¹ To the Overseer. -- A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O Jehovah, from an evil man, From one of violence Thou keepest me.

¹ Livra-me, ó Senhor , do homem mau; guarda-me do homem violento;

² Who have devised evils in the heart, All the day they assemble [for] wars.

² os quais pensam o mal no coração; continuamente se ajuntam para a guerra.

³ They sharpened their tongue as a serpent, Poison of an adder [is] under their lips. Selah.

³ Aguçaram a língua como a serpente; o veneno das víboras está debaixo dos seus lábios. (Selá)

⁴ Preserve me, Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked, From one of violence Thou keepest me, Who have devised to overthrow my steps.

⁴ Guarda-me, ó Senhor , das mãos do ímpio e guarda-me do homem violento, os quais se propuseram desviar os meus passos.

⁵ The proud hid a snare for me -- and cords, They spread a net by the side of the path, Snares they have set for me. Selah.

⁵ Os soberbos armaram-me laços e cordas; estenderam a rede à beira do caminho; armaram-me laços corrediços. (Selá)

⁶ I have said to Jehovah, `My God [art] Thou, Hear, Jehovah, the voice of my supplications.`

⁶ Eu disse ao Senhor : tu és o meu Deus; ouve a voz das minhas súplicas, ó Senhor .

⁷ O Jehovah, my Lord, strength of my salvation, Thou hast covered my head in the day of armour.

⁷ Senhor Deus, fortaleza da minha salvação, tu cobriste a minha cabeça no dia da batalha.

⁸ Grant not, O Jehovah, the desires of the wicked, His wicked device bring not forth, They are high. Selah.

⁸ Não cumpras, ó Senhor , ao ímpio os seus desejos; não deixes ir por diante o seu mau propósito, para que não se exalte. (Selá)

⁹ The chief of my surrounders, The perverseness of their lips covereth them.

⁹ Quanto aos que, cercando-me, levantam a cabeça, cubra-os a maldade dos seus lábios.

¹⁰ They cause to fall on themselves burning coals, Into fire He doth cast them, Into deep pits -- they arise not.

¹⁰ Caiam sobre eles brasas vivas, sejam lançados no fogo em covas profundas, para que se não tornem a levantar.

¹¹ A talkative man is not established in the earth, One of violence -- evil hunteth to overflowing.

¹¹ Não terá firmeza na terra o homem de má língua; o mal perseguirá o homem violento, até que seja desterrado.

¹² I have known that Jehovah doth execute The judgment of the afflicted, The judgment of the needy.

¹² Sei que o Senhor sustentará a causa do oprimido e o direito do necessitado.

¹³ Only -- the righteous give thanks to Thy name, The upright do dwell with Thy presence!

¹³ Assim, os justos louvarão o teu nome; os retos habitarão na tua presença.
