1 Mi britheren, nyle ye haue the feith of oure Lord Jhesu Crist of glorie, in accepcioun of persoones.
1 Meus irmãos, não tenhais a fé de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, Senhor da glória, em acepção de pessoas.
2 For if a man `that hath a goldun ring, and in a feire clothing, cometh in youre cumpany, and a pore man entrith in a foul clothing,
2 Porque, se no vosso ajuntamento entrar algum homem com anel de ouro no dedo, com vestes preciosas, e entrar também algum pobre com sórdida vestimenta,
3 and if ye biholden in to hym that is clothid with clere clothing, and if ye seie to hym, Sitte thou here wel; but to the pore man ye seien, Stonde thou there, ethir sitte vndur the stool of my feet; whether ye demen not anentis you silf,
3 e atentardes para o que traz a veste preciosa e lhe disserdes: Assenta-te tu aqui, num lugar de honra, e disserdes ao pobre: Tu, fica aí em pé ou assenta-te abaixo do meu estrado,
4 and ben maad domesmen of wickid thouytis?
4 porventura não fizestes distinção dentro de vós mesmos e não vos fizestes juízes de maus pensamentos?
5 Heere ye, my moost dereworthe britheren, whethir God chees not pore men in this world, riche in feith, and eiris of the kyngdom, that God bihiyte to men that louen him?
5 Ouvi, meus amados irmãos. Porventura, não escolheu Deus aos pobres deste mundo para serem ricos na fé e herdeiros do Reino que prometeu aos que o amam?
6 But ye han dispisid the pore man. Whether riche men oppressen not you bi power, and thei drawen you to domes?
6 Mas vós desonrastes o pobre. Porventura, não vos oprimem os ricos e não vos arrastam aos tribunais?
7 Whether thei blasfemen not the good name, that is clepid to help on you?
7 Porventura, não blasfemam eles o bom nome que sobre vós foi invocado?
8 Netheles if ye performen the kingis lawe, bi scripturis, Thou schalt loue thi neiybour as thi silf, ye don wel.
8 Todavia, se cumprirdes, conforme a Escritura, a lei real: Amarás a teu próximo como a ti mesmo, bem fazeis.
9 But if ye taken persones, ye worchen synne, and ben repreued of the lawe, as trespasseris.
9 Mas, se fazeis acepção de pessoas, cometeis pecado e sois redarguidos pela lei como transgressores.
10 And who euere kepith al the lawe, but offendith in oon, he is maad gilti of alle.
10 Porque qualquer que guardar toda a lei e tropeçar em um só ponto tornou-se culpado de todos.
11 For he that seide, Thou schalt do no letcherie, seide also, Thou schalt not sle; that if thou doist not letcherie, but thou sleest, thou art maad trespassour of the lawe.
11 Porque aquele que disse: Não cometerás adultério, também disse: Não matarás. Se tu, pois, não cometeres adultério, mas matares, estás feito transgressor da lei.
12 Thus speke ye, and thus do ye, as bigynnynge to be demyd bi the lawe of fredom.
12 Assim falai e assim procedei, como devendo ser julgados pela lei da liberdade.
13 For whi dom with out merci is to hym, that doith no mercy; but merci aboue reisith dom.
13 Porque o juízo será sem misericórdia sobre aquele que não fez misericórdia; e a misericórdia triunfa sobre o juízo.
14 Mi britheren, what schal it profite, if ony man seie that he hath feith, but he hath not the werkis? whether feith schal mowe saue hym?
14 Meus irmãos, que aproveita se alguém disser que tem fé e não tiver as obras? Porventura, a fé pode salvá-lo?
15 And if a brother ethir sister be nakid, and han nede of ech daies lyuelode,
15 E, se o irmão ou a irmã estiverem nus e tiverem falta de mantimento cotidiano,
16 and if ony of you seie to hem, Go ye in pees, be ye maad hoot, and be ye fillid; but if ye yyuen not to hem tho thingis that ben necessarie to bodi, what schal it profite?
16 e algum de vós lhes disser: Ide em paz, aquentai-vos e fartai-vos; e lhes não derdes as coisas necessárias para o corpo, que proveito virá daí?
17 So also feith, if it hath not werkis, is deed in it silf.
17 Assim também a fé, se não tiver as obras, é morta em si mesma.
18 But summan schal seie, Thou hast feith, and Y haue werkis; schewe thou to me thi feith with out werkis, and Y schal schewe to thee my feith of werkis.
18 Mas dirá alguém: Tu tens a fé, e eu tenho as obras; mostra-me a tua fé sem as tuas obras, e eu te mostrarei a minha fé pelas minhas obras.
19 Thou bileuest, that o God is; thou doist wel; and deuelis bileuen, and tremblen.
19 Tu crês que há um só Deus? Fazes bem; também os demônios o creem e estremecem.
20 But wolt thou wite, thou veyn man, that feith with out werkis is idul?
20 Mas, ó homem vão, queres tu saber que a fé sem as obras é morta?
21 Whether Abraham, oure fadir, was not iustified of werkis, offringe Ysaac, his sone, on the auter?
21 Porventura Abraão, o nosso pai, não foi justificado pelas obras, quando ofereceu sobre o altar o seu filho Isaque?
22 Therfor thou seest, that feith wrouyte with hise werkis, and his feith was fillid of werkis.
22 Bem vês que a fé cooperou com as suas obras e que, pelas obras, a fé foi aperfeiçoada,
23 And the scripture was fillid, seiynge, Abraham bileuede to God, and it was arettid to hym to riytwisnesse, and he was clepid the freend of God.
23 e cumpriu-se a Escritura, que diz: E creu Abraão em Deus, e foi-lhe isso imputado como justiça, e foi chamado o amigo de Deus.
24 Ye seen that a man is iustified of werkis, and not of feith oneli.
24 Vedes, então, que o homem é justificado pelas obras e não somente pela fé.
25 In lijk maner, and whether also Raab, the hoore, was not iustified of werkis, and resseyuede the messangeris, and sente hem out bi anothir weie?
25 E de igual modo Raabe, a meretriz, não foi também justificada pelas obras, quando recolheu os emissários e os despediu por outro caminho?
26 For as the bodi with out spirit is deed, so also feith with out werkis is deed.
26 Porque, assim como o corpo sem o espírito está morto, assim também a fé sem obras é morta.
