1 Therfor thou, my sone, be coumfortid in grace that is in Crist Jhesu.
1 Tu, pois, filho meu, fortifica-te na graça que está em Cristo Jesus.
2 And what thingis thou hast herd of me bi many witnessis, bitake thou these to feithful men, whiche schulen `be also able to teche othere men.
2 E o que de minha parte ouviste através de muitas testemunhas, isso mesmo transmite a homens fiéis e também idôneos para instruir a outros.
3 Trauele thou as a good knyyt of Crist Jhesu.
3 Participa dos meus sofrimentos como bom soldado de Cristo Jesus.
4 No man holdinge knyythod to God, wlappith hym silf with worldli nedis, that he plese to hym, to whom he hath preuyd hym silf.
4 Nenhum soldado em serviço se envolve em negócios desta vida, porque o seu objetivo é satisfazer àquele que o arregimentou.
5 For he that fiytith in a batel, schal not be corowned, but he fiyte lawfuli.
5 Igualmente, o atleta não é coroado se não lutar segundo as normas.

7 Vndurstonde thou what thingis Y seie. For the Lord schal yyue to thee vndurstonding in alle thingis.
7 Pondera o que acabo de dizer, porque o Senhor te dará compreensão em todas as coisas.
8 Be thou myndeful that the Lord Jhesu Crist of the seed of Dauid hath rise ayen fro deth,
8 Lembra-te de Jesus Cristo, ressuscitado de entre os mortos, descendente de Davi, segundo o meu evangelho;
9 aftir my gospel, in which Y trauele `til to boondis, as worching yuele, but the word of God is not boundun.
9 pelo qual estou sofrendo até algemas, como malfeitor; contudo, a palavra de Deus não está algemada.
10 Therfor Y suffre alle thingis for the chosun, that also thei gete the heelthe, that is in Crist Jhesu, with heuenli glorie.
10 Por esta razão, tudo suporto por causa dos eleitos, para que também eles obtenham a salvação que está em Cristo Jesus, com eterna glória.
11 A trewe word, that if we ben deed togidere, also we schulen liue togidere;
11 Fiel é esta palavra: Se já morremos com ele, também viveremos com ele;
12 if we suffren, we schulen regne togidere; if we denyen, he schal denye vs;
12 se perseveramos, também com ele reinaremos; se o negamos, ele, por sua vez, nos negará;
13 if we bileuen not, he dwellith feithful, he mai not denye hym silf.
13 se somos infiéis, ele permanece fiel, pois de maneira nenhuma pode negar-se a si mesmo.
14 Teche thou these thingis, witnessinge bifore God. Nyle thou stryue in wordis; for to no thing it is profitable, but to the subuerting of men that heren.
14 Recomenda estas coisas. Dá testemunho solene a todos perante Deus, para que evitem contendas de palavras que para nada aproveitam, exceto para a subversão dos ouvintes.
15 Bisili kepe to yyue thi silf a preued preisable werkman to God, with oute schame, riytli tretinge the word of treuthe.
15 Procura apresentar-te a Deus aprovado, como obreiro que não tem de que se envergonhar, que maneja bem a palavra da verdade.
16 But eschewe thou vnhooli and veyn spechis, for whi tho profiten myche to vnfeithfulnesse,
16 Evita, igualmente, os falatórios inúteis e profanos, pois os que deles usam passarão a impiedade ainda maior.
17 and the word of hem crepith as a canker. Of whiche Filete is, and Ymeneus,
17 Além disso, a linguagem deles corrói como câncer; entre os quais se incluem Himeneu e Fileto.
18 whiche felden doun fro the treuthe, seiynge that the rising ayen is now doon, and thei subuertiden the feith of summen.
18 Estes se desviaram da verdade, asseverando que a ressurreição já se realizou, e estão pervertendo a fé a alguns.
19 But the sad foundement of God stondith, hauynge this marke, The Lord knowith whiche ben hise, and, Ech man that nameth the name of the Lord, departith fro wickidnesse.
19 Entretanto, o firme fundamento de Deus permanece, tendo este selo: O Senhor conhece os que lhe pertencem. E mais: Aparte-se da injustiça todo aquele que professa o nome do Senhor.
20 But in a greet hous ben not oneli vessels of gold and of siluer, but also of tree and of erthe; and so summen ben in to onour, and summe in to dispit.
20 Ora, numa grande casa não há somente utensílios de ouro e de prata; há também de madeira e de barro. Alguns, para honra; outros, porém, para desonra.
21 Therfor if ony man clensith hym silf fro these, he schal be a vessel halewid in to onour, and profitable to the Lord, redi to al good werk.
21 Assim, pois, se alguém a si mesmo se purificar destes erros, será utensílio para honra, santificado e útil ao seu possuidor, estando preparado para toda boa obra.
22 And fle thou desiris of yongthe, but sue thou riytwisnesse, feith, charite, pees, with hem that inwardli clepen the Lord of a clene herte.
22 Foge, outrossim, das paixões da mocidade. Segue a justiça, a fé, o amor e a paz com os que, de coração puro, invocam o Senhor.
23 And eschewe thou foltische questiouns, and without kunnyng, wytynge that tho gendren chidyngis.
23 E repele as questões insensatas e absurdas, pois sabes que só engendram contendas.
24 But it bihoueth the seruaunt of the Lord to chide not; but to be mylde to alle men, able to teche,
24 Ora, é necessário que o servo do Senhor não viva a contender, e sim deve ser brando para com todos, apto para instruir, paciente,
25 paciente, with temperaunce repreuynge hem that ayenstonden the treuthe, that sum tyme God yyue to hem forthenkyng, that thei knowen the treuthe,
25 disciplinando com mansidão os que se opõem, na expectativa de que Deus lhes conceda não só o arrependimento para conhecerem plenamente a verdade,
26 and that thei rise ayen fro the snares of the deuel, of whom thei ben holdun prisoneris at his wille.
26 mas também o retorno à sensatez, livrando-se eles dos laços do diabo, tendo sido feitos cativos por ele para cumprirem a sua vontade.
