1 What thanne schulen we seie, that Abraham oure fadir aftir the flesch foond?
1 Do ponto de vista humano, Abraão foi o fundador de nossa nação. O que descobriu ele?
2 For if Abraham is iustified of werkis of the lawe, he hath glorie, but not anentis God.
2 Se suas boas obras o tivessem tornado justo, ele teria motivo para se vangloriar, mas não perante Deus.
3 For what seith the scripture? Abraham bileued to God, and it was arettid to him to riytwisnesse.
3 Pois as Escrituras dizem: “Abraão creu em Deus, e assim foi considerado justo”.
4 And to hym that worchith mede is not arettid bi grace, but bi dette.
4 O salário daquele que trabalha não é um presente, mas um direito.
5 Sotheli to hym that worchith not, but bileueth in to hym that iustefieth a wickid man, his feith is arettid to riytwisnesse, aftir the purpos of Goddis grace.
5 Contudo, ninguém é considerado justo com base em seu trabalho, mas sim por meio de sua fé em Deus, que declara justos os pecadores.
6 As Dauid seith the blessidnesse of a man, whom God acceptith, he yyueth to hym riytwisnesse with outen werkis of the lawe,
6 Davi também falou a esse respeito quando descreveu a felicidade daqueles que são considerados justos sem terem trabalhado para isso:
7 Blessid ben thei, whos wickidnessis ben foryouun, and whos synnes ben hid.
7 “Como são felizes aqueles cuja desobediência é perdoada, cujos pecados são cobertos!
8 Blessid is that man, to whom God arettide not synne.
8 Sim, como são felizes aqueles cujo pecado o Senhor não leva mais em conta!”.
9 Thanne whether dwellith this blisfulnesse oneli in circumcisioun, or also in prepucie? For we seien, that the feith was arettid to Abraham to riytwisnesse.
9 Por acaso essa bênção é apenas para os judeus, ou se estende também aos gentios incircuncidados? Já dissemos que Deus considerou Abraão justo por meio de sua fé.
10 Hou thanne was it arettid? in circumcisioun, or in prepucie? Not in circumcisioun, but in prepucie.
10 Mas como isso aconteceu? Ele foi considerado justo somente depois de ter sido circuncidado, ou antes disso? Está claro que foi antes de ele ser circuncidado.
11 And he took a signe of circumcisioun, a tokenyng of riytwisnesse of the feith which is in prepucie, that he be fadir of alle men bileuynge bi prepucie, that it be arettid also to hem to riytwisnesse;
11 A circuncisão era um sinal de que Abraão já possuía fé e de que Deus já o havia declarado justo, mesmo antes de ele ser circuncidado. Portanto, Abraão é o pai daqueles que têm fé mas não foram circuncidados. Eles são considerados justos por causa de sua fé.
12 and that he be fadir of circumcisioun, not onely to hem that ben of circumcisioun, but also to hem that suen the steppis of the feith, which feith is in prepucie of oure fader Abraham.
12 E Abraão também é o pai daqueles que foram circuncidados, mas somente se tiverem o mesmo tipo de fé que Abraão tinha antes de ser circuncidado.
13 For not bi the lawe is biheest to Abraham, or to his seed, that he schulde be eir of the world, but bi the riytwisnesse of feith.
13 A promessa de que Abraão e seus descendentes herdariam toda a terra não se baseou em sua obediência à lei de Deus, mas sim no fato de ele ter sido considerado justo quando teve fé.
14 For if thei that ben of the lawe, ben eiris, feith is distried, biheest is don awey.
14 Portanto, se a herança prometida é apenas para aqueles que obedecem à lei, a fé é desnecessária, e a promessa, anulada.
15 For the lawe worchith wraththe; for where is no lawe, there is no trespas, nethir is trespassyng.
15 Pois a lei traz ira sobre aqueles que tentam obedecer a ela. A única forma de não quebrar a lei é não ter lei nenhuma para quebrar!
16 Therfor riytfulnesse is of the feith, that bi grace biheeste be stable to ech seed, not to that seed oneli that is of the lawe, but to that that is of the feith of Abraham, which is fadir of vs alle.
16 É por isso que a promessa vem pela fé, para que ela seja segundo a graça e, assim, alcance toda a descendência de Abraão, não somente os que vivem sob a lei, mas todos que têm fé como a que teve Abraão. Pois ele é o pai de todos que creem.
17 As it is writun, For Y haue set thee fadir of many folkis, bifor God to whom thou hast bileued. Which God quykeneth deed men, and clepith tho thingis that ben not, as tho that ben.
17 Conforme aparece nas Escrituras: “Eu o fiz pai de muitas nações”. Isso aconteceu porque Abraão creu no Deus que traz os mortos de volta à vida e cria coisas novas do nada.
18 Which Abraham ayens hope bileuede in to hope, that he schulde be maad fader of many folkis, as it was seid to hym, Thus schal thi seed be, as the sterris of heuene, and as the grauel that is in the brenke of the see.
18 Mesmo quando não havia motivo para ter esperança, Abraão a manteve, crendo que se tornaria o pai de muitas nações. Pois Deus lhe tinha dito: “Esse é o número de descendentes que você terá!”.
19 And he was not maad vnstidfast in the bileue, nether he biheelde his bodi thanne nyy deed, whanne he was almost of an hundrid yeer, ne the wombe of Sare nyy deed.
19 E sua fé não se enfraqueceu, embora ele soubesse que, aos cem anos, seu corpo, bem como o ventre de Sara, já não tinham vigor.
20 Also in the biheeste of God he doutide not with vntrist; but he was coumfortid in bileue,
20 Em nenhum momento a fé de Abraão na promessa de Deus vacilou. Na verdade, ela se fortaleceu e, com isso, ele deu glória a Deus.
21 yyuynge glorie to God, witynge moost fulli that what euere thingis God hath bihiyt, he is myyti also to do.
21 Abraão estava plenamente convicto de que Deus é poderoso para cumprir tudo que promete.
22 Therfor it was arettid to hym to riytwisnesse.
22 Por isso, por sua fé, ele foi considerado justo.
23 And it is not writun oneli for him, that it was arettid to hym to riytwisnesse,
23 E, quando Deus considerou Abraão justo, não o fez apenas para benefício dele. As Escrituras dizem
24 but also for vs, to whiche it schal be arettid, that bileuen in him that reiside oure Lord Jhesu Crist fro deeth.
24 que foi também para nosso benefício, pois elas garantem que também seremos considerados justos por crermos naquele que ressuscitou dos mortos a Jesus, nosso Senhor.
25 Which was bitakun for oure synnes, and roos ayen for oure iustefiyng.
25 Ele foi entregue à morte por causa de nossos pecados e foi ressuscitado para que fôssemos declarados justos diante de Deus.
