1 And the word of the Lord was maad to me,
1 A palavra do Senhor veio a mim, dizendo:
2 and he seide, What is it, that ye turnen a parable among you in to this prouerbe, in the lond of Israel, and seien, Fadris eeten a bittir grape, and the teeth of sones ben an egge, ether astonyed?
2 — O que vocês querem dizer, vocês que ficam repetindo este provérbio a respeito da terra de Israel: “Os pais comeram uvas verdes, e os dentes dos filhos é que se embotaram”?
3 Y lyue, seith the Lord God, this parable schal no more be in to a prouerbe to you in Israel.
3 Tão certo como eu vivo, diz o Senhor Deus, vocês nunca mais repetirão esse provérbio em Israel.
4 Lo! alle soulis ben myne; as the soule of the fadir, so and the soule of the sone is myn. Thilke soule that doith synne, schal die.
4 Eis que todas as pessoas são minhas. Assim como a pessoa do pai, também a pessoa do filho é minha. A pessoa que pecar, essa morrerá.
5 And if a man is iust, and doith doom and riytfulnesse,
5 — Se um homem é justo e age com justiça e retidão —
6 etith not in hillis, and reisith not hise iyen to the idols of the hous of Israel; and defoulith not the wijf of his neiybore, and neiyeth not to a womman defoulid with vncleene blood;
6 não come carne sacrificada nos altos nem levanta os olhos para os ídolos da casa de Israel; não contamina a mulher do seu próximo nem tem relações com a mulher menstruada;
7 and makith not a man sori, yeldith the wed to the dettour, rauyschith no thing bi violence, yyueth his breed to the hungri, and hilith a nakid man with a cloth;
7 não oprime ninguém, mas devolve ao devedor a coisa penhorada e não rouba; reparte o seu pão com o faminto e cobre com roupas aquele que está nu;
8 leeneth not to vsure, and takith not more; turneth awei his hond fro wickidnesse, and makith trewe dom bitwixe man and man;
8 não empresta para ter lucro e não cobra juros; desvia a sua mão da injustiça e é imparcial ao julgar uma questão entre duas pessoas;
9 and goith in my comaundementis, and kepith my domes, that he do treuthe; this is a iust man, he schal lyue in lijf, seith the Lord God.
9 anda nos meus estatutos e guarda os meus juízos, procedendo retamente —, esse tal é justo e certamente viverá, diz o Senhor Deus.
10 That if he gendrith a sone, a theef, shedinge out blood,
10 — Se ele gerar um filho ladrão, assassino, que fizer a seu irmão qualquer uma dessas coisas
11 and doith oon of thes thingis, and sotheli not doing alle these thingis, but etinge in hillis, and defoulynge the wijf of his neiybore;
11 que o pai nunca cometeu, mas comer carne sacrificada nos altos, contaminar a mulher de seu próximo,
12 makynge soreuful a nedy man and pore, rauyschynge raueyns, not yeldinge a wed, reisynge hise iyen to idols, doynge abhomynacioun; yiuynge to vsure, and takynge more;
12 oprimir o pobre e necessitado, praticar roubos, não devolver o penhor, levantar os olhos para os ídolos, cometer abominação,
13 whether he schal lyue? he schal not lyue; whanne he hath do alle these abhomynable thingis, he schal die bi deth, his blood schal be in hym.
13 emprestar para ter lucro e cobrar juros, será que esse viverá? Não viverá. Ele fez todas estas abominações e será morto; é responsável pela própria morte.
14 That if he gendrith a sone, which seeth alle the synnes of his fadir, whiche he dide, and dredith, and doith noon lijk tho;
14 — E, se esse filho gerar um filho que veja todos os pecados que o pai cometeu, e, vendo-os, não fizer coisas semelhantes,
15 etith not on hillis, and reisith not hise iyen to the idols of the hous of Israel; and defoulith not the wijf of his neiybore,
15 não comer carne sacrificada nos altos, não levantar os olhos para os ídolos da casa de Israel, não contaminar a mulher de seu próximo,
16 and makith not sori a man, witholdith not a wed, and rauyschith not raueyn, yyueth his breed to the hungri, and hilith the nakid with a cloth;
16 não oprimir ninguém, não retiver o penhor, não roubar, repartir o seu pão com o faminto, cobrir com roupas aquele que está nu,
17 turneth a wei his hond fro the wrong of a pore man, takith not vsure and ouerhabundaunce, `that is, no thing more than he lente, and doith my domes, and goith in my comaundementis; this sone schal not die in the wickidnesse of his fadir, but he schal lyue in lijf.
17 desviar a sua mão da injustiça, não emprestar para ter lucro nem cobrar juros, executar os meus juízos e andar nos meus estatutos, esse tal não morrerá por causa da iniquidade de seu pai; certamente viverá.
18 For his fadir made fals caleng, and dide violence to his brother, and wrouyte yuel in the myddis of his puple, lo! he is deed in his wickidnesse.
18 Quanto ao pai dele, porque praticou extorsão, roubou os bens do próximo e fez o que não era bom no meio de seu povo, eis que ele morrerá por causa de sua iniquidade.
19 And ye seien, Whi berith not the sone the wickidnesse of the fadir? That is to seie, for the sone wrouyte doom and riytfulnesse, he kepte alle my comaundementis, and dide tho, he schal lyue in lijf.
19 — Mas vocês perguntam: “Por que o filho não paga pela iniquidade do pai?” Porque o filho fez o que era justo e reto. Ele guardou todos os meus estatutos e os praticou. Por isso, certamente viverá.
20 Thilke soule that doith synne, schal die; the sone schal not bere the wickidnesse of the fadir, and the fadir schal not bere the wickednesse of the sone; the riytfulnesse of a iust man schal be on hym, and the wickidnesse of a wickid man schal be on hym.
20 A pessoa que pecar, essa morrerá. O filho não pagará pela iniquidade do pai, nem o pai pagará pela iniquidade do filho. A justiça do justo ficará sobre ele, e a maldade do ímpio cairá sobre este.
21 Forsothe if a wickid man doith penaunce of alle hise synnes whiche he wrouyte, and kepith alle myn heestis, and doith dom and riytfulnesse, he schal lyue bi lijf, and schal not die.
21 — Mas, se o ímpio se converter de todos os pecados que cometeu, e guardar todos os meus estatutos, e fizer o que é justo e reto, certamente viverá; não será morto.
22 Y schal not haue mynde of alle his wickidnessis whiche he wrouyte; he schal lyue in his riytfulnesse which he wrouyte.
22 De todas as transgressões que cometeu, nenhuma será lembrada contra ele; pela justiça que praticou, viverá.
23 Whether the deth of the wickid man is of my wille, seith the Lord God, and not that he be conuertid fro his weies, and lyue?
23 — Vocês pensam que eu tenho prazer na morte do ímpio? — diz o Senhor Deus. Não desejo eu muito mais que ele se converta dos seus caminhos e viva?
24 Forsothe if a iust man turneth awey hym silf fro his riytfulnesse, and doith wickidnesse bi alle hise abhomynaciouns, which a wickid man is wont to worche, whether he schal lyue? Alle hise riytfulnessis whiche he dide, schulen not be had in mynde; in his trespassyng bi which he trespasside, and in his synne which he synnede, he schal die in tho.
24 Mas, se o justo se desviar da sua justiça e fizer maldade, fazendo as mesmas abominações que o ímpio faz, será que ele viverá? De todos os atos de justiça que praticou, nenhum será lembrado; na sua transgressão com que transgrediu e no seu pecado que cometeu, neles morrerá.
25 And ye seiden, The weie of the Lord is not euene. Therfor, the hous of Israel, here ye, whether my weie is not euene, and not more youre weies ben schrewid?
25 — No entanto, vocês dizem: “O caminho do Senhor não é reto.” Então escute, ó casa de Israel: Será que é o meu caminho que não é reto? Não seriam muito mais os caminhos de vocês que são tortuosos?
26 For whanne a riytful man turneth awei hym silf fro his riytfulnesse, and doith wickidnesse, he schal die in it, he schal die in the vnriytwisnesse which he wrouyte.
26 Se o justo se desviar da sua justiça e fizer maldade, morrerá por causa dela; na iniquidade que cometeu, morrerá.
27 And whanne a wickid man turneth awei him silf fro his wickidnesse which he wrouyte, and doith dom and riytfulnesse, he schal quykene his soule.
27 Mas, se o ímpio se converter da maldade que cometeu e praticar o que é justo e reto, ele preservará a sua vida.
28 For he biholdinge and turnynge awei hym silf fro alle hise wickidnessis which he wrouyte, schal lyue in lijf, and schal not die.
28 Pois se ele percebe o que fez e se converte de todas as transgressões que cometeu, certamente viverá; não será morto.
29 And the sones of Israel seien, The weie of the Lord is not euene. Whether my weies ben not euene, ye hous of Israel, and not more youre weies ben schrewid?
29 No entanto, a casa de Israel diz: “O caminho do Senhor não é reto.” Será que são os meus caminhos que não são retos, ó casa de Israel? Não seriam muito mais os caminhos de vocês que são tortuosos?
30 Therfor, thou hous of Israel, Y schal deme ech man bi hise weies, seith the Lord God. Turne ye togidere, and do ye penaunce for alle youre wickidnessis, and wickidnesse schal not be to you in to falling.
30 — Portanto, eu os julgarei, cada um segundo os seus caminhos, ó casa de Israel, diz o Senhor Deus. Convertam-se e afastem-se de todas as suas transgressões, para que a iniquidade não lhes sirva de tropeço.
31 Caste awei fro you alle youre trespassingis, bi whiche ye trespassiden, and make ye a newe herte and a newe spirit to you, and whi schulen ye die, the hous of Israel?
31 Livrem-se de todas as transgressões que vocês cometeram e façam para vocês um coração novo e um espírito novo. Por que vocês haveriam de morrer, ó casa de Israel?
32 For Y nyle the deeth of hym that dieth, seith the Lord God; turne ye ayen, and lyue ye.
32 Eu não tenho prazer na morte de ninguém, diz o Senhor Deus. Portanto, convertam-se e vivam.
