1 Euery soule be suget to heiyere powers. For ther is no power but of God, and tho thingis that ben of God, ben ordeyned.
1 Toda alma esteja sujeita às autoridades superiores; porque não há autoridade que não venha de Deus; e as autoridades existentes foram ordenadas por Deus.
2 Therfor he that ayenstondith power, ayenstondith the ordynaunce of God; and thei that ayenstonden, geten to hem silf dampnacioun.
2 Por isso, quem resiste à autoridade resiste à ordenação de Deus; e os que resistem receberão sobre si mesmos a condenação.
3 For princes ben not to the drede of good work, but of yuel. But wilt thou, that thou drede not power? Do thou good thing, and thou schalt haue preisyng of it;
3 Porque os governantes não são terror para as boas obras, mas para as más. Tu então não queres temer a autoridade? Faze o que é bom e terás louvor dela.
4 for he is the mynystre of God to thee in to good. But if thou doist yuel, drede thou; for not with outen cause he berith the swerd, for he is the mynystre of God, vengere in to wraththe to hym that doith yuel.
4 Porque ela é o ministro de Deus para o teu bem. Mas se tu fizeres o que é mau, teme, pois ela não traz a espada em vão; porque é ministro de Deus e vingador para executar a ira contra aquele que pratica o mal.
5 And therfor bi nede be ye suget, not oneli for wraththe, but also for conscience.
5 Portanto, é necessário que estejais sujeitos, não somente pela ira, mas também por causa da consciência.
6 For therfor ye yyuen tributis, thei ben the mynystris of God, and seruen for this same thing.
6 E também por esta razão pagais tributos, porque eles são ministros de Deus, atendendo continuamente sobre esta mesma coisa.
7 Therfor yelde ye to alle men dettis, to whom tribut, tribut, to whom tol, tol, to whom drede, drede, to whom onour, onour.
7 Portanto, dai a cada um o que deveis; a quem deveis tributo, tributo; a quem imposto, imposto; a quem temor, temor; a quem honra, honra.
8 To no man owe ye ony thing, but that ye loue togidere. For he that loueth his neiybore, hath fulfillid the lawe.
8 A nenhum homem devais coisa alguma, senão o amar-vos uns aos outros, porque quem ama o próximo cumpre a lei.
9 For, Thou schalt do no letcherie, Thou schalt not sle, Thou schalt not stele, Thou schalt not seie fals witnessyng, Thou schalt not coueyte the thing of thi neiybore, and if ther be ony othere maundement, it is instorid in this word, Thou schalt loue thi neiybore as thi silf.
9 Por isto: Tu não cometerás adultério, não assassinarás, não furtarás, não darás falso testemunho, não cobiçarás; e, se há algum outro mandamento, tudo se resume nesta palavra: Tu amarás ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo.
10 The loue of neiybore worchith not yuel; therfor loue is the fulfillyng of the lawe.
10 O amor não faz mal ao próximo; portanto o amor é o cumprimento da lei.
11 And we knowen this tyme, that the our is now, that we rise fro sleep; for now oure heelthe is neer, than whanne we bileueden.
11 E então, conhecendo o tempo, que já é hora de despertarmos do sono; porque a nossa salvação agora está mais perto de nós do que quando cremos.
12 The nyyt wente bifore, but the dai hath neiyed. Therfor caste we awei the werkis of derknessis, and be we clothid in the armeris of liyt.
12 A noite é passada, e o dia é chegado. Portanto, rejeitemos as obras das trevas e vistamo-nos da armadura da luz.
13 As in dai wandre we onestli, not in superflu feestis and drunkenessis, not in beddis and vnchastitees, not in strijf and in enuye;
13 E nós caminhamos honestamente, como de dia, não em tumultos, nem em embriaguez, nem em orgias, nem em devassidão, nem em contendas e inveja.
14 but be ye clothid in the Lord Jhesu Crist, and do ye not the bisynesse of fleisch in desiris.
14 Mas revesti-vos do Senhor Jesus Cristo e não façam provisão para a carne, para cumprir suas cobiças.
