1 And it cometh to pass, in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, come up hath Sennacherib king of Asshur against all the fenced cities of Judah, and seizeth them.
1 Então, aconteceu no ano décimo quarto do rei Ezequias, que Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, subiu contra todas as cidades protegidas de Judá e as tomou.
2 And the king of Asshur sendeth Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem, unto the king Hezekiah, with a heavy force, and he standeth by the conduit of the upper pool, in the highway of the fuller`s field,
2 E o rei da Assíria enviou Rabsaqué de Láquis a Jerusalém ao rei Ezequias, com um grande exército. E ele se posicionou próximo ao aqueduto do reservatório superior, na estrada do campo do lavandeiro.
3 and go forth unto him doth Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who [is] over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph, the remembrancer.
3 Então, saíram até ele Eliaquim, o filho de Hilquias, o qual administrava a casa, e Sebna, o escriba, e Joá, filho de Asafe, o cronista.
4 And Rabshakeh saith unto them, `Say ye, I pray you, unto Hezekiah, `Thus said the great king, the king of Asshur, What [is] this confidence in which thou hast confided?
4 E Rabsaqué disse-lhes: Dizei vós agora a Ezequias. Desta forma diz o grande rei, o rei da Assíria: Que confiança é esta na qual te firmas?
5 I have said: Only, a word of the lips! counsel and might [are] for battle: now, on whom hast thou trusted, that thou hast rebelled against me?
5 Eu digo: Fala tu! (Porém, elas são apenas vãs palavras). Eu tenho conselho e força para a guerra. Agora, em quem tu confias, visto que te rebelas contra mim?
6 `Lo, thou hast trusted on the staff of this broken reed -- on Egypt -- which a man leaneth on, and it hath gone into his hand, and pierced it -- so [is] Pharaoh king of Egypt to all those trusting on him.
6 Vê! Tu confias no bastão desta cana quebrada, no Egito, sobre o qual se um homem se apoiar, ele entrará em sua mão e a perfurará. Desta forma, é Faraó, rei do Egito, para com todos que confiam nele.
7 `And dost thou say unto me, Unto Jehovah our God we have trusted? is it not He, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath turned aside, and saith to Judah and to Jerusalem, Before this altar ye do bow yourselves?
7 Porém, se tu me disseres: Nós confiamos no SENHOR nosso Deus. Não é esse aquele cujos lugares elevados e cujos altares Ezequias tem removido, e dito para Judá e para Jerusalém: Vós adorareis perante este altar?
8 `And now, negotiate, I pray thee, with my lord the king of Asshur, and I give to thee two thousand horses, if thou art able to put for thee riders on them.
8 Agora, portanto, faz promessas solenes, eu rogo a ti, ao meu senhor, o rei da Assíria, e eu darei a ti dois mil cavalos se tu fores capaz, em tua parte do acordo, de dispor cavaleiros sobre eles.
9 And how dost thou turn back the face of one captain of the least of the servants of my lord, and dost trust for thee on Egypt, for chariot and for horsemen?
9 Como, então, irás tu desviar a face de um capitão do menor dos servos de meu senhor, e colocar tua confiança no Egito, para carruagens e para cavaleiros?
10 And now, without Jehovah have I come up against this land to destroy it? Jehovah said unto me, Go up unto this land, and thou hast destroyed it.`
10 E, estou eu agora a subir sem o SENHOR a esta terra para destruí-la? O SENHOR disse para mim: Sobe contra esta terra e destrói-a.
11 And Eliakim saith -- and Shebna and Joah -- unto Rabshakeh, `Speak, we pray thee, unto thy servants [in] Aramaean, for we are understanding; and do not speak unto us [in] Jewish, in the ears of the people who [are] on the wall.`
11 Então, disse Eliaquim, e Sebna, e Joá a Rabsaqué: Fala, eu rogo a ti, a teus servos na linguagem dos sírios, porque nós a entendemos, e não nos fale na linguagem dos judeus, aos ouvidos do povo que está sobre o muro.
12 And Rabshakeh saith, `Unto thy lord, and unto thee, hath my lord sent me to speak these words? is it not for the men -- those sitting on the wall to eat their own dung and to drink their own water with you?`
12 Porém, Rabsaqué disse: Tem o meu senhor me enviado ao teu senhor e a ti para dizer estas palavras? Ele não tem me enviado aos homens que sentam sobre o muro, os quais podem comer suas próprias fezes e beber seu próprio mijo juntamente convosco?
13 And Rabshakeh standeth and calleth with a great voice [in] Jewish, and saith, `Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Asshur:
13 Então, Rabsaqué levantou-se e gritou em alta voz na linguagem dos judeus, e disse: Ouvi vós as palavras do grande rei, o rei da Assíria.
14 Thus said the king, Let not Hezekiah lift you up, for he is not able to deliver you;
14 Desta forma diz o rei: Não deixeis Ezequias vos enganar, porque ele não será capaz de vos livrar.
15 and let not Hezekiah make you trust unto Jehovah, saying, Jehovah doth certainly deliver us, this city is not given into the hand of the king of Asshur.
15 Nem deixeis Ezequias vos fazer confiar no SENHOR, dizendo: O SENHOR certamente nos livrará. Esta cidade não será entregue na mão do rei da Assíria.
16 `Do not hearken unto Hezekiah, for thus said the king of Asshur, Make ye with me a blessing, and come out unto me, and eat ye each of his vine, and each of his fig-tree, and drink ye each the waters of his own well,
16 Não escuteis a Ezequias, porquanto assim diz o rei da Assíria: Façam um acordo comigo por intermédio de um presente e saiam até a mim, e comei vós cada um de sua vinha, e cada um de sua figueira, e bebei vós cada um as águas de sua própria cisterna.
17 till my coming in, and I have taken you unto a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards;
17 Até que eu venha, e vos leve para uma terra semelhante a vossa própria terra, uma terra de grão e vinho, uma terra de pão e vinhas.
18 lest Hezekiah doth persuade you, saying, Jehovah doth deliver us. `Have the gods of the nations delivered each his land out of the hand of the king of Asshur?
18 Acautelai-vos de deixar Ezequias vos persuadir, dizendo: O SENHOR nos livrará. Têm quaisquer dos deuses das nações livrado suas terras da mão do rei da Assíria?
19 Where [are] the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where the gods of Sepharvaim, that they have delivered Samaria out of my hand?
19 Onde estão os deuses de Hamate e Arpade? Onde estão os deuses de Sevarfaim? E têm eles livrado Samaria, tirando-os da minha mão?
20 Who among all the gods of these lands [are] they who have delivered their land out of my hand, that Jehovah doth deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?`
20 Quem são eles, dentre todos os deuses destas terras, que têm livrado sua terra da minha mão, para que o SENHOR deva livrar Jerusalém da minha mão?
21 And they keep silent, and have not answered him a word, for a command of the king is, saying, `Do not answer him.`
21 Porém, eles mantiveram a serenidade deles e não responderam a ele uma palavra, porquanto a ordem do rei era, dizendo: Não o respondam.
22 And Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who [is] over the house, cometh in, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph, the remembrancer, unto Hezekiah with rent garments, and they declare to him the words of Rabshakeh.
22 Então, veio Eliaquim, o filho de Hilquias, o qual era o mordomo, e Sebna, o escriba, e Joá, o filho de Asafe, o cronista, até Ezequias com suas vestes rasgadas, e contaram a ele as palavras de Rabsaqué.
