1 Amoneste hem to be sugetis to prynces, and to poweris; to obeische to that that is seid, and to be redi to al good werk;
1 Admoesta-os a que sejam submissos aos principados e potestades, que obedeçam os magistrados e estejam preparados para toda boa obra.
2 to blasfeme no man, to be not ful of chiding, but temperat, schewynge al myldenesse to alle men.
2 Que de ninguém falem mal, nem sejam contenciosos, mas bondosos, mostrando toda mansidão para com todos os homens.
3 For we weren sum tyme vnwise, vnbileueful, errynge, and seruynge to desiris, and to dyuerse lustis, doynge in malice and enuye, worthi to be hatid, hatinge ech othere.
3 Porque também nós éramos, noutro tempo, tolos, desobedientes, enganadores, servindo a várias concupiscências e prazeres, vivendo em malícia e inveja, odiosos, e odiando uns aos outros.
4 But whanne the benygnyte and the manhed of oure sauyour God aperide,
4 Mas, quando a benignidade e o amor de Deus, nosso Salvador, para com os homens, apareceu,
5 not of werkis of riytwisnesse that we diden, but bi his merci he made vs saaf, bi waischyng of ayen bigetyng, and ayen newyng of the Hooli Goost,
5 não pelas obras de justiça que houvéssemos feito, mas, segundo a sua misericórdia, nos salvou pela lavagem da regeneração e da renovação do Espírito Santo,
6 whom he schedde into vs plenteuousli bi Jhesu Crist,
6 que abundantemente ele derramou sobre nós por Jesus Cristo, nosso Salvador,
7 oure saueour, that we iustified bi his grace, ben eiris by hope of euerlastinge lijf.
7 para que, sendo justificados por sua graça, sejamos feitos herdeiros, segundo a esperança da vida eterna.
8 A trewe word is, and of these thingis Y wole that thou conferme othere, that thei that bileuen to God, be bisy to be aboue othere in good werkis. These thingis ben good, and profitable to men.
8 Esta é uma palavra fiel, e estas coisas quero que deveras afirmes constantemente, para que os que creem em Deus procurem manter as boas obras; estas coisas são boas e proveitosas aos homens.
9 And eschewe thou foltische questiouns, and genologies, and stryues, and fiytyngis of the lawe; for tho ben vnprofitable and veyn.
9 Mas evita questões tolas, genealogias e contendas e debates acerca da lei; porque são inúteis e vãs.
10 Eschewe thou a man eretik, aftir oon and the secound correccioun;
10 Ao homem que é herege, depois da primeira e segunda admoestação, rejeita.
11 witinge that he that is siche a maner man is subuertid, and trespassith, and is dampned bi his owne dom.
11 Sabendo que aquele que é assim está pervertido e peca, estando condenado em si mesmo.
12 Whanne Y sende to thee Arteman, or Titicus, hiy thou to `come to me to Nycopolis; for Y haue purposid to dwelle in wyntir there.
12 Quando eu te enviar Ártemas, ou Tíquico, sê diligente ao vir ter comigo em Nicópolis; porque determinei invernar ali.
13 Bisili byfor sende Zenam, a wise man of lawe, and Apollo, that no thing faile to hem.
13 Conduza diligentemente Zenas, o advogado, e Apolo, em sua viagem, para que nada lhes falte.
14 Thei that ben of ouris, lerne to be gouernouris in good werkis, to necessarie vsis, that thei be not with out fruyt.
14 E os nossos aprendam também a manter as boas obras nas coisas necessárias, para que eles não sejam infrutíferos.
15 Alle men that ben with me greeten thee wel. Grete thou wel hem, that louen vs in feith. The grace of God be with you alle. Amen.
15 Todos os que estão comigo saúdam-te. Saúda tu os que nos amam na fé. A graça seja com todos vós. Amém.
