1 Forsothe Safacie, sone of Nathan, and Jedelie, sone of Fassur, and Jothal, sone of Selemye, and Fassour, sone of Melchie, herden the wordis whiche Jeremye spak to al the puple,
1 E ocorreu que Sefatias, filho de Matã, Gedalias, filho de Pasur, Jucal, filho de Selemias, e Pasur, filho de Malquias, ouviram o que Jeremias estava dizendo a todo o povo:
2 `and seide, The Lord seith these thingis, Who euer dwellith in this citee, schal die bi swerd, and hungur, and pestilence; but he that flieth to Caldeis, shal lyue, and his soule schal be hool and lyuynge.
2 "Assim diz o Senhor: ‘Aquele que permanecer nesta cidade morrerá pela espada, pela fome e pela peste; mas aquele que se render aos babilônios viverá. Escapará com vida e sobreviverá’.
3 The Lord seith these thingis, This citee to be bitakun schal be bitakun in to the hond of the oost of the kyng of Babiloyne, and he schal take it.
3 E, assim diz o Senhor: ‘Esta cidade certamente será entregue ao exército do rei da Babilônia, que a conquistará’ ".
4 And the princes seiden to the kyng, We preien, that this man be slayn; for of bifore castyng he discoumfortith the hondis of men werriours, that dwelliden in this citee, and the hondis of al the puple, and spekith to hem bi alle these wordis. For whi this man sekith not pees to this puple, but yuel.
4 Então os líderes disseram ao rei: "Este homem deve morrer. Ele está desencorajando os soldados que restaram nesta cidade, bem como todo o povo, com as coisas que ele está dizendo. Este homem não busca o bem deste povo, mas a sua ruína".
5 And kyng Sedechie seide, Lo! he is in youre hondis, for it is not leueful that the kyng denye ony thing to you.
5 O rei Zedequias respondeu: "Ele está em suas mãos; o rei não pode opor-se a vocês".
6 Therfor thei token Jeremye, and castiden hym doun in to the lake of Elchie, sone of Amalech, which was in the porche of the prisoun; and thei senten doun Jeremye bi cordis in to the lake, wherynne was no watir, but fen; therfor Jeremye yede doun in to the filthe.
6 Assim, pegaram Jeremias e o jogaram na cisterna de Malquias, filho do rei, a qual ficava no pátio da guarda. Baixaram Jeremias por meio de cordas para dentro da cisterna. Não havia água na cisterna, mas somente lama; e Jeremias afundou na lama.
7 Forsothe Abdemalech Ethiopien, a chast man and oneste, herde, that was in the kyngis hous, that thei hadden sent Jeremye in to the lake; sotheli the king sat in the yate of Beniamyn.
7 Mas, Ebede-Meleque, o etíope, oficial do palácio real, ouviu que eles tinham jogado Jeremias na cisterna. Ora, o rei estava sentado junto à porta de Benjamim,
8 And Abdemalech yede out of the kyngis hous, and spak to the kyng,
8 Ebede-Meleque saiu do palácio e foi dizer-lhe:
9 and seide, My lord the kyng, these men diden yuele alle thingis, what euer thingis thei diden ayens Jeremye, the profete, sendynge hym in to the lake, that he die there for hungur; for whi looues ben no more in the citee.
9 "Ó rei, meu senhor, esses homens cometeram um mal em tudo o que fizeram ao profeta Jeremias. Eles o jogaram numa cisterna para que morra de fome, pois já não há mais pão na cidade".
10 Therfor the kyng comaundide to Abdemelech Ethiopien, and seide, Take with thee thretti men fro hennus, and reise thou Jeremye, the profete, fro the lake, bifor that he die.
10 Então o rei ordenou a Ebede-Meleque, o etíope: "Leve com você três homens sob as suas ordens e retire o profeta Jeremias da cisterna antes que ele morra".
11 Therfor whanne Abdemelech hadde take men with hym, he entride in to the hous of the kyng, that was vndur the celer; and he took fro thennus elde clothis, and elde ragges, that weren rotun; and he sente tho doun to Jeremye, in to the lake, bi cordis.
11 Então Ebede-Meleque levou consigo os homens que estavam sob as suas ordens e foi à sala que fica debaixo da tesouraria do palácio. Pegou alguns trapos e roupas velhas e desceu cordas até Jeremias na cisterna.
12 And Abdemelech Ethiopien seide to Jeremye, Putte thou elde clothis, and these to-rent and rotun thingis vndur the cubit of thin hondis, and on the cordis. Therfor Jeremye dide so.
12 O Ebede-Meleque, o etíope, disse a Jeremias: "Ponha esses trapos e roupas velhas debaixo dos braços para servirem de almofada para as cordas". E Jeremias assim fez.
13 And thei drowen out Jeremye with cordis, and ledden hym out of the lake. Forsothe Jeremye dwellide in the porche of the prisoun.
13 Assim, com as cordas o puxaram para cima e o tiraram da cisterna. E Jeremias permaneceu no pátio da guarda.
14 And kyng Sedechie sente, and took hym Jeremye, the profete, at the thridde dore that was in the hous of the Lord. And the kyng seide to Jeremye, Y axe of thee a word; hide thou not ony thing fro me.
14 Então o rei Zedequias mandou trazer o profeta Jeremias e o encontrou na terceira entrada do templo do Senhor. "Quero pedir de você uma palavra", disse o rei. "Não me esconda nada. "
15 Forsothe Jeremye seide to Sedechie, If Y telle to thee, whether thou schalt not sle me? And if Y yyue councel to thee, thou schalt not here me.
15 Jeremias disse a Zedequias: "Se eu te der uma resposta, não me matarás? Mesmo que eu te desse conselho, tu não me escutarias".
16 Therfor Sedechie the king swoor to Jeremye priueli, and seide, The Lord lyueth, that maad to vs this soule, Y schal not sle thee, and Y schal not bitake thee in to the hondis of these men, that seken thi lijf.
16 O rei Zedequias, porém, fez este juramento secreto a Jeremias: "Juro pelo nome do Senhor, de quem recebemos a vida, eu não o matarei nem o entregarei nas mãos daqueles que desejam tirar-lhe a vida".
17 And Jeremye seide to Sedechie, The Lord of oostis, God of Israel, seith these thingis, If thou goest forth, and goest out to the princes of the kyng of Babiloyne, thi soule schal lyue, and this citee schal not be brent with fier, and thou schalt be saaf, thou and thin hous.
17 Então Jeremias disse a Zedequias: "Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: ‘Se te renderes imediatamente aos oficiais do rei da Babilônia, tua vida será poupada e esta cidade não será incendiada; tu e a tua família viverão.
18 Forsothe if thou goest not out to the princes of the kyng of Babiloyne, this citee schal be bitakun in to the hondis of Caldeis; and thei schulen brenne it with fier, and thou schalt not ascape fro the hond of hem.
18 Mas, se não te renderes imediatamente aos oficiais do rei da Babilônia, esta cidade será entregue nas mãos dos babilônios, e eles a incendiarão; nem mesmo tu escaparás das mãos deles’ ".
19 And kyng Sedechie seide to Jeremye, Y am angwischid for the Jewis that fledden ouer to Caldeis, lest perauenture Y be bitakun in to the hondis of hem, and thei scorne me.
19 O rei Zedequias disse a Jeremias: "Tenho medo dos judeus que estão apoiando os babilônios, pois os babilônios poderão entregar-me nas mãos deles, e eles me maltratarão".
20 Forsothe Jeremye answeride, and seide to hym, Thei schulen not bitake thee; Y biseche, here thou the vois of the Lord, which Y schal speke to thee, and it schal be wel to thee, and thi soule schal lyue.
20 "Eles não o entregarão", Jeremias respondeu. "Obedeça ao Senhor fazendo o que eu lhe digo, para que estejas bem e a tua vida seja poupada.
21 That if thou wolt not go out, this is the word which the Lord schewide to me, Lo!
21 Mas se te recusares a render-se, foi isto que o Senhor me revelou:
22 alle the wymmen, that weren left in the hous of the kyng of Juda, schulen be led out to the princes of the kyng of Babiloyne; and tho wymmen schulen seie, Thi pesible men disseyueden thee, and hadden the maistrye ayens thee; thei drenchiden thee in filthe, and thi feet in slidirnesse, and yeden awei fro thee.
22 Todas as mulheres deixadas no palácio real de Judá serão levadas aos oficiais do rei da Babilônia. E elas lhe dirão: ‘Aqueles teus amigos de confiança te enganaram e prevaleceram sobre ti. Teus pés estão atolados na lama; teus amigos te abandonaram’. "
23 And alle thi wyues and thi sones schulen be led out to Caldeis, and thou schalt not ascape the hondis of hem; but thou schalt be bitakun in to the hondis of the kyng of Babiloyne, and he schal brenne this citee bi fier.
23 "Todas as tuas mulheres e os teus filhos serão levados aos babilônios. Tu mesmo não escaparás das mãos deles, mas serás capturado pelo rei da Babilônia; e esta cidade será incendiada. "
24 Therfore Sedechie seide to Jeremye, No man wite these wordis, and thou schalt not die.
24 Então Zedequias disse a Jeremias: "Se alguém souber dessa conversa, você morrerá.
25 Sotheli if the princes heren, that Y spak with thee, and comen to thee, and seien to thee, Schewe thou to vs what thou spakest with the kyng, hide thou not fro vs, and we schulen not sle thee; and what the kyng spak with thee,
25 Se os líderes ouvirem que eu conversei com você e vierem dizer-lhe: ‘Conte-nos o que você disse ao rei e o que o rei disse a você; não esconda nada de nós, se não nós o mataremos’,
26 thou schalt seie to hem, Knelyngli Y puttide forth my preiris bifore the kyng, that he schulde not comaunde me to be led ayen in to the hous of Jonathan, and Y schulde die there.
26 diga: ‘Fui suplicar ao rei que não me mandasse de volta à casa de Jônatas, para ali morrer’ ".
27 Therfor alle the princes camen to Jeremye, and axiden hym; and he spak to hem bi alle the wordis whiche the kyng hadde comaundid to hym, and thei ceessiden fro hym; for whi no thing was herd.
27 Quando os líderes vieram interrogar Jeremias, ele lhes disse tudo o que o rei tinha ordenado que dissesse. E eles não lhe perguntaram mais nada, pois ninguém tinha ouvido a conversa com o rei.
28 Therfor Jeremye dwellide in the porche of the prisoun, til to the dai wherynne Jerusalem was takun; and it was don, that Jerusalem schulde be takun.
28 E Jeremias permaneceu no pátio da guarda até o dia em que Jerusalém foi conquistada.
