1 Therfor Y seie, Whether God hath put awei his puple? God forbede. For Y am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the lynage of Beniamyn.
1 Pergunto, pois: terá Deus, porventura, rejeitado o seu povo? De modo nenhum! Porque eu também sou israelita da descendência de Abraão, da tribo de Benjamim.
2 God hath not put awei his puple, which he bifor knew. Whether ye witen not, what the scripture seith in Elie? Hou he preieth God ayens Israel,
2 Deus não rejeitou o seu povo, a quem de antemão conheceu. Ou não sabeis o que a Escritura refere a respeito de Elias, como insta perante Deus contra Israel, dizendo:
3 Lord, thei han slayn thi prophetis, thei han vndurdoluun thin auteris, and Y am lefte aloone, and thei seken my lijf.
3 Senhor, mataram os teus profetas, arrasaram os teus altares, e só eu fiquei, e procuram tirar-me a vida.
4 But what seith Goddis answere to hym? Y haue left to me seuene thousyndes of men, that han not bowid her knees bifore Baal.
4 Que lhe disse, porém, a resposta divina? Reservei para mim sete mil homens, que não dobraram os joelhos diante de Baal.
5 So therfor also in this tyme, the relifs ben maad saaf, bi the chesyng of the grace of God.
5 Assim, pois, também agora, no tempo de hoje, sobrevive um remanescente segundo a eleição da graça.
6 And if it be bi the grace of God, it is not now of werkis; ellis grace is not now grace.
6 E, se é pela graça, já não é pelas obras; do contrário, a graça já não é graça.
7 What thanne? Israel hath not getun this that he souyte, but eleccioun hath getun; and the othere ben blyndid.
7 Que diremos, pois? O que Israel busca, isso não conseguiu; mas a eleição o alcançou; e os mais foram endurecidos,
8 As it is writun, God yaf to hem a spirit of compunccioun, iyen that thei se not, and eeris, that thei here not, in to this dai.
8 como está escrito: Deus lhes deu espírito de entorpecimento, olhos para não ver e ouvidos para não ouvir, até ao dia de hoje.
9 And Dauith seith, Be the boord of hem maad in to a gryn bifor hem, and in to catchyng, and in to sclaundre, and in to yeldyng to hem.
9 E diz Davi: Torne-se-lhes a mesa em laço e armadilha, em tropeço e punição;
10 Be the iyen of hem maad derk, that thei se not; and bowe thou doun algatis the bak of hem.
10 escureçam-se-lhes os olhos, para que não vejam, e fiquem para sempre encurvadas as suas costas.
11 Therfor Y seie, Whether thei offendiden so, that thei schulden falle doun? God forbede. But bi the gilt of hem helthe is maad to hethene men, that thei sue hem.
11 Pergunto, pois: porventura, tropeçaram para que caíssem? De modo nenhum! Mas, pela sua transgressão, veio a salvação aos gentios, para pô-los em ciúmes.
12 That if the gilt of hem ben richessis of the world, and the makyng lesse of hem ben richessis of hethene men, hou myche more the plente of hem?
12 Ora, se a transgressão deles redundou em riqueza para o mundo, e o seu abatimento, em riqueza para os gentios, quanto mais a sua plenitude!
13 But Y seie to you, hethene men, for as longe as Y am apostle of hethene men, Y schal onoure my mynysterie,
13 Dirijo-me a vós outros, que sois gentios! Visto, pois, que eu sou apóstolo dos gentios, glorifico o meu ministério,
14 if in ony maner Y stire my fleisch for to folowe, and that Y make summe of hem saaf.
14 para ver se, de algum modo, posso incitar à emulação os do meu povo e salvar alguns deles.
15 For if the loss of hem is the recouncelyng of the world, what is the takyng vp, but lijf of deede men?
15 Porque, se o fato de terem sido eles rejeitados trouxe reconciliação ao mundo, que será o seu restabelecimento, senão vida dentre os mortos?
16 For if a litil part of that that is tastid be hooli, the hool gobet is hooli; and if the roote is hooli, also the braunchis.
16 E, se forem santas as primícias da massa, igualmente o será a sua totalidade; se for santa a raiz, também os ramos o serão.
17 What if ony of the braunchis ben brokun, whanne thou were a wielde olyue tre, art graffid among hem, and art maad felowe of the roote, and of the fatnesse of the olyue tre,
17 Se, porém, alguns dos ramos foram quebrados, e tu, sendo oliveira brava, foste enxertado em meio deles e te tornaste participante da raiz e da seiva da oliveira,
18 nyle thou haue glorie ayens the braunchis. For if thou gloriest, thou berist not the roote, but the roote thee.
18 não te glories contra os ramos; porém, se te gloriares, sabe que não és tu que sustentas a raiz, mas a raiz, a ti.
19 Therfor thou seist, The braunchis ben brokun, that Y be graffid in.
19 Dirás, pois: Alguns ramos foram quebrados, para que eu fosse enxertado.
20 Wel, for vnbileue the braunchis ben brokun; but thou stondist bi feith. Nyle thou sauere hiye thing,
20 Bem! Pela sua incredulidade, foram quebrados; tu, porém, mediante a fé, estás firme. Não te ensoberbeças, mas teme.
21 but drede thou, for if God sparide not the kyndli braunchis, lest perauenture he spare not thee.
21 Porque, se Deus não poupou os ramos naturais, também não te poupará.
22 Therfor se the goodnesse, and the fersnesse of God; yhe, the feersnesse in to hem that felden doun, but the goodnesse of God in to thee, if thou dwellist in goodnesse, ellis also thou schalt be kit doun.
22 Considerai, pois, a bondade e a severidade de Deus: para com os que caíram, severidade; mas, para contigo, a bondade de Deus, se nela permaneceres; doutra sorte, também tu serás cortado.
23 Yhe, and thei schulen be set yn, if thei dwellen not in vnbileue. For God is myyti, to sette hem in eftsoone.
23 Eles também, se não permanecerem na incredulidade, serão enxertados; pois Deus é poderoso para os enxertar de novo.
24 For if thou art kit doun of the kyndeli wielde olyue tre, and ayens kynd art set in to a good olyue tre, hou myche more thei that ben bi kynde, schulen be set in her olyue tree?
24 Pois, se foste cortado da que, por natureza, era oliveira brava e, contra a natureza, enxertado em boa oliveira, quanto mais não serão enxertados na sua própria oliveira aqueles que são ramos naturais!
25 But, britheren, Y wole not that ye vnknowen this mysterie, that ye be not wise to you silf; for blyndenesse hath feld a parti in Israel, til that the plente of hethene men entride,
25 Porque não quero, irmãos, que ignoreis este mistério (para que não sejais presumidos em vós mesmos): que veio endurecimento em parte a Israel, até que haja entrado a plenitude dos gentios.
26 and so al Israel schulde be maad saaf. As it is writun, He schal come of Syon, that schal delyuere, and turne awei the wickidnesse of Jacob.
26 E, assim, todo o Israel será salvo, como está escrito: Virá de Sião o Libertador e ele apartará de Jacó as impiedades.
27 And this testament to hem of me, whanne Y schal do awei her synnes.
27 Esta é a minha aliança com eles, quando eu tirar os seus pecados.
28 Aftir the gospel thei ben enemyes for you, but thei ben moost dereworthe bi the eleccioun for the fadris.
28 Quanto ao evangelho, são eles inimigos por vossa causa; quanto, porém, à eleição, amados por causa dos patriarcas;
29 And the yiftis and the cleping of God ben with outen forthenkyng.
29 porque os dons e a vocação de Deus são irrevogáveis.
30 And as sum tyme also ye bileueden not to God, but now ye han gete mercy for the vnbileue of hem;
30 Porque assim como vós também, outrora, fostes desobedientes a Deus, mas, agora, alcançastes misericórdia, à vista da desobediência deles,
31 so and these now bileueden not in to youre merci, that also thei geten merci.
31 assim também estes, agora, foram desobedientes, para que, igualmente, eles alcancem misericórdia, à vista da que vos foi concedida.
32 For God closide alle thingis togidere in vnbileue, that he haue mercy on alle.
32 Porque Deus a todos encerrou na desobediência, a fim de usar de misericórdia para com todos.
33 O! the heiynesse of the ritchessis of the wisdom and of the kunnyng of God; hou incomprehensible ben hise domes, and hise weies ben vnserchable.
33 Ó profundidade da riqueza, tanto da sabedoria como do conhecimento de Deus! Quão insondáveis são os seus juízos, e quão inescrutáveis, os seus caminhos!
34 For whi who knew the wit of the Lord, or who was his counselour? or who formere yaf to hym,
34 Quem, pois, conheceu a mente do Senhor? Ou quem foi o seu conselheiro?
35 and it schal be quyt to hym?
35 Ou quem primeiro deu a ele para que lhe venha a ser restituído?
36 For of hym, and bi hym, and in hym ben alle thingis. To hym be glorie in to worldis. Amen.
36 Porque dele, e por meio dele, e para ele são todas as coisas. A ele, pois, a glória eternamente. Amém!
