¹ And the days are many, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Elijah in the third year, saying, `Go, appear unto Ahab, and I give rain on the face of the ground;`

¹ E sucedeu, depois de muitos dias, que a palavra do SENHOR veio a Elias no terceiro ano, dizendo: Vai, mostra-te a Acabe; e eu enviarei chuva sobre a terra.

² and Elijah goeth to appear unto Ahab. And the famine is severe in Samaria,

² E foi Elias apresentar-se a Acabe. E houve uma fome extrema em Samaria.

³ and Ahab calleth unto Obadiah, who [is] over the house -- and Obadiah hath been fearing Jehovah greatly,

³ E Acabe chamou Obadias, o qual era o governador da sua casa. (Ora, Obadias temia muitíssimo ao SENHOR;

⁴ and it cometh to pass, in Jezebel`s cutting off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah taketh a hundred prophets, and hideth them, fifty men in a cave, and hath sustained them with bread and water --

⁴ porque foi assim, quando Jezabel extirpou os profetas do SENHOR, que Obadias tomou uma centena de profetas, e ocultou-lhes em dois grupos de cinquenta em uma caverna, e os alimentou com pão e água.)

⁵ and Ahab saith unto Obadiah, `Go through the land, unto all fountains of waters, and unto all the brooks, if so be we find hay, and keep alive horse and mule, and do not cut off any of the cattle.`

⁵ E Acabe disse a Obadias: Adentra a terra, a todas as fontes de água, e a todos os ribeiros; porventura podemos achar erva para salvar a vida dos cavalos e das mulas, para que não percamos todos os animais.

⁶ And they apportion to themselves the land, to pass over into it; Ahab hath gone in one way by himself, and Obadiah hath gone in another way by himself;

⁶ Assim, eles dividiram a terra entre si, para atravessá-la. Acabe seguiu por um caminho sozinho, e Obadias seguiu por outro caminho sozinho.

⁷ and Obadiah [is] in the way, and lo, Elijah -- to meet him; and he discerneth him, and falleth on his face, and saith, `Art thou he -- my lord Elijah?`

⁷ E, enquanto Obadias estava no caminho, eis que Elias o encontrou; e ele o reconheceu, prostrou-se sobre a sua face, e disse: És tu aquele meu senhor, Elias?

⁸ And he saith to him, `I [am]; go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah.`

⁸ E ele respondeu: Sou eu; vai e conta ao teu senhor: Eis que Elias está aqui.

⁹ And he saith, `What have I sinned, that thou art giving thy servant into the hand of Ahab -- to put me to death?

⁹ E ele disse: No que tenho eu pecado para que tu queiras entregar o teu servo na mão de Acabe, para me matar?

¹⁰ Jehovah thy God liveth, if there is a nation and kingdom whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee; and they said, He is not, then he caused the kingdom and the nation to swear, that it doth not find thee;

¹⁰ Como vive o SENHOR teu Deus, não há nação ou reino, para onde o meu senhor não tenha me enviado a te procurar; e dizendo eles: Aqui não está, então fazia jurar os reinos e nações, que não te haviam encontrado.

¹¹ and now, thou art saying, Go, say to thy lord, Lo, Elijah;

¹¹ E, agora, tu dizes: Vai e conte ao teu senhor: Eis que Elias está aqui.

¹² and it hath been, I go from thee, and the Spirit of Jehovah doth lift thee up, whither I know not, and I have come to declare to Ahab, and he doth not find thee, and he hath slain me; and thy servant is fearing Jehovah from my youth.

¹² E sucederá, tão logo eu parta de ti, que o Espírito do SENHOR te carregará para onde eu não sei; e, assim, quando eu vier e contar a Acabe, e ele não conseguir te encontrar, me matará; mas eu, o teu servo, temo o SENHOR desde a minha mocidade.

¹³ `Hath it not been declared to my lord that which I have done in Jezebel`s slaying the prophets of Jehovah, that I hide of the prophets of Jehovah a hundred men, fifty by fifty in a cave, and sustained them with bread and water?

¹³ Não foi contado ao meu senhor o que eu fiz quando Jezabel matou os profetas do SENHOR, como eu ocultei uma centena de homens dos profetas do SENHOR em dois grupos de cinquenta em uma caverna, e os alimentei com pão e água?

¹⁴ and now thou art saying, Go, say to my lord, Lo, Elijah -- and he hath slain me!`

¹⁴ E, agora, dizes: Vai e conta ao teu senhor: Eis que Elias está aqui; e ele me matará.

¹⁵ And Elijah saith, `Jehovah of Hosts liveth, before whom I have stood, surely to-day I appear unto him.`

¹⁵ E Elias disse: Como vive o SENHOR dos Exércitos, diante de quem me ponho de pé, certamente me mostrarei a ele hoje.

¹⁶ And Obadiah goeth to meet Ahab, and declareth [it] to him, and Ahab goeth to meet Elijah,

¹⁶ Assim, Obadias foi se encontrar com Acabe, e lhe contou; e Acabe foi se encontrar com Elias.

¹⁷ and it cometh to pass at Ahab`s seeing Elijah, that Ahab saith unto him, `Art thou he -- the troubler of Israel?`

¹⁷ E sucedeu, quando viu Elias, que Acabe disse a ele: És tu aquele que perturba Israel?

¹⁸ And he saith, `I have not troubled Israel, but thou and the house of thy father, in your forsaking the commands of Jehovah, and thou goest after the Baalim;

¹⁸ E ele respondeu: Eu não tenho perturbado Israel; mas tu, e a casa do teu pai, ao abandonardes os mandamentos do SENHOR, e teres seguido a Baalim.

¹⁹ and now, send, gather unto me all Israel, unto the mount of Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the shrine, four hundred -- eating at the table of Jezebel.`

¹⁹ Agora, portanto, mandai reunir a mim todo o Israel no monte Carmelo, e dos profetas de Baal, quatrocentos e cinquenta, e dos profetas dos bosques, quatrocentos, os quais comem à mesa de Jezabel.

²⁰ And Ahab sendeth among all the sons of Israel, and gathereth the prophets unto the mount of Carmel;

²⁰ Assim, Acabe enviou a todos os filhos de Israel e reuniu os profetas no Monte Carmelo.

²¹ and Elijah cometh nigh unto all the people, and saith, `Till when are ye leaping on the two branches? -- if Jehovah [is] God, go after Him; and if Baal, go after him;` and the people have not answered him a word.

²¹ E Elias chegou diante de todo o povo, e disse: Por quanto tempo vos coxeareis entre duas opiniões? Se o SENHOR é Deus, segui-o; mas se o é Baal, então segui-o. E o povo não lhe respondeu com uma palavra sequer.

²² And Elijah saith unto the people, `I -- I have been left a prophet of Jehovah -- by myself; and the prophets of Baal [are] four hundred and fifty men;

²² Então, disse Elias ao povo: Eu, somente eu, permaneço um profeta do SENHOR; porém os profetas de Baal são quatrocentos e cinquenta homens.

²³ and let them give to us two bullocks, and they choose for themselves the one bullock, and cut it in pieces, and place [it] on the wood, and place no fire; and I -- I prepare the other bullock, and have put [it] on the wood, and fire I do not place; --

²³ Que nos deem, portanto, dois novilhos; e que escolham um novilho para si, e o cortem em pedaços, e o disponham sobre lenha, e não coloquem fogo por baixo; e eu prepararei o outro novilho, e o disporei sobre lenha, e não colocarei fogo por baixo;

²⁴ and ye have called in the name of your god, and I -- I call in the name of Jehovah, and it hath been, the god who answereth by fire -- He [is] the God.` And all the people answer and say, `Good [is] the word.`

²⁴ e clamai vós o nome dos vossos deuses, e eu clamarei o nome do SENHOR; e o Deus que responder com fogo, que seja ele Deus. E todo o povo respondeu e disse: Está bem falado.

²⁵ And Elijah saith to the prophets of Baal, `Choose for you the one bullock, and prepare first, for ye [are] the multitude, and call ye in the name of your god, and place no fire.`

²⁵ E Elias disse aos profetas de Baal: Escolhei um novilho para vós, e preparai-o primeiro; porquanto vós sois muitos; e clamai o nome dos vossos deuses, porém não coloquem fogo por baixo.

²⁶ And they take the bullock that [one] gave to them, and prepare, and call in the name of Baal from the morning even till the noon, saying, `O Baal, answer us!` and there is no voice, and there is none answering; and they leap on the altar that one had made.

²⁶ E eles tomaram o novilho que lhes fora dado, e o prepararam, e clamaram o nome de Baal desde a manhã até o meio-dia, dizendo: Ó Baal, ouve-nos. Todavia, não houve voz, nem ninguém que respondesse. E saltavam sobre o altar que fora feito.

²⁷ And it cometh to pass, at noon, that Elijah playeth on them, and saith, `Call with a loud voice, for he [is] a god, for he is meditating, or pursuing, or on a journey; it may be he is asleep, an doth awake.`

²⁷ E sucedeu, ao meio-dia, que Elias zombou deles, e disse: Gritai alto; porque ele é um deus; ou está conversando, ou ele está meditando, ou está em uma viagem, ou porventura dorme, e deve ser despertado.

²⁸ And they call with a loud voice, and cut themselves, according to their ordinance, with swords and with spears, till a flowing of blood [is] on them;

²⁸ E eles gritaram alto, e se cortaram, segundo o seu costume, com facas e lancetas, até que o sangue se derramou sobre eles.

²⁹ and it cometh to pass, at the passing by of the noon, that they feign themselves prophets till the going up of the present, and there is no voice, and there is none answering, and there is none attending.

²⁹ E sucedeu, quando era passado o meio-dia, eles profetizaram até a hora da oferta do sacrifício do anoitecer, que não houve nem voz, nem ninguém para responder, tampouco alguém que se importasse.

³⁰ And Elijah saith to all the people, `Come nigh unto me;` and all the people come nigh unto him, and he repaireth the altar of Jehovah that is broken down;

³⁰ E Elias disse a todo o povo: Cheguem perto de mim. E todo o povo chegou perto dele. E ele consertou o altar do SENHOR que estava quebrado.

³¹ and Elijah taketh twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of Jehovah was, saying, `Israel is thy name;`

³¹ E Elias pegou doze pedras, segundo o número das tribos dos filhos de Jacó, a quem a palavra do SENHOR veio, dizendo: Israel será o teu nome;

³² and he buildeth with the stones an altar, in the name of Jehovah, and maketh a trench, as about the space of two measures of seed, round about the altar.

³² e com as pedras ele edificou um altar no nome do SENHOR; e fez uma trincheira ao redor do altar, grande o suficiente para conter duas medidas de semente.

³³ And he arrangeth the wood, and cutteth in pieces the bullock, and placeth [it] on the wood, and saith, `Fill ye four pitchers of water, and pour on the burnt-offering, and on the wood;

³³ E ele colocou a lenha em ordem, e cortou o novilho em pedaços, e o colocou sobre a lenha, e disse: Enchei quatro barricas de água, e derramai-a em cima do sacrifício queimado, e sobre a lenha.

³⁴ and he saith, `Do [it] a second time;` and they do [it] a second time; and he saith, `Do [it] a third time;` and they do [it] a third time;

³⁴ E ele disse: Fazei-o pela segunda vez. E eles o fizeram pela segunda vez. E ele disse: Fazei-o pela terceira vez. E eles o fizeram pela terceira vez.

³⁵ and the water goeth round about the altar, and also, the trench he hath filled with water.

³⁵ E a água escorreu ao redor do altar; e ele também encheu a trincheira de água.

³⁶ And it cometh to pass, at the going up of the [evening-]present, that Elijah the prophet cometh nigh and saith, `Jehovah, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, to-day let it be known that Thou [art] God in Israel, and I Thy servant, that by Thy word I have done the whole of these things;

³⁶ E sucedeu, na hora da oferta do sacrifício da tarde, que Elias, o profeta, aproximou-se e disse: SENHOR Deus de Abraão, Isaque e de Israel, que seja conhecido neste dia que tu és Deus em Israel, e que eu sou teu servo, e que tenho feito todas estas coisas mediante a tua palavra.

³⁷ answer me, O Jehovah, answer me, and this people doth know that Thou [art] Jehovah God; and Thou hast turned their heart backward.`

³⁷ Ouve-me, ó SENHOR, ouve-me, para que este povo possa saber que tu és o SENHOR Deus, e que tu tens feito se volver novamente o seu coração.

³⁸ And there falleth a fire of Jehovah, and consumeth the burnt-offering, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and the water that [is] in the trench it hath licked up.

³⁸ Então, o fogo do SENHOR caiu, e consumiu o sacrifício queimado, e a lenha, e as pedras, e o pó, e ainda lambeu a água que estava na trincheira.

³⁹ And all the people see, and fall on their faces, and say, `Jehovah, He [is] the God, Jehovah, He [is] the God.`

³⁹ E, quando todo o povo viu isto, eles caíram sobre as suas faces, e disseram: O SENHOR, ele é o Deus; o SENHOR, ele é o Deus.

⁴⁰ And Elijah saith to them, `Catch ye the prophets of Baal; let not a man escape of them;` and they catch them, and Elijah bringeth them down unto the stream Kishon, and doth slaughter them there.

⁴⁰ E Elias lhes disse: Tomai os profetas de Baal; não deixem escapar nenhum deles. E eles os pegaram; e Elias os fez descer até o ribeiro de Quisom, e ali os matou.

⁴¹ And Elijah saith to Ahab, `Go up, eat and drink, because of the sound of the noise of the shower.`

⁴¹ E Elias disse a Acabe: Levanta-te, come e bebe; porque há som de abundante chuva.

⁴² And Ahab goeth up to eat, and to drink, and Elijah hath gone up unto the top of Carmel, and he stretcheth himself out on the earth, and he placeth his face between his knees,

⁴² Assim, Acabe subiu para comer e beber. E Elias subiu até o cume do Carmelo; e se lançou sobre a terra, e pôs a face entre os joelhos,

⁴³ and saith unto his young man, `Go up, I pray thee, look attentively the way of the sea;` and he goeth up and looketh attentively, and saith, `There is nothing;` and he saith, `Turn back,` seven times.

⁴³ e disse ao seu servo: Sobe agora, olha em direção ao mar. E ele subiu, e olhou, e disse: Não há nada. E ele disse: Vai novamente, sete vezes.

⁴⁴ And it cometh to pass, at the seventh, that he saith, `Lo, a little thickness as the palm of a man is coming up out of the sea.` And he saith, `Go up, say unto Ahab, `Bind -- and go down, and the shower doth not restrain thee.`

⁴⁴ E sucedeu, na sétima vez, que ele disse: Eis que lá se levante uma pequena nuvem do mar, semelhante a mão de homem. E ele disse: Sobe, e dize a Acabe: Prepara a tua carruagem, e desce, para que a chuva não te pare.

⁴⁵ And it cometh to pass, in the meantime, that the heavens have become black -- thick clouds and wind -- and the shower is great; and Ahab rideth, and goeth to Jezreel,

⁴⁵ E sucedeu, entretanto, que o céu ficou negro com nuvens e vento, e houve uma grande chuva. E Acabe montou, e foi até Jezreel.

⁴⁶ and the hand of Jehovah hath been on Elijah, and he girdeth up his loins, and runneth before Ahab, till thine entering Jezreel.

⁴⁶ E a mão do SENHOR esteve sobre Elias; e ele cingiu os seus lombos, e correu adiante de Acabe até a entrada de Jezreel.
