1 James, the seruaunt of God, and of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, to the twelue kinredis, that ben in scatering abrood, helthe.
1 Eu, Tiago, servo de Deus e do Senhor Jesus Cristo, envio saudações a todo o povo de Deus espalhado pelo mundo inteiro.
2 My britheren, deme ye al ioye, whanne ye fallen in to diuerse temptaciouns, witynge,
2 Meus irmãos, sintam-se felizes quando passarem por todo tipo de aflições.
3 that the preuyng of youre feith worchith pacience;
3 Pois vocês sabem que, quando a sua fé vence essas provações, ela produz perseverança.
4 and pacience hath a perfit werk, that ye be perfit and hole, and faile in no thing.
4 Que essa perseverança seja perfeita a fim de que vocês sejam maduros e corretos, não falhando em nada!
5 And if ony of you nedith wisdom, axe he of God, which yyueth to alle men largeli, and vpbreidith not; and it schal be youun to hym.
5 Mas, se alguém tem falta de sabedoria, peça a Deus, e ele a dará porque é generoso e dá com bondade a todos.
6 But axe he in feith, and doute no thing; for he that doutith, is lijk to a wawe of the see, which is moued and borun a boute of wynde.
6 Porém peçam com fé e não duvidem de modo nenhum, pois quem duvida é como as ondas do mar, que o vento leva de um lado para o outro.
7 Therfor gesse not the ilke man, that he schal take ony thing of the Lord.
7 Quem é assim não pense que vai receber alguma coisa do Senhor,
8 A man dowble in soule is vnstable in alle hise weies.
8 pois não tem firmeza e nunca sabe o que deve fazer.
9 And a meke brother haue glorie in his enhaunsyng,
9 O irmão que é pobre deve ficar contente quando Deus faz com que melhore de vida;
10 and a riche man in his lownesse; for as the flour of gras he schal passe.
10 e quem é rico deve sentir o mesmo quando Deus faz com que piore de vida. Pois quem é rico desaparecerá como a flor da erva do campo.
11 The sunne roos vp with heete, and driede the gras, and the flour of it felde doun, and the fairnesse of his chere perischide; and so a riche man welewith in hise weies.
11 Quando o sol brilha forte, e o seu calor queima a planta, aí a flor cai, e a sua beleza é destruída. Do mesmo modo, quem é rico será destruído no meio dos seus negócios.
12 Blessid is the man, that suffrith temptacioun; for whanne he schal be preued, he schal resseyue the coroun of lijf, which God biheyte to men that louen hym.
12 Feliz é aquele que nas aflições continua fiel! Porque, depois de sair aprovado dessas aflições, receberá como prêmio a vida que Deus promete aos que o amam.
13 No man whanne he is temptid, seie, that he is temptid of God; for whi God is not a temptere of yuele thingis, for he temptith no man.
13 Quando alguém for tentado, não diga: “Esta tentação vem de Deus.” Pois Deus não pode ser tentado pelo mal e ele mesmo não tenta ninguém.
14 But ech man is temptid, drawun and stirid of his owne coueiting.
14 Mas as pessoas são tentadas quando são atraídas e enganadas pelos seus próprios maus desejos.
15 Aftirward coueityng, whanne it hath conseyued, bringith forth synne; but synne, whanne it is fillid, gendrith deth.
15 Então esses desejos fazem com que o pecado nasça, e o pecado, quando já está maduro, produz a morte.
16 Therfor, my most dereworthe britheren, nyle ye erre.
16 Não se enganem, meus queridos irmãos.
17 Ech good yifte, and ech perfit yifte is from aboue, and cometh doun fro the fadir of liytis, anentis whom is noon other chaungyng, ne ouerschadewyng of reward.
17 Tudo de bom que recebemos e tudo o que é perfeito vêm do céu, vêm de Deus, o Criador das luzes do céu. Ele não muda, nem varia de posição, o que causaria a escuridão.
18 For wilfulli he bigat vs bi the word of treuthe, that we be a bigynnyng of his creature.
18 Pela sua própria vontade ele fez com que nós nascêssemos , por meio da palavra da verdade, a fim de ocuparmos o primeiro lugar entre todas as suas criaturas.
19 Wite ye, my britheren moost loued, be ech man swift to here, but slow to speke, and slow to wraththe;
19 Lembrem disto, meus queridos irmãos: cada um esteja pronto para ouvir, mas demore para falar e ficar com raiva.
20 for the wraththe of man worchith not the riytwisnesse of God.
20 Porque a raiva humana não produz o que Deus aprova.
21 For which thing caste ye awei al vnclennesse, and plentee of malice, and in myldenesse resseyue ye the word that is plauntid, that may saue youre soulis.
21 Portanto, deixem todo costume imoral e toda má conduta. Aceitem com humildade a mensagem que Deus planta no coração de vocês, a qual pode salvá-los.
22 But be ye doeris of the word, and not hereris oneli, disseiuynge you silf.
22 Não se enganem; não sejam apenas ouvintes dessa mensagem, mas a ponham em prática.
23 For if ony man is an herere of the word, and not a doere, this schal be licned to a man that biholdith the cheer of his birthe in a mirour;
23 Porque aquele que ouve a mensagem e não a põe em prática é como uma pessoa que olha no espelho e vê como é.
24 for he bihelde hym silf, and wente awei, and anoon he foryat which he was.
24 Dá uma boa olhada, depois vai embora e logo esquece a sua aparência.
25 But he that biholdith in the lawe of perfit fredom, and dwellith in it, and is not maad a foryetful herere, but a doere of werk, this schal be blessid in his dede.
25 O evangelho é a lei perfeita que dá liberdade às pessoas. Se alguém examina bem essa lei e não a esquece, mas a põe em prática, Deus vai abençoar tudo o que essa pessoa fizer.
26 And if ony man gessith hym silf to be religiouse, and refreyneth not his tunge, but disseyueth his herte, the religioun of him is veyn.
26 Alguém está pensando que é religioso? Se não souber controlar a língua, a sua religião não vale nada, e ele está enganando a si mesmo.
27 A clene religioun, and an vnwemmed anentis God and the fadir, is this, to visite fadirles and modirles children, and widewis in her tribulacioun, and to kepe hym silf vndefoulid fro this world.
27 Para Deus, o Pai, a religião pura e verdadeira é esta: ajudar os órfãos e as viúvas nas suas aflições e não se manchar com as coisas más deste mundo.
