Samuel 5

King James (Authorized) Version (ENG-KJV2006)

And the Philistines|strong="H6430" took|strong="H3947" the ark|strong="H0727" of God|strong="H0430", and brought|strong="H0935" it from Eben-ezer|strong="H0072" unto Ashdod|strong="H0795".

When the Philistines|strong="H6430" took|strong="H3947" the ark|strong="H0727" of God|strong="H0430", they brought|strong="H0935" it into the house|strong="H1004" of Dagon|strong="H1712", and set|strong="H3322" it by|strong="H0681" Dagon|strong="H1712".

And when they of Ashdod|strong="H0796" arose early|strong="H7925" on the morrow|strong="H4283", behold, Dagon|strong="H1712" was fallen|strong="H5307" upon his face|strong="H6440" to the earth|strong="H0776" before|strong="H6440" the ark|strong="H0727" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*. And they took|strong="H3947" Dagon|strong="H1712", and set|strong="H7725" him in his place|strong="H4725" again|strong="H7725".

And when they arose early|strong="H7925" on the morrow|strong="H4283" morning|strong="H1242", behold, Dagon|strong="H1712" was fallen|strong="H5307" upon his face|strong="H6440" to the ground|strong="H0776" before|strong="H6440" the ark|strong="H0727" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w*; and the head|strong="H7218" of Dagon|strong="H1712" and both|strong="H8147" the palms|strong="H3709" of his hands|strong="H3027" were cut off|strong="H3772" upon the threshold|strong="H4670"; only the stump of Dagon|strong="H1712" was left|strong="H7604" to him.

Therefore neither the priests|strong="H3548" of Dagon|strong="H1712", nor any that come|strong="H0935" into Dagon’s|strong="H1712" house|strong="H1004", tread|strong="H1869" on the threshold|strong="H4670" of Dagon|strong="H1712" in Ashdod|strong="H0795" unto this day|strong="H3117".

But the hand|strong="H3027" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* was heavy|strong="H3513" upon them of Ashdod|strong="H0796", and he destroyed|strong="H8074" them, and smote|strong="H5221" them with emerods|strong="H2914", even Ashdod|strong="H0795" and the coasts|strong="H1366" thereof.

And when the men|strong="H0582" of Ashdod|strong="H0795" saw|strong="H7200" that it was so, they said|strong="H0559", The ark|strong="H0727" of the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478" shall not abide|strong="H3427" with us: for his hand|strong="H3027" is sore|strong="H7185" upon us, and upon Dagon|strong="H1712" our god|strong="H0430".

They sent|strong="H7971" therefore and gathered|strong="H0622" all the lords|strong="H5633" of the Philistines|strong="H6430" unto them, and said|strong="H0559", What shall we do|strong="H6213" with the ark|strong="H0727" of the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478"? And they answered|strong="H0559", Let the ark|strong="H0727" of the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478" be carried about|strong="H5437" unto Gath|strong="H1661". And they carried|strong="H5437" the ark|strong="H0727" of the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478" about|strong="H5437" thither.

And it was so, that, after|strong="H0310" they had carried it about|strong="H5437", the hand|strong="H3027" of the \+w LORD|strong="H3068"\+w* was against the city|strong="H5892" with a very|strong="H3966" great|strong="H1419" destruction|strong="H4103": and he smote|strong="H5221" the men|strong="H0582" of the city|strong="H5892", both small|strong="H6996" and great|strong="H1419", and they had emerods|strong="H2914" in their secret parts|strong="H8368".

Therefore they sent|strong="H7971" the ark|strong="H0727" of God|strong="H0430" to Ekron|strong="H6138". And it came to pass, as the ark|strong="H0727" of God|strong="H0430" came|strong="H0935" to Ekron|strong="H6138", that the Ekronites|strong="H6139" cried out|strong="H2199", saying|strong="H0559", They have brought about|strong="H5437" the ark|strong="H0727" of the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478" to us, to slay|strong="H4191" us and our people|strong="H5971".

So they sent|strong="H7971" and gathered together|strong="H0622" all the lords|strong="H5633" of the Philistines|strong="H6430", and said|strong="H0559", Send away|strong="H7971" the ark|strong="H0727" of the God|strong="H0430" of Israel|strong="H3478", and let it go again|strong="H7725" to his own place|strong="H4725", that it slay|strong="H4191" us not, and our people|strong="H5971": for there was a deadly|strong="H4194" destruction|strong="H4103" throughout all the city|strong="H5892"; the hand|strong="H3027" of God|strong="H0430" was very|strong="H3966" heavy|strong="H3513" there.

And the men|strong="H0582" that died|strong="H4191" not were smitten|strong="H5221" with the emerods|strong="H2914": and the cry|strong="H7775" of the city|strong="H5892" went up|strong="H5927" to heaven|strong="H8064".
