1 And the people see that Moses is delaying to come down from the mount, and the people assemble against Aaron, and say unto him, `Rise, make for us gods who go before us, for this Moses -- the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt -- we have not known what hath happened to him.`
1 Mas, vendo o povo que Moisés tardava em descer do monte, acercou-se de Arão e lhe disse: Levanta-te, faze-nos deuses que vão adiante de nós; pois, quanto a este Moisés, o homem que nos tirou do Egito, não sabemos o que lhe terá sucedido.
2 And Aaron saith unto them, `Break off the rings of gold which [are] in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring in unto me;`
2 Disse-lhes Arão: Tirai as argolas de ouro das orelhas de vossas mulheres, vossos filhos e vossas filhas e trazei-mas.
3 and all the people themselves break off the rings of gold which [are] in their ears, and bring in unto Aaron,
3 Então, todo o povo tirou das orelhas as argolas e as trouxe a Arão.
4 and he receiveth from their hand, and doth fashion it with a graving tool, and doth make it a molten calf, and they say, `These thy gods, O Israel, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.`
4 Este, recebendo-as das suas mãos, trabalhou o ouro com buril e fez dele um bezerro fundido. Então, disseram: São estes, ó Israel, os teus deuses, que te tiraram da terra do Egito.
5 And Aaron seeth, and buildeth an altar before it, and Aaron calleth, and saith, `A festival to Jehovah -- to-morrow;`
5 Arão, vendo isso, edificou um altar diante dele e, apregoando, disse: Amanhã, será festa ao Senhor .
6 and they rise early on the morrow, and cause burnt-offerings to ascend, and bring nigh peace-offerings; and the people sit down to eat and to drink, and rise up to play.
6 No dia seguinte, madrugaram, e ofereceram holocaustos, e trouxeram ofertas pacíficas; e o povo assentou-se para comer e beber e levantou-se para divertir-se.
7 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Go, descend, for thy people whom thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt hath done corruptly,
7 Então, disse o Senhor a Moisés: Vai, desce; porque o teu povo, que fizeste sair do Egito, se corrompeu
8 they have turned aside hastily from the way that I have commanded them; they have made for themselves a molten calf, and bow themselves to it, and sacrifice to it, and say, These thy gods, O Israel, who brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.`
8 e depressa se desviou do caminho que lhe havia eu ordenado; fez para si um bezerro fundido, e o adorou, e lhe sacrificou, e diz: São estes, ó Israel, os teus deuses, que te tiraram da terra do Egito.
9 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `I have seen this people, and lo, it [is] a stiff-necked people;
9 Disse mais o Senhor a Moisés: Tenho visto este povo, e eis que é povo de dura cerviz.
10 and now, let Me alone, and My anger doth burn against them, and I consume them, and I make thee become a great nation.`
10 Agora, pois, deixa-me, para que se acenda contra eles o meu furor, e eu os consuma; e de ti farei uma grande nação.
11 And Moses appeaseth the face of Jehovah his God, and saith, `Why, O Jehovah, doth Thine anger burn against Thy people, whom Thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a strong hand?
11 Porém Moisés suplicou ao Senhor , seu Deus, e disse: Por que se acende, Senhor , a tua ira contra o teu povo, que tiraste da terra do Egito com grande fortaleza e poderosa mão?
12 why do the Egyptians speak, saying, For evil He brought them out to slay them among mountains, and to consume them from off the face of the ground? turn back from the heat of Thine anger, and repent of the evil against Thy people.
12 Por que hão de dizer os egípcios: Com maus intentos os tirou, para matá-los nos montes e para consumi-los da face da terra? Torna-te do furor da tua ira e arrepende-te deste mal contra o teu povo.
13 `Be mindful of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, Thy servants, to whom Thou hast sworn by Thyself, and unto whom Thou speakest: I multiply your seed as stars of the heavens, and all this land, as I have said, I give to your seed, and they have inherited to the age;`
13 Lembra-te de Abraão, de Isaque e de Israel, teus servos, aos quais por ti mesmo tens jurado e lhes disseste: Multiplicarei a vossa descendência como as estrelas do céu, e toda esta terra de que tenho falado, dá-la-ei à vossa descendência, para que a possuam por herança eternamente.
14 and Jehovah repenteth of the evil which He hath spoken of doing to His people.
14 Então, se arrependeu o Senhor do mal que dissera havia de fazer ao povo.
15 And Moses turneth, and goeth down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony [are] in his hand, tables written on both their sides, on this and on that [are] they written;
15 E, voltando-se, desceu Moisés do monte com as duas tábuas do Testemunho nas mãos, tábuas escritas de ambos os lados; de um e de outro lado estavam escritas.
16 and the tables are the work of God, and the writing is the writing of God, graven on the tables.
16 As tábuas eram obra de Deus; também a escritura era a mesma escritura de Deus, esculpida nas tábuas.
17 And Joshua heareth the voice of the people in their shouting, and saith unto Moses, `A noise of battle in the camp!`
17 Ouvindo Josué a voz do povo que gritava, disse a Moisés: Há alarido de guerra no arraial.
18 and he saith, `It is not the voice of the crying of might, nor is it the voice of the crying of weakness -- a voice of singing I am hearing.`
18 Respondeu-lhe Moisés: Não é alarido dos vencedores nem alarido dos vencidos, mas alarido dos que cantam é o que ouço.
19 And it cometh to pass, when he hath drawn near unto the camp, that he seeth the calf, and the dancing, and the anger of Moses burneth, and he casteth out of his hands the tables, and breaketh them under the mount;
19 Logo que se aproximou do arraial, viu ele o bezerro e as danças; então, acendendo-se-lhe a ira, arrojou das mãos as tábuas e quebrou-as ao pé do monte;
20 and he taketh the calf which they have made, and burneth [it] with fire, and grindeth until [it is] small, and scattereth on the face of the waters, and causeth the sons of Israel to drink.
20 e, pegando no bezerro que tinham feito, queimou-o, e o reduziu a pó, que espalhou sobre a água, e deu de beber aos filhos de Israel.
21 And Moses saith unto Aaron, `What hath this people done to thee, that thou hast brought in upon it a great sin?`
21 Depois, perguntou Moisés a Arão: Que te fez este povo, que trouxeste sobre ele tamanho pecado?
22 and Aaron saith, `Let not the anger of my lord burn; thou -- thou hast known the people that it [is] in evil;
22 Respondeu-lhe Arão: Não se acenda a ira do meu senhor; tu sabes que o povo é propenso para o mal.
23 and they say to me, Make for us gods, who go before us, for this Moses -- the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt -- we have not known what hath happened to him;
23 Pois me disseram: Faze-nos deuses que vão adiante de nós; pois, quanto a este Moisés, o homem que nos tirou da terra do Egito, não sabemos o que lhe terá acontecido.
24 and I say to them, Whoso hath gold, let them break [it] off, and they give to me, and I cast it into the fire, and this calf cometh out.`
24 Então, eu lhes disse: quem tem ouro, tire-o. Deram-mo; e eu o lancei no fogo, e saiu este bezerro.
25 And Moses seeth the people that it [is] unbridled, for Aaron hath made it unbridled for contempt among its withstanders,
25 Vendo Moisés que o povo estava desenfreado, pois Arão o deixara à solta para vergonha no meio dos seus inimigos,
26 and Moses standeth in the gate of the camp, and saith, `Who [is] for Jehovah? -- unto me!` and all the sons of Levi are gathered unto him;
26 pôs-se em pé à entrada do arraial e disse: Quem é do Senhor venha até mim. Então, se ajuntaram a ele todos os filhos de Levi,
27 and he saith to them, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Put each his sword by his thigh, pass over and turn back from gate to gate through the camp, and slay each his brother, and each his friend, and each his relation.`
27 aos quais disse: Assim diz o Senhor , o Deus de Israel: Cada um cinja a espada sobre o lado, passai e tornai a passar pelo arraial de porta em porta, e mate cada um a seu irmão, cada um, a seu amigo, e cada um, a seu vizinho.
28 And the sons of Levi do according to the word of Moses, and there fall of the people on that day about three thousand men,
28 E fizeram os filhos de Levi segundo a palavra de Moisés; e caíram do povo, naquele dia, uns três mil homens.
29 and Moses saith, `Consecrate your hand to-day to Jehovah, for a man [is] against his son, and against his brother, so as to bring on you to-day a blessing.`
29 Pois Moisés dissera: Consagrai-vos, hoje, ao Senhor ; cada um contra o seu filho e contra o seu irmão, para que ele vos conceda, hoje, bênção.
30 And it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that Moses saith unto the people, `Ye -- ye have sinned a great sin, and now I go up unto Jehovah, if so be I atone for your sin.`
30 No dia seguinte, disse Moisés ao povo: Vós cometestes grande pecado; agora, porém, subirei ao Senhor e, porventura, farei propiciação pelo vosso pecado.
31 And Moses turneth back unto Jehovah, and saith, `Oh this people hath sinned a great sin, that they make to themselves a god of gold;
31 Tornou Moisés ao Senhor e disse: Ora, o povo cometeu grande pecado, fazendo para si deuses de ouro.
32 and now, if Thou takest away their sin -- and if not -- blot me, I pray thee, out of Thy book which Thou hast written.`
32 Agora, pois, perdoa-lhe o pecado; ou, se não, risca-me, peço-te, do livro que escreveste.
33 And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Whoso hath sinned against Me -- I blot him out of My book;
33 Então, disse o Senhor a Moisés: Riscarei do meu livro todo aquele que pecar contra mim.
34 and now, go, lead the people whithersoever I have spoken to thee of; lo, My messenger goeth before thee, and in the day of my charging -- then I have charged upon them their sin.`
34 Vai, pois, agora, e conduze o povo para onde te disse; eis que o meu Anjo irá adiante de ti; porém, no dia da minha visitação, vingarei, neles, o seu pecado.
35 And Jehovah plagueth the people, because they made the calf which Aaron made.
35 Feriu, pois, o Senhor ao povo, porque fizeram o bezerro que Arão fabricara.
