1 Takith hede, that ye do not youre riytwisnesse bifor men, to be seyn of hem, ellis ye schulen haue no meede at youre fadir that is in heuenes.
1 — Tenham o cuidado de não praticarem os seus deveres religiosos em público a fim de serem vistos pelos outros. Se vocês agirem assim, não receberão nenhuma recompensa do Pai de vocês, que está no céu.
2 Therfore whanne thou doist almes, nyle thou trumpe tofore thee, as ypocritis doon in synagogis and stretis, that thei be worschipid of men; sotheli Y seie to you, they han resseyued her meede.
2 — Quando você der alguma coisa a uma pessoa necessitada, não fique contando o que fez, como os hipócritas fazem nas
3 But whanne thou doist almes, knowe not thi left hond what thi riyt hond doith, that thin almes be in hidils,
3 Mas você, quando ajudar alguma pessoa necessitada, faça isso de tal modo que nem mesmo o seu amigo mais íntimo fique sabendo do que você fez.
4 and thi fadir that seeth in hiddils, schal quyte thee.
4 Isso deve ficar em segredo; e o seu Pai, que vê o que você faz em segredo, lhe dará a recompensa.
5 And whanne ye preyen, ye schulen not be as ipocritis, that louen to preye stondynge in synagogis and corneris of stretis, to be seyn of men; treuli Y seie to you, thei han resseyued her meede.
5 — Quando vocês orarem, não sejam como os hipócritas. Eles gostam de orar de pé nas
6 But whanne thou schalt preye, entre in to thi couche, and whanne the dore is schet, preye thi fadir in hidils, and thi fadir that seeth in hidils, schal yelde to thee.
6 Mas você, quando orar, vá para o seu quarto, feche a porta e ore ao seu Pai, que não pode ser visto. E o seu Pai, que vê o que você faz em segredo, lhe dará a recompensa.
7 But in preiyng nyle yee speke myche, as hethene men doon, for thei gessen that thei ben herd in her myche speche.
7 — Nas suas orações, não fiquem repetindo o que vocês já disseram, como fazem os pagãos. Eles pensam que Deus os ouvirá porque fazem orações compridas.
8 Therfor nyle ye be maad lich to hem, for your fadir woot what is nede to you, bifore that ye axen hym.
8 Não sejam como eles, pois, antes de vocês pedirem, o Pai de vocês já sabe o que vocês precisam.
9 And thus ye schulen preye, Oure fadir that art in heuenes, halewid be thi name;
9 Portanto, orem assim:
10 thi kyngdoom come to; be thi wille don `in erthe as in heuene;
10 Venha o teu
11 yyue to vs this dai oure `breed ouer othir substaunce;
11 Dá-nos hoje o alimento que precisamos.
12 and foryyue to vs oure dettis, as we foryyuen to oure dettouris; and lede vs not in to temptacioun,
12 Perdoa as nossas ofensas
13 but delyuere vs fro yuel.
13 E não deixes que sejamos tentados,
14 Amen. For if ye foryyuen to men her synnes, youre heuenli fadir schal foryyue to you youre trespassis.
14 — Porque, se vocês perdoarem as pessoas que ofenderem vocês, o Pai de vocês, que está no céu, também perdoará vocês.
15 Sotheli if ye foryyuen not to men, nether youre fadir schal foryyue to you youre synnes.
15 Mas, se não perdoarem essas pessoas, o Pai de vocês também não perdoará as ofensas de vocês.
16 But whanne ye fasten, nyle ye be maad as ypocritis sorewful, for thei defacen hem silf, to seme fastyng to men; treuli Y seie to you, they han resseyued her meede.
16 — Quando vocês jejuarem, não façam uma cara triste como fazem os hipócritas, pois eles fazem isso para todos saberem que eles estão jejuando. Eu afirmo a vocês que isto é verdade: eles já receberam a sua recompensa.
17 But whanne thou fastist, anoynte thin heed, and waische thi face,
17 Mas você, quando jejuar, lave o rosto e penteie o cabelo
18 that thou be not seen fastynge to men, but to thi fadir that is in hidlis, and thi fadir that seeth in priuey, shal yelde to thee.
18 para os outros não saberem que você está jejuando. E somente o seu Pai, que não pode ser visto, saberá que você está jejuando. E o seu Pai, que vê o que você faz em segredo, lhe dará a recompensa.
19 Nile ye tresoure to you tresouris in erthe, where ruste and mouyte destrieth, and where theues deluen out and stelen;
19 — Não ajuntem riquezas aqui na terra, onde as traças e a ferrugem destroem, e onde os ladrões arrombam e roubam.
20 but gadere to you tresouris in heuene, where nether ruste ne mouyte distrieth, and where theues deluen not out, ne stelen.
20 Pelo contrário, ajuntem riquezas no céu, onde as traças e a ferrugem não podem destruí-las, e os ladrões não podem arrombar e roubá-las.
21 For where thi tresoure is, there also thin herte is.
21 Pois onde estiverem as suas riquezas, aí estará o coração de vocês.
22 The lanterne of thi bodi is thin iye; if thin iye be symple, al thi bodi shal be liytful;
22 — Os olhos são como uma luz para o corpo: quando os olhos de vocês são bons, todo o seu corpo fica cheio de luz.
23 but if thin iye be weiward, al thi bodi shal be derk. If thanne the liyt that is in thee be derknessis, how grete schulen thilk derknessis be?
23 Porém, se os seus olhos forem maus, o seu corpo ficará cheio de escuridão. Assim, se a luz que está em você virar escuridão, como será terrível essa escuridão!
24 No man may serue tweyn lordis, for ethir he schal hate `the toon, and loue the tother; ethir he shal susteyne `the toon, and dispise the tothir. Ye moun not serue God and richessis.
24 — Um escravo não pode servir a dois donos ao mesmo tempo, pois vai rejeitar um e preferir o outro; ou será fiel a um e desprezará o outro. Vocês não podem servir a Deus e também servir ao dinheiro.
25 Therfor I seie to you, that ye be not bisi to youre lijf, what ye schulen ete; nether to youre bodi, with what ye schulen be clothid. Whether lijf is not more than meete, and the bodie more than cloth?
25 — Por isso eu digo a vocês: não se preocupem com a comida e com a bebida que precisam para viver nem com a roupa que precisam para se vestir. Afinal, será que a vida não é mais importante do que a comida? E será que o corpo não é mais importante do que as roupas?
26 Biholde ye the foulis of the eire, for thei sowen not, nethir repen, nethir gaderen in to bernes; and youre fadir of heuene fedith hem. Whether ye ben not more worthi than thei?
26 Vejam os passarinhos que voam pelo céu: eles não semeiam, não colhem, nem guardam comida em depósitos. No entanto, o Pai de vocês, que está no céu, dá de comer a eles. Será que vocês não valem muito mais do que os passarinhos?
27 But who of you thenkynge mai putte to his stature o cubit?
27 E nenhum de vocês pode encompridar a sua vida, por mais que se preocupe com isso.
28 And of clothing what ben ye bisye? Biholde ye the lilies of the feeld, how thei wexen. Thei trauelen not, nether spynnen;
28 — E por que vocês se preocupam com roupas? Vejam como crescem as flores do campo: elas não trabalham, nem fazem roupas para si mesmas.
29 and Y seie to you, Salomon in al his glorie was not keuered as oon of these.
29 Mas eu afirmo a vocês que nem mesmo Salomão, sendo tão rico, usava roupas tão bonitas como essas flores.
30 And if God clothith thus the hei of the feeld, that to day is, and to morewe is cast in to an ouen, hou myche more you of litel feith?
30 É Deus quem veste a erva do campo, que hoje dá flor e amanhã desaparece, queimada no forno. Então é claro que ele vestirá também vocês, que têm uma fé tão pequena!
31 Therfor nyle ye be bisi, seiynge, What schulen we ete? or, What schulen we drinke? or, With what thing schulen we be keuered?
31 Portanto, não fiquem preocupados, perguntando: “Onde é que vamos arranjar comida?” ou “Onde é que vamos arranjar bebida?” ou “Onde é que vamos arranjar roupas?”
32 For hethene men seken alle these thingis; and youre fadir woot, that ye han nede to alle these thingis.
32 Pois os pagãos é que estão sempre procurando essas coisas. O Pai de vocês, que está no céu, sabe que vocês precisam de tudo isso.
33 Therfor seke ye first the kyngdom of God, and his riytfulnesse, and alle these thingis shulen be cast to you.
33 Portanto, ponham em primeiro lugar na sua vida o
34 Therfor nyle ye be bisy in to the morew, for the morew shal be bisi to `hym silf; for it suffisith to the dai his owen malice.
34 Por isso, não fiquem preocupados com o dia de amanhã, pois o dia de amanhã trará as suas próprias preocupações. Para cada dia bastam as suas próprias dificuldades.
