1 And the Lord spak alle these wordis, Y am thi Lord God,
1 Deus falou, e foi isto o que ele disse:
2 that ladde thee out of the lond of Egipt, fro the hous of seruage.
2 — Meu povo, eu, o Senhor , sou o seu Deus. Eu o tirei do Egito, a terra onde você era escravo.
3 Thou schalt not haue alien goddis bifore me.
3 — Não adore outros deuses; adore somente a mim.
4 Thou schalt not make to thee a grauun ymage, nethir ony licnesse of thing which is in heuene aboue, and which is in erthe bynethe, nether of tho thingis, that ben in watris vndur erthe; thou schalt not `herie tho,
4 — Não faça imagens de nenhuma coisa que há lá em cima no céu, ou aqui embaixo na terra, ou nas águas debaixo da terra .
5 nether `thou schalt worschipe; for Y am thi Lord God, a stronge gelouse louyere; and Y visite the wickidnesse of fadris in to the thridde and the fourthe generacioun of hem that haten me,
5 Não se ajoelhe diante de ídolos, nem os adore, pois eu, o Senhor , sou o seu Deus e não tolero outros deuses. Eu castigo aqueles que me odeiam, até os seus bisnetos e trinetos.
6 and Y do mercy in to `a thousynde, to hem that louen me, and kepen myn heestis.
6 Porém sou bondoso com aqueles que me amam e obedecem aos meus mandamentos e abençoo os seus descendentes por milhares de gerações .
7 Thou schalt not take in veyn the name of thi Lord God, for the Lord schal not haue hym giltles, that takith in veyn the name of his Lord God.
7 — Não use o meu nome sem o respeito que ele merece; pois eu sou o Senhor , o Deus de vocês, e castigo aqueles que desrespeitam o meu nome.
8 Haue thou mynde, that thou halowe the `dai of the sabat;
8 — Guarde o sábado, que é um dia santo.
9 in sixe daies thou schalt worche and schalt do alle thi werkis;
9 Faça todo o seu trabalho durante seis dias da semana;
10 forsothe in the seuenthe day is the sabat of thi Lord God; thou schalt not do ony werk, thou, and thi sone, and thi douytir, and thi seruaunt, and thin handmaide, thi werk beeste, and the comelyng which is withynne thi yatis;
10 mas o sétimo dia da semana é o dia de descanso, dedicado a mim, o Senhor , seu Deus. Não faça nenhum trabalho nesse dia, nem você, nem os seus filhos, nem as suas filhas, nem os seus escravos, nem as suas escravas, nem os seus animais, nem os estrangeiros que vivem na terra de vocês.
11 for in sixe dayes God made heuene and erthe, the see, and alle thingis that ben in tho, and restide in the seuenthe dai; herfor the Lord blesside the `dai of the sabat, and halewide it.
11 Em seis dias eu, o Senhor , fiz o céu, a terra, o mar e tudo o que há neles, mas no sétimo dia descansei. Foi por isso que eu, o Senhor , abençoei o sábado e o separei para ser um dia santo.
12 Onoure thi fadir and thi moder, that thou be long lyuyng on the lond, which thi Lord God schal yyue to thee.
12 — Respeite o seu pai e a sua mãe, para que você viva muito tempo na terra que estou lhe dando.
13 Thou schalt not sle.
13 — Não mate.
14 Thou schalt `do no letcherie.
14 — Não cometa adultério.
15 Thou schalt `do no theft.
15 — Não roube.
16 Thou schalt not speke fals witnessyng ayens thi neiybore.
16 — Não dê testemunho falso contra ninguém.
17 Thou schalt not coueyte `the hous of thi neiybore, nether thou schalt desyre his wijf, not seruaunt, not handmaide, not oxe, not asse, nether alle thingis that ben hise.
17 — Não cobice a casa de outro homem. Não cobice a sua mulher, os seus escravos, o seu gado, os seus jumentos ou qualquer outra coisa que seja dele.
18 Forsothe al the puple herde voices, and siy laumpis, and the sowne of a clarioun, and the hil smokynge; and thei weren afeerd, and schakun with inward drede, and stoden afer,
18 O povo ouviu os trovões e o som da trombeta e viu os relâmpagos e a fumaça que saía do monte. Então eles tremeram de medo e ficaram de longe.
19 and seiden to Moises, Speke thou to vs, and we schulen here; the Lord speke not to vs, lest perauenture we dien.
19 E disseram a Moisés: — Se você falar, nós ouviremos; mas, se Deus falar conosco, nós seremos mortos.
20 And Moises seide to the puple, Nyle ye drede, for God cam to proue you, and that his drede schulde be in you, and that ye schulden not do synne.
20 Então Moisés respondeu: — Não tenham medo, pois Deus só quer pôr vocês à prova. Ele quer que vocês continuem a
21 And the puple stood afer; forsothe Moises neiyede to the derknesse, wherynne God was.
21 E o povo ficou em pé de longe, e somente Moisés chegou perto da nuvem escura onde Deus estava.
22 And the Lord seide ferthermore to Moises, Thou schalt seie these thingis to the sones of Israel, Ye seiyen that fro heuene Y spak to you;
22 Então o Senhor ordenou que Moisés dissesse aos israelitas o seguinte: — Vocês viram que lá do céu eu lhes falei.
23 ye schulen not make goddis of silver, nethir ye schulen make to you goddis of gold.
23 Não façam deuses de prata ou de ouro para adorá-los ao mesmo tempo que vocês adoram a mim.
24 Ye schulen make an auter of erthe to me, and ye schulen offre theronne youre brent sacrifices, and pesible sacrifices, youre scheep, and oxun, in ech place in which the mynde of my name schal be; Y schal come to thee, and Y schal blesse thee.
24 Façam um altar de terra para mim e em cima dele ofereçam as suas ovelhas e os seus bois como sacrifícios que serão completamente queimados e como ofertas de paz. Eu separarei lugares para que neles vocês me adorem, e nesses lugares eu me encontrarei com vocês e os abençoarei.
25 That if thou schalt make an auter of stoon to me, thou schalt not bilde it of stoonys hewun; for if thou schalt reise thi knyif theronne, it schal be `polluted, ether defoulid.
25 Se fizerem um altar de pedras para mim, não usem pedras cortadas com ferramentas. Pois na construção do meu altar não poderão ser usadas pedras cortadas com ferramentas.
26 Thou schalt not stye bi grees to myn auter, lest thi filthe be schewid.
26 Não façam o meu altar com degraus; porque, se fizerem, a nudez de vocês vai aparecer ali.
