1 Quando ficou decidido que navegaríamos para a Itália, Paulo e alguns outros presos foram entregues a um centurião chamado Júlio, que pertencia ao Regimento Imperial.
2 And we wenten vp in to the schip of Adrymetis, and bigunnen to seile, and weren borun aboute the placis of Asie, while Aristark of Macedonye, Tessalonycence, dwellide stille with vs.
2 Embarcamos num navio de Adramítio, que estava de partida para alguns lugares da província da Ásia, e saímos ao mar, estando conosco Aristarco, um macedônio de Tessalônica.
3 And in the dai suynge, we camen to Sydon; and Julius tretyde curteisli Poul, and suffride to go to frendis, and do his nedis.
3 No dia seguinte, ancoramos em Sidom; e Júlio, num gesto de bondade para com Paulo, permitiu-lhe que fosse ao encontro dos seus amigos, para que estes suprissem as suas necessidades.
4 And whanne we remouede fro thennus, we vndurseiliden to Cipre, for that wyndis weren contrarie.
4 Quando partimos de lá, passamos ao norte de Chipre, porque os ventos nos eram contrários.
5 And we seiliden in the see of Silicie and Pamfilie, and camen to Listris, that is Licie.
5 Tendo atravessado o mar aberto ao longo da Cilícia e da Panfília, ancoramos em Mirra, na Lícia.
6 And there the centurien foond a schip of Alisaundre, seilinge in to Ytalie, and puttide vs ouer in to it.
6 Ali, o centurião encontrou um navio alexandrino que estava de partida para a Itália e nele nos fez embarcar.
7 And whanne in many daies we seilden slowli, and vnnethe camen ayens Guydum, for the winde lettide vs, we seiliden to Crete, bisidis Salomona.
7 Navegamos vagarosamente por muitos dias e tivemos dificuldade para chegar a Cnido. Não sendo possível prosseguir em nossa rota, devido aos ventos contrários, navegamos ao sul de Creta, defronte a Salmona.
8 And vnnethe we seilden bisidis, and camen into a place, that is clepid of good hauen, to whom the cite Tessala was niy.
8 Costeamos a ilha com dificuldade e chegamos a um lugar chamado Bons Portos, perto da cidade de Laséia.
9 And whanne miche time was passid, and whanne seiling thanne was not sikir, for that fasting was passid, Poul coumfortide hem,
9 Tínhamos perdido muito tempo, e agora a navegação se tornara perigosa, pois já havia passado o Jejum. Por isso Paulo os advertiu:
10 and seide to hem, Men, Y se that seiling bigynneth to be with wrong and myche harm, not oonli of charge and of the schip, but also of oure lyues.
10 "Senhores, vejo que a nossa viagem será desastrosa e acarretará grande prejuízo para o navio, para a carga e também para as nossas vidas".
11 But the centurien bileuede more to the gouernour, and to the lord of the schip, thanne to these thingis that weren seid of Poul.
11 Mas o centurião, em vez de ouvir o que Paulo falava, seguiu o conselho do piloto e do dono do navio.
12 And whanne the hauene was not able to dwelle in wynter, ful many ordeyneden counsel to seile fro thennus, if on ony maner thei miyten come to Fenyce, to dwelle in wynter at the hauene of Crete, which biholdith to Affrik, and to Corum.
12 Visto que o porto não era próprio para passar o inverno, a maioria decidiu que deveríamos continuar navegando, com a esperança de alcançar Fenice e ali passar o inverno. Este era um porto de Creta, que dava para sudoeste e noroeste.
13 And whanne the south blew, thei gessiden hem to holde purpos; and whanne thei hadden removed fro Asson, thei seiliden to Crete.
13 Começando a soprar suavemente o vento sul, eles pensaram que haviam obtido o que desejavam; por isso levantaram âncoras e foram navegando ao longo da costa de Creta.
14 And not aftir miche, the wynde Tifonyk, that is clepid north eest, was ayens it.
14 Pouco tempo depois, desencadeou-se da ilha um vento muito forte, chamado Nordeste.
15 And whanne the schip was rauyschid, and myyte not enforse ayens the wynde, whanne the schip was youun to the blowynges of the wynde, we weren borun with cours into an ile,
15 O navio foi arrastado pela tempestade, sem poder resistir ao vento; assim, cessamos as manobras e ficamos à deriva.
16 that is clepid Canda; and vnethe we miyten gete a litil boot.
16 Passando ao sul de uma pequena ilha chamada Clauda, foi com dificuldade que conseguimos recolher o barco salva-vidas.
17 And whanne this was takun vp, thei vsiden helpis, girdinge togidere the schippe; and dredden, lest thei schulden falle into sondi placis. And whanne the vessel was vndur set, so thei weren borun.
17 Levantando-o, lançaram mão de todos os meios para reforçar o navio com cordas; e temendo que ele encalhasse nos bancos de areia de Sirte, baixaram as velas e deixaram o navio à deriva.
18 And for we weren throwun with strong tempest, in the dai suynge thei maden casting out.
18 No dia seguinte, sendo violentamente castigados pela tempestade, começaram a lançar fora a carga.
19 And the thridde dai with her hoondis thei castiden awei the instrumentis of the schip.
19 No terceiro dia, lançaram fora, com as próprias mãos, a armação do navio.
20 And whanne the sunne nether the sterris weren seie bi many daies, and tempest not a litil neiyede, now al the hope of oure helthe was don awei.
20 Não aparecendo nem sol nem estrelas por muitos dias, e continuando a abater-se sobre nós grande tempestade, finalmente perdemos toda a esperança de salvamento.
21 And whanne myche fasting hadde be, thanne Poul stood in the myddil of hem, and seide, A! men, it bihofte, whanne ye herden me, not to haue take awei the schip fro Crete, and gete this wronge and casting out.
21 Visto que os homens tinham passado muito tempo sem comer, Paulo levantou-se diante deles e disse: "Os senhores deviam ter aceitado o meu conselho de não partir de Creta, pois assim teriam evitado este dano e prejuízo.
22 And now Y counsel you to be of good coumfort, for los of no persoone of you schal be, outakun of the schip.
22 Mas agora recomendo-lhes que tenham coragem, pois nenhum de vocês perderá a vida; apenas o navio será destruído.
23 For an aungel of God, whos Y am, and to whom Y serue, stood niy to me in this niyt, and seide, Poul, drede thou not;
23 Pois ontem à noite apareceu-me um anjo do Deus a quem pertenço e a quem adoro, dizendo-me:
24 it bihoueth thee to stonde bifore the emperour. And lo! God hath youun to thee alle that ben in the schip with thee.
24 ‘Paulo, não tenha medo. É preciso que você compareça perante César; Deus, por sua graça, deu-lhe as vidas de todos os que estão navegando com você’.
25 For which thing, ye men, be ye of good coumfort; for Y bileue to my God, that so it schal be, as it is seid to me.
25 Assim, tenham ânimo, senhores! Creio em Deus que acontecerá do modo como me foi dito.
26 And it bihoueth vs to come into sum yle.
26 Devemos ser arrastados para alguma ilha".
27 But aftirward that in the fourtenthe dai the niyt cam on vs seilinge in the stony see, aboute mydniyt the schipmen supposiden sum cuntre to appere to hem.
27 Na décima quarta noite, ainda estávamos sendo levados de um lado para outro no mar Adriático, quando, por volta da meia-noite, os marinheiros imaginaram que estávamos próximos da terra.
28 And thei kesten doun a plommet, and founden twenti pasis of depnesse. And aftir a litil thei weren departid fro thennus, and foundun fiftene pasis.
28 Lançando a sonda, verificaram que a profundidade era de trinta e sete metros; pouco tempo depois, lançaram novamente a sonda e encontraram vinte e sete metros.
29 And thei dredden, lest we schulden haue fallun in to scharp placis; and fro the last parti of the schip thei senten foure ankeris, and desiriden that the dai hadde be come.
29 Temendo que fôssemos jogados contra as pedras, lançaram quatro âncoras da popa e faziam preces para que amanhecesse o dia.
30 And whanne the schipmen souyten to fle fro the schip, whanne thei hadden sent a litil boot in to the see, vndur colour as thei schulden bigynne to stretche forth the ankeris fro the formere part of the schip,
30 Tentando escapar do navio, os marinheiros baixaram o barco salva-vidas ao mar, a pretexto de lançar âncoras da proa.
31 Poul seide to the centurien and to the knyytis, But these dwellen in the schip, ye moun not be maad saaf.
31 Então Paulo disse ao centurião e aos soldados: "Se estes homens não ficarem no navio, vocês não poderão salvar-se".
32 Thanne knyytis kittiden awei the cordis of the litil boot, and suffriden it to falle awei.
32 Com isso os soldados cortaram as cordas que prendiam o barco salva-vidas e o deixaram cair.
33 And whanne the dai was come, Poul preiede alle men to take mete, and seide, The fourtenthe dai this dai ye `abiden, and dwellen fastinge, and taken no thing.
33 Pouco antes do amanhecer, Paulo insistia que todos se alimentassem, dizendo: "Hoje faz catorze dias que vocês têm estado em vigília constante, sem nada comer.
34 Wherfor Y preie you to take mete, for youre helthe; for of noon of you the heer of the heed schal perische.
34 Agora eu os aconselho a comerem algo, pois só assim poderão sobreviver. Nenhum de vocês perderá um fio de cabelo sequer".
35 And whanne he hadde seid these thingis, Poul took breed, and dide thankyngis to God in the siyt of alle men; and whanne he hadde brokun, he bigan to eete.
35 Tendo dito isso, tomou pão e deu graças a Deus diante de todos. Então o partiu e começou a comer.
36 And alle weren maad of betere coumfort, and thei token mete.
36 Todos se reanimaram e também comeram algo.
37 And we weren alle men in the schip, two hundrid seuenti and sexe.
37 Estavam a bordo duzentas e setenta e seis pessoas.
38 And thei weren fillid with mete, and dischargiden the schip, and castiden whete in to the see.
38 Depois de terem comido até ficarem satisfeitos, aliviaram o peso do navio, atirando todo o trigo ao mar.
39 And whanne the dai was comun, thei knewen no lond; and thei bihelden an hauene that hadde a watir bank, in to which thei thouyten, if thei miyten, to bringe vp the schip.
39 Quando amanheceu não reconheceram a terra, mas viram uma enseada com uma praia, para onde decidiram conduzir o navio, se fosse possível.
40 And whanne thei hadden take vp the ankeris, thei bitoken hem to the see, and slakiden togidir the ioyntours of gouernails. And with a litil seil lift vp, bi blowyng of the wynde thei wenten to the bank.
40 Cortando as âncoras, deixaram-nas no mar, desatando ao mesmo tempo as cordas que prendiam os lemes. Então, alçando a vela da proa ao vento, dirigiram-se para a praia.
41 And whanne we felden into a place of grauel gon al aboute with the see, thei hurtliden the schip. And whanne the formere part was fitchid, it dwellide vnmouable, and the last part was brokun of strengthe of the see.
41 Mas o navio encalhou num banco de areia, onde tocou o fundo. A proa encravou-se e ficou imóvel, e a popa foi quebrada pela violência das ondas.
42 And counsel of the kniytis was, to sle men that weren in warde, lest ony schulde ascape, whanne he hadde swymmed out.
42 Os soldados resolveram matar os presos para impedir que algum deles fugisse, jogando-se ao mar.
43 But the centurien wolde kepe Poul, and forbede it to be don. And he comaundide hem that miyte swymme, to go in to the see, and scape, and go out to the loond.
43 Mas o centurião queria poupar a vida de Paulo e os impediu de executar o plano. Então ordenou aos que sabiam nadar que se lançassem primeiro ao mar em direção à terra.
44 And thei baren summe othere on boordis, summe on tho thingis that weren of the schip. And so it was don, that alle men ascapiden to the lond.
44 Os outros teriam que salvar-se em tábuas ou em pedaços do navio. Dessa forma, todos chegaram a salvo em terra.
