1 Britheren, the wille of myn herte and mi biseching is maad to God for hem in to helthe.
1 Irmãos, o desejo do meu coração e a súplica que dirijo a Deus por eles são para que se salvem.
2 But Y bere witnessyng to hem, that thei han loue of God, but not aftir kunnyng.
2 Pois lhes dou testemunho de que têm zelo por Deus, mas um zelo sem discernimento.
3 For thei vnknowynge Goddis riytwisnesse, and sekynge to make stidefast her owne riytfulnesse, ben not suget to the riytwisnesse of God.
3 Desconhecendo a justiça de Deus e procurando estabelecer a sua própria justiça, não se sujeitaram à justiça de Deus.
4 For the ende of the lawe is Crist, to riytwisnesse to ech man that bileueth.
4 Porque Cristo é o fim da lei, para justificar todo aquele que crê.
5 For Moises wroot, For the man that schal do riytwisnesse that is of the lawe, schal lyue in it.
5 Ora, Moisés escreve da justiça que vem da lei: O homem que a praticar viverá por ela {Lv 18,5}.
6 But the riytwisnesse that is of bileue, seith thus, Seie thou not in thin herte, Who schal stie in to heuene? that is to seie, to lede doun Crist;
6 Mas a justiça que vem da fé diz assim: Não digas em teu coração: Quem subirá ao céu? Isto é, para trazer do alto o Cristo;
7 or who schal go doun in to helle? that is, to ayenclepe Crist fro deth.
7 ou: Quem descerá ao abismo? Isto é, para fazer voltar Cristo dentre os mortos.
8 But what seith the scripture? The word is nyy in thi mouth, and in thin herte; this is the word of bileue, which we prechen.
8 Que diz ela, afinal? A palavra está perto de ti, na tua boca e no teu coração {Dt 30,14}. Essa é a palavra da fé, que pregamos.
9 That if thou knoulechist in thi mouth the Lord Jhesu Crist, and bileuest in thin herte, that God reiside hym fro deth, thou schalt be saaf.
9 Portanto, se com tua boca confessares que Jesus é o Senhor, e se em teu coração creres que Deus o ressuscitou dentre os mortos, serás salvo.
10 For bi herte me bileueth to riytwisnesse, but bi mouth knowleching is maad to helthe.
10 É crendo de coração que se obtém a justiça, e é professando com palavras que se chega à salvação.
11 For whi the scripture seith, Ech that bileueth in hym, schal not be confoundid.
11 A Escritura diz: Todo o que nele crer não será confundido {Is 28,16}.
12 And ther is no distinccioun of Jew and of Greke; for the same Lord of alle is riche in alle, that inwardli clepen hym.
12 Pois não há distinção entre judeu e grego, porque todos têm um mesmo Senhor, rico para com todos os que o invocam,
13 For ech man `who euere schal inwardli clepe the name of the Lord, schal be saaf.
13 porque todo aquele que invocar o nome do Senhor será salvo {Jl 3,5}.
14 Hou thanne schulen thei inwardli clepe hym, in to whom thei han not bileued? or hou schulen thei bileue to hym, whom thei han not herd? Hou schulen thei here, with outen a prechour?
14 Porém, como invocarão aquele em quem não têm fé? E como crerão naquele de quem não ouviram falar? E como ouvirão falar, se não houver quem pregue?
15 and hou schulen thei preche, but thei be sent? As it is writun, Hou faire ben the feet of hem that prechen pees, of hem that prechen good thingis.
15 E como pregarão, se não forem enviados, como está escrito: Quão formosos são os pés daqueles que anunciam as boas novas {Is 52,7}?
16 But not alle men obeien to the gospel. For Ysaie seith, Lord, who bileuede to oure heryng?
16 Mas não são todos que prestaram ouvido à boa nova. É o que exclama Isaías: Senhor, quem acreditou na nossa pregação {Is 53,1}?
17 Therfor feith is of heryng, but heryng bi the word of Crist.
17 Logo, a fé provém da pregação e a pregação se exerce em razão da palavra de Cristo.
18 But Y seie, Whether thei herden not? Yhis, sothely the word of hem wente out in to al the erthe, and her wordis in to the endis of the world.
18 Pergunto, agora: Acaso não ouviram? Claro que sim! Por toda a terra correu a sua voz, e até os confins do mundo foram as suas palavras {Sl 18,5}.
19 But Y seie, Whether Israel knewe not? First Moyses seith, Y schal lede you to enuye, that ye ben no folc; that ye ben an vnwise folc, Y schal sende you in to wraththe.
19 E pergunto ainda: Acaso Israel não o compreendeu? Já Moisés lhes havia dito: Eu vos despertarei ciúmes com um povo que não merece este nome; provocar-vos-ei a ira contra uma nação insensata {Dt 32,21}.
20 And Ysaie is bold, and seith, Y am foundun of men that seken me not; opynli Y apperide to hem, that axiden not me.
20 E Isaías se abalança a dizer: Fui achado pelos que não me buscavam; manifestei-me aos que não perguntavam por mim {Is 65,1}.
21 But to Israel he seith, Al dai Y streiyte out myn hondis to a puple that bileuede not, but ayen seide me.
21 Ao passo que a respeito de Israel ele diz: Todo o dia estendi as minhas mãos a um povo desobediente e teimoso {Is 65,2}.
