1 The eldere man, to the chosun ladi, and to her children, whiche Y loue in treuthe; and not Y aloone, but also alle men that knowen treuthe;
1 Do presbítero para a querida Senhora e os seus filhos , a quem amo de verdade. Não somente eu, mas todos os que conhecem a verdade amam vocês.
2 for the treuthe that dwellith in you, and with you schal be with outen ende.
2 Nós os amamos por causa da verdade que continua em nós e estará conosco para sempre.
3 Grace be with you, merci, and pees of God the fadir, and of Jhesu Crist, the sone of the fadir, in treuthe and charite.
3 Que a graça , a misericórdia e a paz de Deus, o nosso Pai, e de Jesus Cristo, o seu Filho, estejam conosco em verdade e amor!
4 I ioiede ful myche, for Y foond of thi sones goynge in treuthe, as we resseyueden maundement of the fadir.
4 Eu fiquei muito feliz quando soube que alguns dos seus filhos vivem de acordo com a verdade, como o Pai nos mandou viver.
5 And now Y preye thee, ladi, not as writinge a newe maundement to thee, but that that we hadden fro the bigynnyng, that we loue ech other.
5 E agora, querida Senhora, eu lhe peço que nos amemos uns aos outros. Não lhe dou um mandamento novo, mas o mesmo que temos tido desde o começo.
6 And this is charite, that we walke after his maundementis. For this is the comaundement, that as ye herden at the bigynnyng, walke ye in hym.
6 Esse amor quer dizer isto: viver uma vida de obediência aos mandamentos de Deus. Como vocês ouviram desde o começo, o mandamento é este: continuem a amar uns aos outros.
7 For many disseyueris wenten out in to the world, which knoulechen not that Jhesu Crist hath come in fleisch; this is a disseyuere and antecrist.
7 Muitos enganadores têm se espalhado pelo mundo, afirmando que Jesus Cristo não veio como um ser humano. Quem faz isso é o Enganador e o Inimigo de Cristo .
8 Se ye you silf, lest ye lesen the thingis that ye han wrouyt, that ye resseyue ful mede;
8 Tomem cuidado com vocês mesmos para que não percam o trabalho que já fizemos, mas recebam a recompensa completa.
9 witynge that ech man that goith bifore, and dwellith not in the teching of Crist, hath not God. He that dwellith in the teching, hath bothe the sone and the fadir.
9 Quem não fica com o ensinamento de Cristo, mas vai além dele, não tem Deus. Porém quem fica com o ensinamento de Cristo, esse tem tanto o Pai como o Filho.
10 If ony man cometh to you, and bryngith not this teching, nyle ye resseyue hym in to hous, nether seie ye to hym, Heil.
10 Se alguém for até vocês e não levar o ensinamento de Cristo, não recebam essa pessoa na casa de vocês, nem lhe digam: “Que a paz esteja com você!”
11 For he that seith to hym, Heil, comyneth with hise yuel werkis. Lo! Y biforseide to you, that ye be not confoundid in the dai of oure Lord Jhesu Crist.
11 Pois quem deseja paz a essa pessoa é seu companheiro no mal que ela faz.
12 Y haue mo thingis to write to you, and Y wolde not bi parchemyn and enke; for Y hope that Y schal come to you, and speke mouth to mouth, that your ioye be ful.
12 Ainda tenho muitas coisas a dizer a vocês, mas não quis fazer isso por carta. Pois espero visitá-los e falar com vocês pessoalmente, para que assim a nossa alegria seja completa.
13 The sones of thi chosun sistir greten thee wel. The grace of God be with thee. Amen.
13 Os filhos da sua querida Irmã mandam saudações.
