1 And Jesus having been born in Beth-Lehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, lo, mages from the east came to Jerusalem,
1 Jesus nasceu na cidade de Belém, na região da Judeia, quando Herodes era rei da terra de Israel. Nesse tempo alguns homens que estudavam as estrelas vieram do Oriente e chegaram a Jerusalém.
2 saying, `Where is he who was born king of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and we came to bow to him.`
2 Eles perguntaram: — Onde está o menino que nasceu para ser o rei dos judeus? Nós vimos a estrela dele no Oriente e viemos adorá-lo.
3 And Herod the king having heard, was stirred, and all Jerusalem with him,
3 Quando o rei Herodes soube disso, ficou muito preocupado, e todo o povo de Jerusalém também ficou.
4 and having gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he was inquiring from them where the Christ is born.
4 Então Herodes reuniu os chefes dos sacerdotes e os mestres da Lei e perguntou onde devia nascer o Messias .
5 And they said to him, `In Beth-Lehem of Judea, for thus it hath been written through the prophet,
5 Eles responderam: — Na cidade de Belém, na região da Judeia, pois o
6 And thou, Beth-Lehem, the land of Judah, thou art by no means the least among the leaders of Judah, for out of thee shall come one leading, who shall feed My people Israel.`
6 “Você, Belém, da terra de Judá, de modo nenhum é a menor entre as principais cidades de Judá, pois de você sairá o líder que guiará o meu povo de Israel.”
7 Then Herod, privately having called the mages, did inquire exactly from them the time of the appearing star,
7 Então Herodes chamou os visitantes do Oriente para uma reunião secreta e perguntou qual o tempo exato em que a estrela havia aparecido; e eles disseram.
8 and having sent them to Beth-Lehem, he said, `Having gone -- inquire ye exactly for the child, and whenever ye may have found, bring me back word, that I also having come may bow to him.`
8 Depois os mandou a Belém com a seguinte ordem: — Vão e procurem informações bem certas sobre o menino. E, quando o encontrarem, me avisem, para eu também ir adorá-lo.
9 And they, having heard the king, departed, and lo, the star, that they did see in the east, did go before them, till, having come, it stood over where the child was.
9 Depois de receberem a ordem do rei, os visitantes foram embora. No caminho viram a estrela, a mesma que tinham visto no Oriente. Ela foi adiante deles e parou acima do lugar onde o menino estava.
10 And having seen the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy,
10 Quando viram a estrela, eles ficaram muito alegres e felizes.
11 and having come to the house, they found the child with Mary his mother, and having fallen down they bowed to him, and having opened their treasures, they presented to him gifts, gold, and frankincense, and myrrh,
11 Entraram na casa e encontraram o menino com Maria, a sua mãe. Então se ajoelharam diante dele e o adoraram. Depois abriram os seus cofres e lhe ofereceram presentes: ouro, incenso e mirra .
12 and having been divinely warned in a dream not to turn back unto Herod, through another way they withdrew to their own region.
12 E num sonho Deus os avisou que não voltassem para falar com Herodes. Por isso voltaram para a sua terra por outro caminho.
13 And on their having withdrawn, lo, a messenger of the Lord doth appear in a dream to Joseph, saying, `Having risen, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and be thou there till I may speak to thee, for Herod is about to seek the child to destroy him.`
13 Depois que os visitantes foram embora, um anjo do Senhor apareceu num sonho a José e disse: — Levante-se, pegue a criança e a sua mãe e fuja para o Egito. Fiquem lá até eu avisar, pois Herodes está procurando a criança para matá-la.
14 And he, having risen, took the child and his mother by night, and withdrew to Egypt,
14 Então José se levantou no meio da noite, pegou a criança e a sua mãe e fugiu para o Egito.
15 and he was there till the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, `Out of Egypt I did call My Son.`
15 E eles ficaram lá até a morte de Herodes. Isso aconteceu para se cumprir o que o Senhor tinha dito por meio do profeta : “Eu chamei o meu filho, que estava na terra do Egito.”
16 Then Herod, having seen that he was deceived by the mages, was very wroth, and having sent forth, he slew all the male children in Beth-Lehem, and in all its borders, from two years and under, according to the time that he inquired exactly from the mages.
16 Quando Herodes viu que os visitantes do Oriente o haviam enganado, ficou com muita raiva e mandou matar, em Belém e nas suas vizinhanças, todos os meninos de menos de dois anos. Ele fez isso de acordo com a informação que havia recebido sobre o tempo em que a estrela havia aparecido.
17 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
17 Assim se cumpriu o que o profeta Jeremias tinha dito:
18 `A voice in Ramah was heard -- lamentation and weeping and much mourning -- Rachel weeping [for] her children, and she would not be comforted because they are not.`
18 “Ouviu-se um som em Ramá, o som de um choro amargo. Era Raquel chorando pelos seus filhos; ela não quis ser consolada, pois todos estavam mortos.”
19 And Herod having died, lo, a messenger of the Lord in a dream doth appear to Joseph in Egypt,
19 Depois que Herodes morreu, um anjo do Senhor apareceu num sonho a José, no Egito,
20 saying, `Having risen, take the child and his mother, and be going to the land of Israel, for they have died -- those seeking the life of the child.`
20 e disse: — Levante-se, pegue a criança e a sua mãe e volte para a terra de Israel, pois as pessoas que queriam matar o menino já morreram.
21 And he, having risen, took the child and his mother, and came to the land of Israel,
21 Então José se levantou, pegou a criança e a sua mãe e voltou para a terra de Israel.
22 and having heard that Archelaus doth reign over Judea instead of Herod his father, he was afraid to go thither, and having been divinely warned in a dream, he withdrew to the parts of Galilee,
22 Mas, quando ficou sabendo que Arquelau, filho do rei Herodes, estava governando a Judeia no lugar do seu pai, teve medo de ir morar lá. Depois de receber num sonho mais instruções, José foi para a região da Galileia
23 and coming, he dwelt in a city named Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled that was spoken through the prophets, that `A Nazarene he shall be called.`
23 e ficou morando numa cidade chamada Nazaré. Isso aconteceu para se cumprir o que os profetas tinham dito: “O Messias será chamado de Nazareno.”
