1 And whanne Chananei, the kyng of Arad, that dwellide at the south, hadde herd this, that is, that Israel cam bi the weye of aspieris, he fauyt ayens hem; and Chananei was ouercomere and ledde pray of Israel.
1 Quando o rei cananeu de Arade, que vivia no Neguebe, soube que o povo de Israel se aproximava pelo caminho que atravessava Atarim, ele os atacou e capturou alguns deles.
2 And Israel bounde hym sylf bi avow to the Lord, and seide, If thou schalt bitake this puple in myn hond, Y schal do awei `the citees therof.
2 Então o povo de Israel fez o seguinte voto ao S enhor : “Se entregares este povo em nossas mãos, destruiremos completamente todas as suas cidades”.
3 And the Lord herde the preieris of Israel, and bitook the Chananey; and Israel killid hym, and distruyede hise citees; and clepide the name of that place Horma, that is, cursyng, `ethir hangyng up.
3 O S enhor ouviu o pedido do povo de Israel e lhes deu vitória sobre os cananeus. Os israelitas os destruíram completamente e também suas cidades; desde então, aquele lugar passou a ser chamado de Hormá.
4 `Forsothe thei yeden forth also fro the hil of Hor, bi the weie that ledith to the reed see, that thei schulden cumpasse the lond of Edom; and it bigan to anoye the puple, of the weie and trauel.
4 Em seguida, partiram do monte Hor e tomaram o caminho para o mar Vermelho, a fim de contornar a terra de Edom. Mas o povo ficou impaciente
5 And the puple spak ayens the Lord and Moises, and seide, Whi leddist thou vs out of Egipt, that we schulden die in wildirnesse? breed failith, watris ben not; oure soule wlatith now on this `meete moost liyt.
5 e começou a se queixar contra Deus e contra Moisés: “Por que você nos tirou do Egito para morrermos aqui no deserto? Aqui não há o que comer nem o que beber. E detestamos este maná horrível!”.
6 Wherfor the Lord sente `firid serpentis in to the puple; at the woundis of whiche serpentis, and the dethis of ful many men,
6 Então o S enhor enviou serpentes venenosas que morderam o povo, e muitos morreram.
7 thei camen to Moyses, and seiden, We synneden, for we spaken ayens the Lord and thee; preie thou, that he take awey fro vs the serpentis.
7 O povo clamou a Moisés: “Pecamos ao falar contra o S enhor e contra você. Ore para que o S enhor tire as serpentes de nosso meio”. E Moisés orou pelo povo.
8 And Moises preiede for the puple; and the Lord seide to hym, Make thou a serpent of bras, and sette thou it for a signe; he that is smytun and biholdith it, schal lyue.
8 O S enhor lhe disse: “Faça a réplica de uma serpente venenosa e coloque-a no alto de um poste. Todos que forem mordidos viverão se olharem para ela”.
9 Therfor Moyses made a serpent of bras, and settide for a signe; and men smytun and biholdynge it, weren heelid.
9 Moisés fez uma serpente de bronze e a colocou no alto de um poste. Quem era mordido por uma serpente e olhava para a réplica de bronze era curado.
10 And the sones of Israel yeden forth,
10 Os israelitas viajaram para Obote e acamparam ali.
11 and settiden tentis in Oboth; fro whennus thei yeden forth, and settiden tentis in Neabarym, in the wildirnesse, that biholdith Moab, ayens the eest coost.
11 Depois, seguiram para Ijé-Abarim, no deserto, na fronteira leste de Moabe.
12 And thei moueden fro thennus, and camen to the stronde of Zareth;
12 De lá, viajaram para o vale do ribeiro de Zerede, onde acamparam.
13 which thei leften, and settiden tentis ayens Arnon, which is in the deseert, and apperith in the coostis of Amorrei. Forsothe Arnon is the terme of Moab, and departith Moabitis and Ammoreis.
13 Em seguida, partiram e acamparam do outro lado do rio Arnom, na região deserta junto ao território dos amorreus. O rio Arnom é a fronteira que separa os moabitas dos amorreus.
14 Wherfor it is seid in the book of batels of the Lord, As he dide in the reed see, so he schal do in the strondis of Arnon;
14 Por isso, o Livro das Guerras do S fala sobre “… Vaebe, na região de Sufá, e os riachos do rio Arnom,
15 the harde rochis of the strondis weren bowid, that tho schulen reste in Arnon, and schulden ligge in the coostis of Moabitis.
15 e os riachos que se estendem até o povoado de Ar na fronteira de Moabe”.
16 Fro that place the pit apperide, of which the Lord spak to Moyses, Gadere thou the puple, and Y schal yyue watir to it.
16 De lá os israelitas viajaram até Beer, o poço onde o S enhor disse a Moisés: “Reúna o povo, e eu lhe darei água”.
17 Thanne Israel soong this song, The pit stie;
17 Ali os israelitas entoaram esta canção: “Jorre, ó poço! Sim, cantem seus louvores!
18 thei sungen togidere, The pit which the princes diggiden, and the duykis of the multitude maden redi, in the yyuere of the lawe, and in her stauys. And thei yeden forth fro the wildirnesse to Mathana,
18 Cantem a respeito deste poço, que príncipes cavaram, que líderes abriram com seus cetros e cajados”. Então saíram do deserto e passaram por Mataná,
19 fro Mathana to Naaliel, fro Naaliel in to Bamoth;
19 Naaliel e Bamote.
20 Bamoth is a valey in the cuntrey of Moab, in the cop of Phasga, that biholdith ayens the deseert.
20 Depois, seguiram para o vale em Moabe, onde fica o monte Pisga. Do pico desse monte se vê o deserto.
21 Forsothe Israel sente messangeris to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, and seide,
21 O povo de Israel enviou representantes a Seom, rei dos amorreus, com a seguinte mensagem:
22 Y biseche that it be leueful to me to passe thorou thi loond; we schulen not bowe in to the feeldis and vyneris; we schulen not drynke watris of pittis; we schulen go in the kyngis weie, til we passen thi termes.
22 “Permita-nos atravessar sua terra. Teremos cuidado de não passar por seus campos e vinhedos, e não beberemos água de seus poços. Seguiremos pela estrada real e só a deixaremos quando tivermos atravessado seu território”.
23 Which nolde graunte that Israel schulde passe thury hise coostis, but rather, whanne the oost was gaderid, he yede out ayens Israel, in to deseert. And he cam in to Yasa, and fauyt ayens Israel;
23 O rei Seom, porém, não os deixou atravessar seu território. Em vez disso, mobilizou todo o seu exército e atacou o povo de Israel no deserto. A guerra ocorreu em Jaza,
24 of whom he was smytun in the scharpnesse of swerd, and his lond was weldid fro Arnon `til to Jeboth and `the sones of Amon; for the termes of Amonytis weren holdun bi strong help.

25 Therfor Israel took alle `the citees of hym, and dwelliden in the citees of Amorrei, that is, in Esebon, and hise townes.
25 O povo de Israel capturou todas as cidades dos amorreus e se estabeleceu nelas, incluindo Hesbom e os vilarejos ao redor.
26 The citee of Esebon was Seons, kyng of Ammorei, which Seon fauyt ayens the kyng of Moab, and took al the lond that was of his lordschip, `til to Arnon.
26 Hesbom era a capital de Seom, rei dos amorreus. Ele havia derrotado o rei moabita anterior e tomado todas as suas terras até o rio Arnom.
27 Therfor it is seid in prouerbe, Come ye in to Esebon, be it bildid, and maad the citee of Seon;
27 Por isso os poetas dizem a seu respeito: “Venham a Hesbom! Que ela seja reconstruída! Que seja restaurada a cidade de Seom!
28 fier yede out of Esebon, flawme yede out of the citee `ethir greet castel of Seon, and deuouryde Ar of Moabitis, and the dwelleris of the `hiye places of Arnon.
28 Fogo saiu de Hesbom, uma chama da cidade de Seom. Consumiu a cidade de Ar em Moabe, destruiu os governantes dos altos do Arnom.
29 Moab, wo to thee! thou, puple of Chamos, perischidist; it yaf the sones therof in to fliyt, and the douytris in to caitifte to Seon, kyng of Ammoreis;
29 Que aflição os espera, povo de Moabe! Estão arruinados, adoradores de Camos! Camos entregou seus filhos como refugiados, suas filhas como prisioneiras a Seom, o rei amorreu.
30 the yok of hem perischide, fro Esebon `til to Dibon; the wery men camen in to Jophe, and `til to Medaba.
30 Nós os aniquilamos, desde Hesbom até Dibom. Nós os exterminamos até lugares distantes como Nofá e Medeba”.
31 And so Israel dwellide in the lond of Ammorrey.
31 Assim, o povo de Israel ocupou o território dos amorreus.
32 And Moises sente men that schulden aspie Jaser, whos `townes thei token, and weldiden the dwelleris.
32 Depois que Moisés enviou homens para fazer o reconhecimento de Jazar, os israelitas tomaram todas as cidades da região e expulsaram os amorreus que viviam ali.
33 And thei turniden hem silf, and stieden bi the weie of Basan. And Og, the kyng of Basan, with al his puple cam ayens hem, to fiyte in Edray.
33 Em seguida, voltaram e marcharam pelo caminho até Basã, mas o rei Ogue, de Basã, e todo o seu povo os atacaram em Edrei.
34 And the Lord seide to Moises, Drede thou not hym, for Y haue bitake hym, and al his loond, and puple, in thin hoond; and thou schalt do to hym as thou didist to Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, the dwellere of Esebon.
34 O S enhor disse a Moisés: “Não tenha medo dele, pois eu o entreguei a você, junto com todo o seu povo e sua terra. Faça com ele o mesmo que fez com Seom, rei dos amorreus, que vivia em Hesbom”.
35 Therfor thei smytiden `bothe hym with hise sones and al his puple, `til to deeth; and thei weldiden `the lond of hym.
35 Desse modo, mataram o rei Ogue, seus filhos e todo o seu povo; não restou sobrevivente algum. Então ocuparam seu território.
