1 Bifor the `feeste dai of pask Jhesus witynge, that his our is comun, that he passe fro this world to the fadir, whanne he hadde loued hise that weren in the world, in to the ende he louede hem.
1 Ora, antes da Festa da Páscoa, sabendo Jesus que era chegada a sua hora de passar deste mundo para o Pai, tendo amado os seus que estavam no mundo, amou-os até ao fim.
2 And whanne the souper was maad, whanne the deuel hadde put than in to the herte, that Judas of Symount Scarioth schulde bitraye hym,
2 Durante a ceia, tendo já o diabo posto no coração de Judas Iscariotes, filho de Simão, que traísse a Jesus,
3 he witynge that the fadir yaf alle thingis to hym in to hise hoondis, and that he wente out fro God,
3 sabendo este que o Pai tudo confiara às suas mãos, e que ele viera de Deus, e voltava para Deus,
4 and goith to God, he risith fro the souper, and doith of hise clothis; and whanne he hadde takun a lynun cloth, he girde hym.
4 levantou-se da ceia, tirou a vestimenta de cima e, tomando uma toalha, cingiu-se com ela.
5 And aftirward he putte watir in to a basyn, and biganne to waische the disciplis feet, and to wipe with the lynnen cloth, with which he was gird.
5 Depois, deitou água na bacia e passou a lavar os pés aos discípulos e a enxugar-lhos com a toalha com que estava cingido.
6 And so he cam to Symount Petre, and Petre seith to hym, Lord, waischist thou my feet?
6 Aproximou-se, pois, de Simão Pedro, e este lhe disse: Senhor, tu me lavas os pés a mim?
7 Jhesus answerde, and seide to hym, What Y do, thou wost not now; but thou schalt wite aftirward.
7 Respondeu-lhe Jesus: O que eu faço não o sabes agora; compreendê-lo-ás depois.
8 Petre seith to hym, Thou schalt neuere waische my feet. Jhesus answeride to hym, If Y schal not waische thee, thou schalt not haue part with me.
8 Disse-lhe Pedro: Nunca me lavarás os pés. Respondeu-lhe Jesus: Se eu não te lavar, não tens parte comigo.
9 Symount Petre seith to hym, Lord, not oneli my feet, but bothe the hoondis and the heed.
9 Então, Pedro lhe pediu: Senhor, não somente os pés, mas também as mãos e a cabeça.
10 Jhesus seide to hym, He that is waischun, hath no nede but that he waische the feet, but he is al clene; and ye ben clene, but not alle.
10 Declarou-lhe Jesus: Quem já se banhou não necessita de lavar senão os pés; quanto ao mais, está todo limpo. Ora, vós estais limpos, mas não todos.
11 For he wiste, who `was he that schulde bitraye hym; therfor he seide, Ye ben not alle clene.
11 Pois ele sabia quem era o traidor. Foi por isso que disse: Nem todos estais limpos.
12 And so aftir that he hadde waischun `the feet of hem, he took hise clothis; and whanne he was set to mete ayen, eft he seide to hem, Ye witen what Y haue don to you.
12 Depois de lhes ter lavado os pés, tomou as vestes e, voltando à mesa, perguntou-lhes: Compreendeis o que vos fiz?
13 Ye clepen me maistir and lord, and ye seien wel; for Y am.
13 Vós me chamais o Mestre e o Senhor e dizeis bem; porque eu o sou.
14 Therfor if Y, lord and maistir, haue waischun youre feet, and ye schulen waische oon anothers feet;
14 Ora, se eu, sendo o Senhor e o Mestre, vos lavei os pés, também vós deveis lavar os pés uns dos outros.
15 for Y haue youun `ensaumple to you, `that as I haue do to you, so do ye.
15 Porque eu vos dei o exemplo, para que, como eu vos fiz, façais vós também.
16 Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, the seruaunt is not grettere than his lord, nether an apostle is grettere than he that sente hym.
16 Em verdade, em verdade vos digo que o servo não é maior do que seu senhor, nem o enviado, maior do que aquele que o enviou.
17 If ye witen these thingis, ye schulen be blessid, if ye doen hem.
17 Ora, se sabeis estas coisas, bem-aventurados sois se as praticardes.
18 Y seie not of `alle you, Y woot whiche Y haue chosun; but that the scripture be fulfillid, He that etith my breed, schal reise his heele ayens me.
18 Não falo a respeito de todos vós, pois eu conheço aqueles que escolhi; é, antes, para que se cumpra a Escritura:
19 Treuly, Y seie to you bifor it be don, that whanne it is don, ye bileue that Y am.
19 Desde já vos digo, antes que aconteça, para que, quando acontecer, creiais que
20 Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, he that takith whom euere Y schal sende, resseyueth me; and he that resseyueth me, resseyueth hym that sente me.
20 Em verdade, em verdade vos digo: quem recebe aquele que eu enviar, a mim me recebe; e quem me recebe recebe aquele que me enviou.
21 Whanne Jhesus hadde seid these thingis, he was troblid in spirit, and witnesside, and seide, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, that oon of you schal bitraye me.
21 Ditas estas coisas, angustiou-se Jesus em espírito e afirmou: Em verdade, em verdade vos digo que um dentre vós me trairá.
22 Therfor the disciplis lokiden togidere, doutynge of whom he seide.
22 Então, os discípulos olharam uns para os outros, sem saber a quem ele se referia.
23 And so oon of hise disciplis was restynge in the bosum of Jhesu, whom Jhesu louede.
23 Ora, ali estava conchegado a Jesus um dos seus discípulos, aquele a quem ele amava;
24 Therfor Symount Petre bikeneth to hym, `and seith to hym, Who is it, of whom he seith?
24 a esse fez Simão Pedro sinal, dizendo-lhe: Pergunta a quem ele se refere.
25 And so whanne he hadde restid ayen on the brest of Jhesu, he seith to hym, Lord, who is it?
25 Então, aquele discípulo, reclinando-se sobre o peito de Jesus, perguntou-lhe: Senhor, quem é?
26 Jhesus answerde, He it is, to whom Y schal areche a sop of breed. And whanne he hadde wet breed, he yaf to Judas of Symount Scarioth.
26 Respondeu Jesus: É aquele a quem eu der o pedaço de pão molhado. Tomou, pois, um pedaço de pão e, tendo-o molhado, deu-o a Judas, filho de Simão Iscariotes.
27 And aftir the mussel, thanne Sathanas entride in to hym. And Jhesus seith to hym, That thing that thou doist, do thou swithe.
27 E, após o bocado, imediatamente, entrou nele Satanás. Então, disse Jesus: O que pretendes fazer, faze-o depressa.
28 And noon of hem that saten at the mete wiste, wherto he seide to hym.
28 Nenhum, porém, dos que estavam à mesa percebeu a que fim lhe dissera isto.
29 For summe gessiden, for Judas hadde pursis, that Jhesus hadde seid to hym, Bie thou tho thingis, that ben nedeful to vs to the feeste dai, or that he schulde yyue sum thing to nedi men.
29 Pois, como Judas era quem trazia a bolsa, pensaram alguns que Jesus lhe dissera: Compra o que precisamos para a festa ou lhe ordenara que desse alguma coisa aos pobres.
30 Therfor whanne he hadde takun the mussel, he wente out anoon; and it was nyyt.
30 Ele, tendo recebido o bocado, saiu logo. E era noite.
31 And whanne he was gon out, Jhesus seide, Now mannus sone is clarified, and God is clarified in hym.
31 Quando ele saiu, disse Jesus: Agora, foi glorificado o Filho do Homem, e Deus foi glorificado nele;
32 If God is clarified in hym, God schal clarifie hym in hym silf, and anoon he schal clarifie hym.
32 se Deus foi glorificado nele, também Deus o glorificará nele mesmo; e glorificá-lo-á imediatamente.
33 Litle sones, yit a litil Y am with you; ye schulen seke me, and, as Y seide to the Jewis, Whidur Y go, ye moun not come; and to you Y seie now.
33 Filhinhos, ainda por um pouco estou convosco; buscar-me-eis, e o que eu disse aos judeus também agora vos digo a vós outros: para onde eu vou, vós não podeis ir.
34 Y yyue to you a newe maundement, that ye loue togidir, as Y louede you, `and that ye loue togidir.
34 Novo mandamento vos dou: que vos ameis uns aos outros; assim como eu vos amei, que também vos ameis uns aos outros.
35 In this thing alle men schulen knowe, that ye ben my disciplis, if ye han loue togidere.
35 Nisto conhecerão todos que sois meus discípulos: se tiverdes amor uns aos outros.
36 Symount Petre seith to hym, Lord, whidur goist thou? Jhesus answeride, Whidur Y go, thou mayst not sue me now, but thou schalt sue afterward.
36 Perguntou-lhe Simão Pedro: Senhor, para onde vais? Respondeu Jesus: Para onde vou, não me podes seguir agora; mais tarde, porém, me seguirás.
37 Petre seith to hym, Whi may Y not sue thee now? Y schal putte my lijf for thee.
37 Replicou Pedro: Senhor, por que não posso seguir-te agora? Por ti darei a própria vida.
38 Jhesus answeride, Thou schalt putte thi lijf for me? Treuli, treuli, Y seie to thee, the cok schal not crowe, til thou schalt denye me thries. And he seith to hise disciplis.
38 Respondeu Jesus: Darás a vida por mim? Em verdade, em verdade te digo que jamais cantará o galo antes que me negues três vezes.
