1 Then Job answered and said:
1 Respondeu, porém, Jó:
2 Even today my complaint is bitter; my hand is heavy over my groaning.
2 Ainda hoje a minha queixa é de um revoltado, apesar de a minha mão reprimir o meu gemido.
3 Oh, that I knew where I might find Him, that I might come to His place!
3 Ah! Se eu soubesse onde o poderia achar! Então, me chegaria ao seu tribunal.
4 I would present my case before Him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
4 Exporia ante ele a minha causa, encheria a minha boca de argumentos.
5 I would know the words which He would answer me, and understand what He would say to me.
5 Saberia as palavras que ele me respondesse e entenderia o que me dissesse.
6 Would He contend with me in His great power? No! But He would set me in place.
6 Acaso, segundo a grandeza de seu poder, contenderia comigo? Não; antes, me atenderia.
7 There the upright could reason with Him, and I would be delivered forever from my Judge.
7 Ali, o homem reto pleitearia com ele, e eu me livraria para sempre do meu juiz.
8 Behold, I go forward, but He is not there, and backward, but I cannot perceive Him;
8 Eis que, se me adianto, ali não está; se torno para trás, não o percebo.
9 when He works on the left hand, I cannot see Him; when He turns to the right hand, I cannot perceive Him.
9 Se opera à esquerda, não o vejo; esconde-se à direita, e não o diviso.
10 But He knows the way that I take; when He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
10 Mas ele sabe o meu caminho; se ele me provasse, sairia eu como o ouro.
11 My foot has held fast to His steps; I have kept His way and not turned aside.
11 Os meus pés seguiram as suas pisadas; guardei o seu caminho e não me desviei dele.
12 I have not departed from the Commandment of His lips; I have treasured the Words of His mouth more than my prescribed food.
12 Do mandamento de seus lábios nunca me apartei, escondi no meu íntimo as palavras da sua boca.
13 But He is One, and who can turn Him back? And whatever His soul desires, that He does.
13 Mas, se ele resolveu alguma coisa, quem o pode dissuadir? O que ele deseja, isso fará.
14 For He completes what is prescribed for me, and many such things are with Him.
14 Pois ele cumprirá o que está ordenado a meu respeito e muitas coisas como estas ainda tem consigo.
15 Therefore I am terrified at His presence; when I consider this, I am in dread of Him.
15 Por isso, me perturbo perante ele; e, quando o considero, temo-o.
16 For the Mighty God has made my heart weak, and the Almighty has terrified me.
16 Deus é quem me fez desmaiar o coração, e o Todo-Poderoso, quem me perturbou,
17 But I have not been cut off by the face of darkness, and He has concealed the deep darkness from my face.
17 porque não estou desfalecido por causa das trevas, nem porque a escuridão cobre o meu rosto.
