" him into the hand|strong="H3027" of the king|strong="H4428" of Syria|strong="H0758"; and they smote|strong="H5221" him, and carried away|strong="H7617" a great multitude|strong="H1419" of them captives|strong="H7633", and brought|strong="H0935" them to Damascus|strong="H1834". And he was also delivered|strong="H5414" into the hand|strong="H3027" of the king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478", who smote|strong="H5221" him with a great|strong="H1419" slaughter|strong="H4347".
6 For Pekah|strong="H6492" the son|strong="H1121" of Remaliah|strong="H7425" slew|strong="H2026" in Judah|strong="H3063" an hundred|strong="H3967" and twenty|strong="H6242" thousand|strong="H0505" in one|strong="H0259" day|strong="H3117", which were all valiant|strong="H2428" men|strong="H1121"; because they had forsaken|strong="H5800" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of their fathers|strong="H0001".
7 And Zichri|strong="H2147", a mighty man|strong="H1368" of Ephraim|strong="H0669", slew|strong="H2026" Maaseiah|strong="H4641" the king’s|strong="H4428" son|strong="H1121", and Azrikam|strong="H5840" the governor|strong="H5057" of the house|strong="H1004", and Elkanah|strong="H0511" that was next|strong="H4932" to the king|strong="H4428".
8 And the children|strong="H1121" of Israel|strong="H3478" carried away captive|strong="H7617" of their brethren|strong="H0251" two hundred|strong="H3967" thousand|strong="H0505", women|strong="H0802", sons|strong="H1121", and daughters|strong="H1323", and took also away|strong="H0962" much|strong="H7227" spoil|strong="H7998" from them, and brought|strong="H0935" the spoil|strong="H7998" to Samaria|strong="H8111".
9 But a prophet|strong="H5030" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* was there, whose name|strong="H8034" was Oded|strong="H5752": and he went out|strong="H3318" before|strong="H6440" the host|strong="H6635" that came|strong="H0935" to Samaria|strong="H8111", and said|strong="H0559" unto them, Behold, because the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of your fathers|strong="H0001" was wroth|strong="H2534" with Judah|strong="H3063", he hath delivered|strong="H5414" them into your hand|strong="H3027", and ye have slain|strong="H2026" them in a rage|strong="H2197" that reacheth up|strong="H5060" unto heaven|strong="H8064".
10 And now ye purpose|strong="H0559" to keep under|strong="H3533" the children|strong="H1121" of Judah|strong="H3063" and Jerusalem|strong="H3389" for bondmen|strong="H5650" and bondwomen|strong="H8198" unto you: but are there not with you, even|strong="H7535" with you, sins|strong="H0819" against the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* your God|strong="H0430"?
11 Now hear|strong="H8085" me therefore, and deliver|strong="H7725" the captives|strong="H7633" again, which ye have taken captive|strong="H7617" of your brethren|strong="H0251": for the fierce|strong="H2740" wrath|strong="H0639" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* is upon you.
12 Then certain|strong="H0582" of the heads|strong="H7218" of the children|strong="H1121" of Ephraim|strong="H0669", Azariah|strong="H5838" the son|strong="H1121" of Johanan|strong="H3076", Berechiah|strong="H1296" the son|strong="H1121" of Meshillemoth|strong="H4919", and Jehizkiah|strong="H3169" the son|strong="H1121" of Shallum|strong="H7967", and Amasa|strong="H6021" the son|strong="H1121" of Hadlai|strong="H2311", stood up|strong="H6965" against them that came|strong="H0935" from the war|strong="H6635",
13 And said|strong="H0559" unto them, Ye shall not bring in|strong="H0935" the captives|strong="H7633" hither: for whereas we have offended|strong="H0819" against the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* already, ye intend|strong="H0559" to add|strong="H3254" more to our sins|strong="H2403" and to our trespass|strong="H0819": for our trespass|strong="H0819" is great|strong="H7227", and there is fierce|strong="H2740" wrath|strong="H0639" against Israel|strong="H3478".
14 So the armed men|strong="H2502" left|strong="H5800" the captives|strong="H7633" and the spoil|strong="H0961" before|strong="H6440" the princes|strong="H8269" and all the congregation|strong="H6951".
15 And the men|strong="H0582" which were expressed|strong="H5344" by name|strong="H8034" rose up|strong="H6965", and took|strong="H2388" the captives|strong="H7633", and with the spoil|strong="H7998" clothed|strong="H3847" all that were naked|strong="H4636" among them, and arrayed|strong="H3847" them, and shod|strong="H5274" them, and gave them to eat|strong="H0398" and to drink|strong="H8248", and anointed|strong="H5480" them, and carried|strong="H5095" all the feeble|strong="H3782" of them upon asses|strong="H2543", and brought|strong="H0935" them to Jericho|strong="H3405", the city|strong="H5892" of palm trees|strong="H8558", to|strong="H0681" their brethren|strong="H0251": then they returned|strong="H7725" to Samaria|strong="H8111".
16 At that time|strong="H6256" did king|strong="H4428" Ahaz|strong="H0271" send|strong="H7971" unto the kings|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" to help|strong="H5826" him.
17 For again the Edomites|strong="H0130" had come|strong="H0935" and smitten|strong="H5221" Judah|strong="H3063", and carried away|strong="H7617" captives|strong="H7628".
18 The Philistines|strong="H6430" also had invaded|strong="H6584" the cities|strong="H5892" of the low country|strong="H8219", and of the south|strong="H5045" of Judah|strong="H3063", and had taken|strong="H3920" Beth-shemesh|strong="H1053", and Ajalon|strong="H0357", and Gederoth|strong="H1450", and Shocho|strong="H7755" with the villages|strong="H1323" thereof, and Timnah|strong="H8553" with the villages|strong="H1323" thereof, Gimzo|strong="H1579" also and the villages|strong="H1323" thereof: and they dwelt|strong="H3427" there.
19 For the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* brought|strong="H3665" Judah|strong="H3063" low|strong="H3665" because of Ahaz|strong="H0271" king|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478"; for he made|strong="H6544" Judah|strong="H3063" naked|strong="H6544", and transgressed|strong="H4603" sore|strong="H4604" against the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*.
20 And Tilgath-pilneser|strong="H8407" king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804" came|strong="H0935" unto him, and distressed|strong="H6696" him, but strengthened|strong="H2388" him not.
21 For Ahaz|strong="H0271" took away a portion|strong="H2505" out of the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and out of the house|strong="H1004" of the king|strong="H4428", and of the princes|strong="H8269", and gave|strong="H5414" it unto the king|strong="H4428" of Assyria|strong="H0804": but he helped|strong="H5833" him not.
22 And in the time|strong="H6256" of his distress|strong="H6887" did he trespass|strong="H4603" yet more|strong="H3254" against the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*: this is that king|strong="H4428" Ahaz|strong="H0271".
23 For he sacrificed|strong="H2076" unto the gods|strong="H0430" of Damascus|strong="H1834", which smote|strong="H5221" him: and he said|strong="H0559", Because the gods|strong="H0430" of the kings|strong="H4428" of Syria|strong="H0758" help|strong="H5826" them, therefore will I sacrifice|strong="H2076" to them, that they may help|strong="H5826" me. But they were the ruin|strong="H3782" of him, and of all Israel|strong="H3478".
24 And Ahaz|strong="H0271" gathered together|strong="H0622" the vessels|strong="H3627" of the house|strong="H1004" of God|strong="H0430", and cut in pieces|strong="H7112" the vessels|strong="H3627" of the house|strong="H1004" of God|strong="H0430", and shut up|strong="H5462" the doors|strong="H1817" of the house|strong="H1004" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*, and he made|strong="H6213" him altars|strong="H4196" in every corner|strong="H6438" of Jerusalem|strong="H3389".
25 And in every several city|strong="H5892" of Judah|strong="H3063" he made|strong="H6213" high places|strong="H1116" to burn incense|strong="H6999" unto other|strong="H0312" gods|strong="H0430", and provoked to anger|strong="H3707" the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* God|strong="H0430" of his fathers|strong="H0001".
26 Now the rest|strong="H3499" of his acts|strong="H1697" and of all his ways|strong="H1870", first|strong="H7223" and last|strong="H0314", behold, they are written|strong="H3789" in the book|strong="H5612" of the kings|strong="H4428" of Judah|strong="H3063" and Israel|strong="H3478".
27 And Ahaz|strong="H0271" slept|strong="H7901" with his fathers|strong="H0001", and they buried|strong="H6912" him in the city|strong="H5892", even in Jerusalem|strong="H3389": but they brought|strong="H0935" him not into the sepulchres|strong="H6913" of the kings|strong="H4428" of Israel|strong="H3478": and Hezekiah|strong="H3169" his son|strong="H1121" reigned|strong="H4427" in his stead.
