Neemias 6

1 And it cometh to pass, when it hath been heard by Sanballat, and Tobiah, and by Geshem the Arabian, and by the rest of our enemies, that I have builded the wall, and there hath not been left in it a breach, (also, till that time the doors I had not set up in the gates,)
1 Tendo ouvido Sambalate, Tobias, Gesém, o arábio, e o resto dos nossos inimigos que eu tinha edificado o muro e que nele já não havia brecha nenhuma, ainda que até este tempo não tinha posto as portas nos portais,
2 that Sanballat sendeth, also Geshem, unto me, saying, `Come and we meet together in the villages, in the valley of Ono;` and they are thinking to do to me evil.
2 Sambalate e Gesém mandaram dizer-me: Vem, encontremo-nos, nas aldeias, no vale de Ono. Porém intentavam fazer-me mal.
3 And I send unto them messengers, saying, `A great work I am doing, and I am not able to come down; why doth the work cease when I let it alone, and have come down unto you?`
3 Enviei-lhes mensageiros a dizer: Estou fazendo grande obra, de modo que não poderei descer; por que cessaria a obra, enquanto eu a deixasse e fosse ter convosco?
4 and they send unto me, according to this word, four times, and I return them [word] according to this word.
4 Quatro vezes me enviaram o mesmo pedido; eu, porém, lhes dei sempre a mesma resposta.
5 And Sanballat sendeth unto me, according to this word, a fifth time, his servant, and an open letter in his hand;
5 Então, Sambalate me enviou pela quinta vez o seu moço, o qual trazia na mão uma carta aberta,
6 it is written in it, `Among the nations it hath been heard, and Gashmu is saying: Thou and the Jews are thinking to rebel, therefore thou art building the wall, and thou hast been to them for a king -- according to these words!
6 do teor seguinte: Entre as gentes se ouviu, e Gesém diz que tu e os judeus intentais revoltar-vos; por isso, reedificas o muro, e, segundo se diz, queres ser o rei deles,
7 And also, prophets thou hast appointed to call for thee in Jerusalem, saying, A king [is] in Judah, and now it is heard by the king according to these words; and now come, and we take counsel together.`
7 e puseste profetas para falarem a teu respeito em Jerusalém, dizendo: Este é rei em Judá. Ora, o rei ouvirá isso, segundo essas palavras. Vem, pois, agora, e consultemos juntamente.
8 And I send unto him, saying, `It hath not been according to these words that thou art saying, for from thine own heart thou art devising them;`
8 Mandei dizer-lhe: De tudo o que dizes coisa nenhuma sucedeu; tu, do teu coração, é que o inventas.
9 for all of them are making us afraid, saying, `Their hands are too feeble for the work, and it is not done;` and now, strengthen Thou my hands.
9 Porque todos eles procuravam atemorizar-nos, dizendo: As suas mãos largarão a obra, e não se efetuará. Agora, pois, ó Deus, fortalece as minhas mãos.
10 And I have entered the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah, son of Mehetabeel -- and he is restrained -- and he saith, `Let us meet at the house of God, at the inside of the temple, and we shut the doors of the temple, for they are coming in to slay thee -- yea, by night they are coming in to slay thee.`
10 Tendo eu ido à casa de Semaías, filho de Delaías, filho de Meetabel (que estava encerrado), disse ele: Vamos juntamente à Casa de Deus, ao meio do templo, e fechemos as portas do templo; porque virão matar-te; aliás, de noite virão matar-te.
11 And I say, `A man such as I -- doth he flee? and who as I, that doth go in unto the temple, and live? -- I do not go in.`
11 Porém eu disse: homem como eu fugiria? E quem há, como eu, que entre no templo para que viva? De maneira nenhuma entrarei.
12 And I discern, and lo, God hath not sent him, for in the prophecy he hath spoken unto me both Tobiah and Sanballat hired him,
12 Então, percebi que não era Deus quem o enviara; tal profecia falou ele contra mim, porque Tobias e Sambalate o subornaram.
13 so that he [is] an hireling, that I may fear and do so, and I had sinned, and it had been to them for an evil name that they may reproach me.
13 Para isto o subornaram, para me atemorizar, e para que eu, assim, viesse a proceder e a pecar, para que tivessem motivo de me infamar e me vituperassem.
14 Be mindful, O my God, of Tobiah, and of Sanballat, according to these his works, and also, of Noadiah the prophetess, and of the rest of the prophets who have been making me afraid.
14 Lembra-te, meu Deus, de Tobias e de Sambalate, no tocante a estas suas obras, e também da profetisa Noadia e dos mais profetas que procuraram atemorizar-me.
15 And the wall is completed in the twenty and fifth of Elul, on the fifty and second day;
15 Acabou-se, pois, o muro aos vinte e cinco dias do mês de elul, em cinquenta e dois dias.
16 and it cometh to pass, when all our enemies have heard, and all the nations who are round about us see, that they fall greatly in their own eyes, and know that by our God hath this work been done.
16 Sucedeu que, ouvindo-o todos os nossos inimigos, temeram todos os gentios nossos circunvizinhos e decaíram muito no seu próprio conceito; porque reconheceram que por intervenção de nosso Deus é que fizemos esta obra.
17 Also, in those days the freemen of Judah are multiplying their letters going unto Tobiah, and those of Tobiah are coming in unto them;
17 Também naqueles dias alguns nobres de Judá escreveram muitas cartas, que iam para Tobias, e cartas de Tobias vinham para eles.
18 for many in Judah are sworn to him, for he [is] son-in-law to Shechaniah son of Arah, and Jehohanan his son hath taken the daughter of Meshullam son of Berechiah;
18 Pois muitos em Judá lhe eram ajuramentados porque era genro de Secanias, filho de Ará; e seu filho Joanã se casara com a filha de Mesulão, filho de Berequias.
19 also, his good deeds they have been saying before me, and my words they have been taking out to him; letters hath Tobiah sent to make me afraid.
19 Também das suas boas ações falavam na minha presença, e as minhas palavras lhe levavam a ele; Tobias escrevia cartas para me atemorizar.
