1 And there is a great cry of the people and their wives, concerning their brethren the Jews,
1 Foi grande, porém, o clamor do povo e de suas mulheres contra os judeus, seus irmãos.
2 yea, there are who are saying, `Our sons, and our daughters, we -- are many, and we receive corn, and eat, and live.`
2 Porque havia os que diziam: Somos muitos, nós, nossos filhos e nossas filhas; que se nos dê trigo, para que comamos e vivamos.
3 And there are who are saying, `Our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses, we are pledging, and we receive corn for the famine.`
3 Também houve os que diziam: As nossas terras, as nossas vinhas e as nossas casas hipotecamos para tomarmos trigo nesta fome.
4 And there are who are saying, `We have borrowed money for the tribute of the king, [on] our fields, and our vineyards;
4 Houve ainda os que diziam: Tomamos dinheiro emprestado até para o tributo do rei, sobre as nossas terras e as nossas vinhas.
5 and now, as the flesh of our brethren [is] our flesh, as their sons [are] our sons, and lo, we are subduing our sons and our daughters for servants, and there are of our daughters subdued, and our hand hath no might, and our fields and our vineyards [are] to others.`
5 No entanto, nós somos da mesma carne como eles, e nossos filhos são tão bons como os deles; e eis que sujeitamos nossos filhos e nossas filhas para serem escravos, algumas de nossas filhas já estão reduzidas à escravidão. Não está em nosso poder evitá-lo; pois os nossos campos e as nossas vinhas já são de outros.
6 And it is very displeasing to me when I have heard their cry and these words,
6 Ouvindo eu, pois, o seu clamor e estas palavras, muito me aborreci.
7 and my heart reigneth over me, and I strive with the freemen, and with the prefects, and say to them, `Usury one upon another ye are exacting;` and I set against them a great assembly,
7 Depois de ter considerado comigo mesmo, repreendi os nobres e magistrados e lhes disse: Sois usurários, cada um para com seu irmão; e convoquei contra eles um grande ajuntamento.
8 and say to them, `We have acquired our brethren the Jews, those sold to the nations, according to the ability that [is] in us, and ye also sell your brethren, and they have been sold to us!` and they are silent, and have not found a word.
8 Disse-lhes: nós resgatamos os judeus, nossos irmãos, que foram vendidos às gentes, segundo nossas posses; e vós outra vez negociaríeis vossos irmãos, para que sejam vendidos a nós?
9 And I say, `Not good [is] the thing that ye are doing; in the fear of our God do ye not walk, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?
9 Então, se calaram e não acharam o que responder. Disse mais: não é bom o que fazeis; porventura não devíeis andar no temor do nosso Deus, por causa do opróbrio dos gentios, os nossos inimigos?
10 And also, I, my brethren, and my servants, are exacting of them silver and corn; let us leave off, I pray you, this usury.
10 Também eu, meus irmãos e meus moços lhes demos dinheiro emprestado e trigo. Demos de mão a esse empréstimo.
11 Give back, I pray you, to them, as to-day, their fields, their vineyards, their olive-yards, and their houses, and the hundredth [part] of the money, and of the corn, of the new wine, and of the oil, that ye are exacting of them.`
11 Restituí-lhes hoje, vos peço, as suas terras, as suas vinhas, os seus olivais e as suas casas, como também o centésimo do dinheiro, do trigo, do vinho e do azeite, que exigistes deles.
12 And they say, `We give back, and of them we seek nothing; so we do as thou art saying.` And I call the priests, and cause them to swear to do according to this thing;
12 Então, responderam: Restituir-lhes-emos e nada lhes pediremos; faremos assim como dizes. Então, chamei os sacerdotes e os fiz jurar que fariam segundo prometeram.
13 also, my lap I have shaken, and I say, `Thus doth God shake out every man, who doth not perform this thing, from his house, and from his labour; yea, thus is he shaken out and empty;` and all the assembly say, `Amen,` and praise Jehovah; and the people do according to this thing.
13 Também sacudi o meu regaço e disse: Assim o faça Deus, sacuda de sua casa e de seu trabalho a todo homem que não cumprir esta promessa; seja sacudido e despojado. E toda a congregação respondeu: Amém! E louvaram o Senhor ; e o povo fez segundo a sua promessa.
14 Also, from the day that he appointed me to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the thirty and second year of Artaxerxes the king -- twelve years -- I, and my brethren, the bread of the governor have not eaten:
14 Também desde o dia em que fui nomeado seu governador na terra de Judá, desde o vigésimo ano até ao trigésimo segundo ano do rei Artaxerxes, doze anos, nem eu nem meus irmãos comemos o pão devido ao governador.
15 the former governors who [are] before me have made themselves heavy on the people, and take of them in bread and wine, besides in silver forty shekels; also, their servants have ruled over the people -- and I have not done so, because of the fear of God.
15 Mas os primeiros governadores, que foram antes de mim, oprimiram o povo e lhe tomaram pão e vinho, além de quarenta siclos de prata; até os seus moços dominavam sobre o povo, porém eu assim não fiz, por causa do temor de Deus.
16 And also, in the work of this wall I have done mightily, even a field we have not bought, and all my servants are gathered there for the work;
16 Antes, também na obra deste muro fiz reparação, e terra nenhuma compramos; e todos os meus moços se ajuntaram ali para a obra.
17 and of the Jews, and of the prefects, a hundred and fifty men, and those coming in unto us of the nations that [are] round about us, [are] at my table;
17 Também cento e cinquenta homens dos judeus e dos magistrados e os que vinham a nós, dentre as gentes que estavam ao nosso redor, eram meus hóspedes.
18 and that which hath been prepared for one day [is] one ox, six fat sheep, also fowls have been prepared for me, and once in ten days of all wines abundantly, and with this, the bread of the governor I have not sought, for heavy is the service on this people.
18 O que se preparava para cada dia era um boi e seis ovelhas escolhidas; também à minha custa eram preparadas aves e, de dez em dez dias, muito vinho de todas as espécies; nem por isso exigi o pão devido ao governador, porquanto a servidão deste povo era grande.
19 Remember for me, O my God, for good, all that I have done for this people.
19 Lembra-te de mim para meu bem, ó meu Deus, e de tudo quanto fiz a este povo.
