1 Do now, ye riche men, wepe ye, yellinge in youre wretchidnessis that schulen come to you.
1 Agora, ricos, escutem! Chorem e gritem pelas desgraças que vocês vão sofrer!
2 Youre richessis ben rotun, and youre clothis ben etun of mouytis.
2 As suas riquezas estão podres, e as suas roupas finas estão comidas pelas traças.
3 Youre gold and siluer hath rustid, and the rust of hem schal be to you in to witnessyng, and schal ete youre fleischis, as fier. Ye han tresourid to you wraththe in the last daies.
3 O seu ouro e a sua prata estão cobertos de ferrugem, e essa ferrugem será testemunha contra vocês e, como fogo, comerá o corpo de vocês. Nestes últimos tempos vocês têm amontoado riquezas
4 Lo! the hire of youre werke men, that repiden youre feeldis, which is fraudid of you, crieth; and the cry of hem hath entrid in to the eeris of the Lord of oostis.
4 e não têm pago os salários das pessoas que trabalham nos seus campos. Escutem as suas reclamações! Os gritos dos que trabalham nas colheitas têm chegado até os ouvidos de Deus, o Senhor Todo-Poderoso.
5 Ye han ete on the erthe, and in youre letcheries ye han nurschid youre hertis. In the dai of sleyng ye brouyten,
5 Vocês têm tido uma vida de luxo e prazeres aqui na terra e estão gordos como gado pronto para o matadouro.
6 and slowen the iust man, and he ayenstood not you.
6 Vocês têm condenado e matado os inocentes, e eles não podem fazer nada contra vocês.
7 Therfor, britheren, be ye pacient, til to the comyng of the Lord. Lo! an erthetilier abidith preciouse fruyt of the erthe, paciently suffrynge, til he resseyue `tymeful and lateful fruyt.
7 Por isso, irmãos, tenham paciência até que o Senhor venha. Vejam como o lavrador espera com paciência que a sua terra dê colheitas preciosas. Ele espera pacientemente pelas chuvas do outono e da primavera.
8 And be ye pacient, and conferme ye youre hertis, for the comyng of the Lord schal neiye.
8 Vocês também precisam ter paciência. Não desanimem, pois o Senhor virá logo.
9 Britheren, nyle ye be sorewful ech to other, that ye be not demed. Lo! the iuge stondith niy bifor the yate.
9 Irmãos, não se queixem uns dos outros para não serem julgados por Deus. O Juiz está perto, pronto para vir.
10 Britheren, take ye ensaumple of yuel goyng out, and of long abidyng, and trauel, and of pacience, the prophetis, that speken to you in the name of the Lord.
10 Lembrem dos profetas que falaram em nome do Senhor e os tomem como exemplo de paciência nos momentos de sofrimento.
11 Lo! we blessen hem that suffriden. Ye herden the `suffring, ethir pacience, of Joob, and ye sayn the ende of the Lord, for the Lord is merciful, and doynge merci.
11 E nós achamos que eles foram felizes por terem suportado o sofrimento com paciência. Vocês têm ouvido a respeito da paciência de Jó e sabem como no final Deus o abençoou. Porque o Senhor é cheio de bondade e de misericórdia.
12 Bifor alle thingis, my britheren, nyle ye swere, nether bi heuene, nether bi erthe, nethir bi what euere other ooth. But be youre word Yhe, yhe, Nay, nay, that ye fallen not vndir doom.
12 Acima de tudo, meus irmãos, quando vocês prometerem alguma coisa, não jurem pelo céu, nem pela terra, nem por nada mais. Digam somente “sim”, quando for sim, e “não”, quando for não, para que Deus não os condene.
13 And if ony of you is sorewful, preye he with pacient soule, and seie he a salm.
13 Se algum de vocês está sofrendo, ore. Se alguém está contente, cante hinos de agradecimento.
14 If ony of you is sijk, lede he in preestis of the chirche, and preie thei for hym, and anoynte with oile in the name of the Lord;
14 Se algum de vocês estiver doente, que chame os presbíteros da igreja, para que façam oração e ponham azeite na cabeça dessa pessoa em nome do Senhor.
15 and the preier of feith schal saue the sijk man, and the Lord schal make hym liyt; and if he be in synnes, thei schulen be foryouun to hym.
15 Essa oração, feita com fé, salvará a pessoa doente. O Senhor lhe dará saúde e perdoará os pecados que tiver cometido.
16 Therfor knouleche ye ech to othere youre synnes, and preye ye ech for othere, that ye be sauyd. For the contynuel preyer of a iust man is myche worth.
16 Portanto, confessem os seus pecados uns aos outros e façam oração uns pelos outros, para que vocês sejam curados. A oração de uma pessoa obediente a Deus tem muito poder.
17 Elye was a deedli man lijk vs, and in preier he preiede, that it schulde not reyne on the erthe, and it reynede not thre yeeris and sixe monethis.
17 O profeta Elias era um ser humano como nós. Ele orou com fervor para que não chovesse, e durante três anos e meio não choveu sobre a terra.
18 And eftsoone he preiede, and heuene yaf reyn, and the erthe yaf his fruyt.
18 Depois orou outra vez, e então choveu, e a terra deu a sua colheita.
19 And, britheren, if ony of you errith fro trewthe, and ony conuertith hym,
19 Meus irmãos, se algum de vocês se desviar da verdade, e outro o fizer voltar para o bom caminho,
20 he owith to wite, that he that makith a synner to be turned fro the errour of his weye, schal saue the soule of hym fro deth, and keuereth the multitude of synnes.
20 lembrem disto: quem fizer um pecador voltar do seu mau caminho salvará da morte esse pecador e fará com que muitos pecados sejam perdoados.
